"Ah..!" She cried softly. She had woken up too briskly just now, her neck hurt a little. She robbed it as she tried to recall how she arrived her room.
These where the times she really missed her maids. She suddenly really wanted to return to the Crown Prince manor.
Just then someone barged into her room.
"Xiao Qi?" She almost forgot it was her since she was still wearing her disguise.
Xiao Qi's face wasn't looking good at all. Zhao Xing was used to her constant foul mood, so she didn't say anything about it.
"Come take your medicine, before you expose yourself." She held a bowl in her hand, and walked up to her.
Zhao Xing looked behind her, cautiously. "Where's Zhang Zhengyang?" She had just returned and she had yet to meet him, but of course she didn't want to meet him now that she had to take her medicine.
Xiao Qi suppressed the anger welling up from within, and answered, "The Crown Prince was up early, he want out with the Mayor and some other officials. They have yet to return."
"Then what about Xiao Chen?" It would be best if none of them were here.
Xiao Qi sighed, showing a rare tolerance and answered, "The only ones in this house are the Mayor's wife and children, no one else, now can you take your medicine before it gets cold?" If it had been before, Xiao Qi would have already started an argument, complaining about the many questions she asked.
Zhao Xing took another look at her, then at the bowl, "Xiao Qi ah, you didn't poison this bowl did you?"
The sudden question puzzled Xiao Qi, but she scoffed, "If I wanted you dead, I'll just give you bitter water every day, no remedy, this way you'll suffer until you eventually die, I won't let you have such an easy death."
Zhao Xing's backed off when she heard this, she looked differently at the black liquid in the bowl. "If so, then I'd rather not drink it, if not I'll be drinking this bitter thing in vain…"
As she spoke Xiao Qi brought the bowl to her mouth, forcing her to drink it.
"Mmh!?"
"Speaking so much nonsense, won't you drink? Do you think everyone's as idle as you are?"
"Xiao Qi are you crazy?" Zhao Xing pushed the bowl away from her lips, her face squeezed because of the bitterness. She felt wronged! She wasn't ready yet.
Xiao Qi handed the bowl to her and walked away. "I'll be leaving soon, the Crown Prince has sent me on another mission."
"Ah? Then what about me?" She admits that Xiao Qi was a handful but she was still a girl, and so she felt really comfortable with her around, much more than with all the men around. In addition to that, she was dressed as a man, and so the people that got close to her here were mostly men.
"What does that have to do with me?" Xiao Qi replied without a care.
"Sigh, never mind." It wasn't like this block of wood would understand even if she explained.
"It would be very hard to hide your poisoning from the Crown Prince if you don't know." She said when she reached the door.
"The drug prescription is with me, and though the herbs are common, you would still need the Crown Prince's consent even if you wanted to get them." What she didn't add was that the Crown Prince was easily suspicious, it wasn't at all easy to hide things from him no matter how hard you tried.
"Aiya" Zhao Xing also knew this. But she really had to hide it from him.
She still remembers the time she had asked him if she could follow him to the south, he had bluntly refused, saying it was too dangerous for her, if she hadn't insisted, she wouldn't be here. Now that she had been poisoned, if he found out, he'd probably make her go separately from him. If anything were to happen to him if he made such a decision, then what would she do?
"Sigh, how good it would be to have a loyal companion that would stay by your side at all times." She envied the Crown Prince. Apart from Xiao Chen, he had hundreds and hundreds of people who feared and looked up to him. Even if only a few of them were sincere, it was still better than having no one at all.
Well it didn't matter, she had her ways. "Don't worry, I'll do the brewing myself."
Xiao Qi who was about leaving turned her head to look at her as if she had lost it.
"What?" Zhao Xing asked.
"Just ask the Madam to help you, don't go ruining the medicine. If the Master asks, tell him it's just a remedy for a simple ailment, for now that's all you can do."
Zhao Xing also thought this was the only way. The family members of the Mayor were humble and simple. If she told them some random lie, they wouldn't ask too much about it.
She didn't know what the Crown Prince had done, and no one mentioned much about her absence these past 2 weeks. That day she didn't do much. She was really an idle person like Xiao Qi had said.
The Crown Prince wasn't there and she hadn't many people to talk with. The Mayor's Wife was busy working but she didn't know how to offer help. She thought it would be better if she locked herself up in her room. She wouldn't have had breakfast if not for the madam of the house, that kindly invited her. They had only spoken a little with each other during breakfast. Zhao Xing proposed to help her prepare lunch or help out at least in any way she could, but the Madam declined and asked her to rest. She would have played with the children but they were outside playing with their mates.
And so she was left with nothing to do. Even if she wanted to help or do anything she was a bit worried about exposing herself in any way. Especially the fact she was poisoned.
She wondered when the Crown Prince would return. She was dying of boredom. She didn't dare go out. Here she was being watched, she wasn't as free as when she was in Little Merchant Valley.
