Zhang Zhengyang kept silent.
Zhao Xing saw he looked puzzled and went further to explain, "These days you miss home, don't you?"
Zhang Zhengyang: "…"
"Don't worry, even if we die, we'll die together, I got your back."
Zhang Zhengyang chuckled. Zhao Xing thought he was so incompetent he couldn't even fight against his brother. But what she didn't know was that if his brother could easily kill him, then there was no need to carry out his plans in the first place.
But he didn't explain, it wasn't bad to get so much attention from her anyway.
After that day, Zhao Xing no longer ignored the Crown Prince, and became more enthusiastic whenever he spoke with her. For her this was all she could do for him, now that her future predicting ability seemed to be dormant.
Zhang Zhengyang didn't mind that Zhao Xing misunderstood, and continued to play along with her.
They had spent over a month here, and everything went smoothly, they might be able to return to the capital in a few weeks. Time had gone by so quick Zhao Xing couldn't believe it.
As their departure drew nearer, Zhang Zhengyang spent less and less time with her. Zhao Xing had long succumbed to her fate. She was currently powerless, and even had to rely on the person she was to protect. So if she ended up dying before she reached the capital, then she only hoped her friends and family would forget about her existence so they won't be sad. There was another possibility though; if she dies in this world she might be able to return to her world and her life would be back to normal. But how would she know exactly what would happen.
The other officials as well as the Crown Prince decided that they would be leaving separately just as when they came.
The town would throw a party to send them off, but Zhang Zhengyang was in a hurry to leave, and missed it, much to Zhao Xing's dismay.
She could only console herself with the Mayor's three sons that had somewhat taking a liking to her, she gave them all gifts from what she brought back from Little Merchant Valley.
Others left earlier, and some later. The Crown Prince was one of the last to leave.
"Are you scared?" The carriages had been prepared, and Zhao Xing sat in one of them, opposite the Crown Prince. Xiao Chen didn't join them like before. Zhao Xing had asked, but the prince didn't tell her where he went.
She remained silent, then closed her eyes, feeling calm.
The prince saw this expression, and suddenly felt something was wrong, "Are you alright?"
She shook her head, "I'm preparing my mind, emptying my heart."
Zhang Zhengyang: "…"
Zhao Xing didn't explain. In short she was preparing for her death. She had to empty her mind so she dies without regrets and doesn't become a wandering ghost.
Zhang Zhengyang didn't ask more, but still comforted, "Don't worry, this prince knows what to do."
Zhao Xing opened her eyes, it was the first time he said something so clearly about his plan to counter attack.
But from his expression, it didn't seem like he was going to disclose anything more. She pursed her lips and closed her eyes, deciding it would be better to sleep, than think of what was to come.
The carriage took off. And Zhao Xing's heart skipped a beat. How was she going to sleep, now?
"We don't know exactly when the other party is going to attack, so when the time comes, you stay put, don't leave the carriage, unless I ask you to." He continued.
"See that?" He pointed to where she sat. "If you open it there's a compartment inside. If anything happens, hide in there and don't come out."
Zhao Xing: "…?" She stood up and tried to find this compartment he spoke of. "Wow, Zhang Zhengyang you really are prepared…"
'He actually wants me to save myself and leave him alone?'
She turned to him, "You really want to send me away, and die instead, what a hero."
Her words confused him.
Zhao Xing sat back down, "Do you realize I haven't gone bak to my world all this time?"
Zhang Zhengyang kept silent, seeing this Zhao Xing continued, "This would mean that there's something holding me back, not allowing me to return to where I came from." She paused again, "Don't you think it's because of you?" She really thought he was really silly, how could she go and leave him alone? If she left him alone and she was safe and something happened to him, what would become of her?
"Zhang Zhengyang, I have no idea what's going through your mind right now, but our lives are as good as bound together. Have you ever thought of what would happen to me if you died? Should I roam this world alone, with no way to return?"
"Nothing will happen to me, do I have to tell you that your presence would only draw us back, before you understand?"
Zhao Xing was speechless. She didn't know whether it was from his confidence or because he just told her that she was a drawback.
"Just be good and do what I say. Then nothing bad will happen. You're ignorant, accept it and stop trying to act smart."
Zhao Xing's jaw dropped.
"You…"
Zhang Zhengyang had said what he wanted to say. He was sure that after this Zhao Xing would stop nagging and fretting. He closed his eyes and leaned his back on the seat.
Zhao Xing It was fine when this guy was gentle, and would just ask her about things, but when he talked like this it made her really wish to join the enemy and have him get killed. The worst thing was that what he said was right.
Zhao Xing scoffed.
'Just hope what I saw doesn't happen in the end, because if it does, this one will really escape and leave you alone to be eaten by beasts in the wild!'
She looked at his face that didn't seem to be that of one that awaited their death, and scolded him a few more times in her head, before she was satisfied.
