When they arrived the Capital, the Crown Prince sent Zhao Xing back to the manor in another carriage and left straight for the palace. For most of the time during their journey, because of her injury she felt very uncomfortable and would even catch a fever that would often delay them, she was relieved when they finally reached the manor, and was very happy to see her two maids she had left for almost three months.
Zhao Xing was in a good mood just seeing them, she grinned from ear to ear. It had indeed been a while, she didn't realize that she had missed this place so much until she saw the manor on their way here, until she walked through the gates and saw the guards that greeted her, the familiar courtyards, the gardens, the pavilion she used to seat and tell her maids stories.
The uneasiness she was feeling during the journey had dissipated, she suddenly felt safe and unrestrained.
The Crown Prince went to report to the Emperor, after the discussion Zhang Zhengyang mentioned he had been attacked by a gang of bandits and had been saved by a young brave girl.
He also told his Imperial Father how this young girl was his savior and he had brought her back to the capital, and was going to repay her for the lifesaving grace.
The Emperor acquiesced with this and asked that she should be summoned to the palace when she had completed her treatment.
As the Crown Prince left the palace, both he and Xiao Chen got into discussing.
"So, Master wants Grand Tutor to make a name for herself?" Xiao Chen asked.
Zhang Zhengyang nodded. It wasn't enough to keep her safe if Zhao Xing lived in the Crown Prince's manor. She could end up being crushed no matter how careful he was.
"Master…considering Grand Tutor's personality, will she be able to stand?" Zhao Xing was playful, and sometimes very silly, in addition to all these she didn't know how things worked in this world, she was mostly clueless, he was worried she would make a mistake, while being under watchful eyes and get into trouble.
"No worries, she still has me, she won't fall so easily. If I continue to keep her like this, then it would be more dangerous." Those who stood under the limelight still had the opportunity to choose to be careful and have a way out, but those at the sidelines were considered small fries that didn't have a life of their own, if someone wanted to get rid of them, they wouldn't even need a reason to do so. So whether they watched their steps and tried to avoid mistakes, they couldn't control their fate if something bad were to befall them.
Xiao Chen didn't ask further, he nodded in understanding.
Zhang Zhengyang went into deep thinking. The last time, when he had taken Zhao Xing to the teahouse they had crossed paths with his fourth brother. He knew his brother well. He could only be extra careful, because that day, the Fourth Prince had placed his eyes on Zhao Xing. Though Zhao Xing had disguised herself, his brother was a very suspicious person, he wouldn't let it go if he smelled something fishy, it still wasn't safe, prevention was better than cure. Zhao Xing's role was very crucial to his plan. Among his people, she was the one who deserved the most protection, before this he had thought of other ways to project her but still couldn't find a suitable role for her to occupy. Fortunately, a golden opportunity was presented to him the day Zhao Xing saved his life, though it was by accident, there wasn't much of a difference. Now that he had told his Imperial Father about this matter, he was sure the Emperor was going to blow this matter just to dispel gossips concerning his bias towards his fourth brother.
"Ah, Yes what about the poison master?" He asked.
"Reporting to master, the poison master has been sent to the courtyard at Lively Street." Xiao Chen quickly responded.
Zhang Zhengyang nodded.
"Later this prince has to go see him."
Xiao Chen nodded. "Yes."
Back at the manor Zhao Xing was oblivious to what the Prince was planning. She was currently enjoying the attention she had long longed for.
Her maids were already very happy to see her, and were surprised when they learned she had been injured.
Though had to stay in bed for a few days because her body was weak from the travel, she felt excited, especially because she got to show Lan'er and Nuo Nuo the things she got them.
"Grand Tutor…we can't accept this…" They said. Zhao Xing had gotten them so many pretty things they felt too guilty to own.
"How can you say that? I carefully selected these for you two. I know Nuo Nuo liked plain colored clothes, and Lan'er you liked bright beautiful colored clothes, so I got them for you, oh and the jewelry too, I took into account all your likes and dislikes, if you don't take them who would?" She was puzzled, so many pretty things she got to dress up her little cute doll like maids and now they wanted to refuse her goodwill?
The two girls didn't know what to say and kept quiet.
Zhao Xing remembered that they were after all the Crown Prince's people, it was inappropriate to receive gifts so easily. She sighed, it wasn't fair, they serve her every day, and not the Crown Prince. There was nothing wrong with receiving gifts from her.
"See the Crown Prince as high and mighty and rich as he is even collected this one's gift, yet you two want to refuse, I even told the prince that I got you gifts, and he had nothing to say about it, if you two insist on refusing…" She didn't continue, but the girls understood, and quickly agreed to take the gifts.
"Thank you, Grand Tutor." They both said with a smile on their faces, they were touched that their mistress remembered what their likes and dislikes were, and were thankful she was so kind to them. In their hearts, they somehow began to favor her over their real master.
"Ok, now it's time to try the clothes on." She got it for them, of course they had to wear it and show it to her. She needed to see the fruit of her labor.
'This is going to be interesting…'
