"I only just came back to the capital a few days ago, didn't expect to meet Second brother here."
How could Zhang Zhengyang not know? After that incident his father gave more privilege to his Fourth Brother, the trust he had fought years to build, someone came out of nowhere to destroy it.
Zhao Xing couldn't help but stare at the fourth prince, the air around him seemed to be in a constant frozen state but there his expression looked calm and laid back, it was such a contrasting feeling that Zhao Xing shivered. 'This man was really frightening!'
The Fourth Prince sensed her stare but acted oblivious, he continued chatting with the Crown Prince "I heard that during the few months I was away Second brother had made a lot of contributions, as to be expected of the Crown Prince." Said the fourth prince, smiling brightly but it only made people feel uncomfortable.
"Assisting Imperial Father is my duty, I deserve no credit." Retorted the Crown Prince, Zhao Xing could hear the slight annoyance in his tone.
The fourth prince laughed, his expression was that of a victor. "Second Brother is right, it's our duty, we must serve Imperial Father well."
Zhang Zhengyang clenched his fist under his sleeve. "I still have things to attend to, so I'll be on my way." He said as he walked passed him.
"Eh? Second brother you didn't introduce your friend to me, here I was thinking that you'd only ever carry Xiao Chen around."
His words made Zhang Zhengyang halt his steps. "Just a servant, needs no introduction. Your little follower didn't come with you today?" with that he gestured for the two behind him to follow, and they left.
The Fourth Prince watched them leave with a smirk, there was a glint in his eyes, one could only guess what he was up to. But from the looks of it, it wouldn't be anything good.
When they left the tea house, Zhao Xing couldn't bear to go home, but she also didn't dare ask the Crown Prince if they could walk around for a bit, given his current expression. It seemed meeting the fourth Prince here wasn't part of his plans.
As they boarded the carriage Zhao Xing looked back outside, with longing eyes before entering the carriage.
Zhang Zhengyang who already sat in the carriage saw her sulking and smiled. "We'll be coming out more in the future, no need to put on such a face."
Nani? Zhao Xing turned to him, where was the person with the frightening expression just now that read 'I'm pissed, don't talk, don't breathe, or else'? This guy was becoming weirder and weirder.
She sat down opposite the Crown Prince, then looked out the window, this was going to become a habit of hers for a very long time to come. As her eyes wandered around she noticed the bustling streets filled with all kinds of people, either selling, buying, working, or just walking, then...
"Eh?" She saw a figure wearing a weird mask that almost covered his entire face approaching the tea house. Though he wore a hood, his clothes didn't look that auspicious, but that mask gave people a lasting impression once they saw it.
She didn't see many people dressed like this on the street, so the sight really caught her attention, because he looked like a bad guy straight from a manhua.
Zhang Zhengyang saw her surprised expression, and also raised the curtain from his side to see. Zhao Xing saw he was curious and told him about what she saw. "There was a guy wearing a mask as well as a hood" she refrained from pointing, instead describing his position. The crown prince spotted him almost immediately. He turned to Xiao Chen who received the signal.
Zhao Xing watched as he raised the entrance curtains and looked out, she didn't know what he did, but when he was done he dropped the curtains and nodded at Zhang Zhengyang.
She didn't have any idea what they had just silently communicated with each other, but the Crown Prince remained silent and didn't explain anything. Since he didn't explain, then she wouldn't ask.
The road back home was silent.
When they arrived home this time, the prince wasn't in a good mood but he still asked Zhao Xing to come to his study where he gave her a pile of documents. "Go through these profiles, see what you can get from there."
"Ha?" Zhao Xing held the documents in her arms staring with widened eyes at the crown prince. "Tell me if you see anything weird about them."
Anything weird? She saw something weird already: what was happening right now. "All of them?" She asked.
The crown prince raised a brow, answering her question with silence, he then proceeded to say, "Don't worry about the poison master, sooner or later we'll have news of him if he's still alive. I'll be taking over this task from now on." He said as he sat at his table.
Since he had put it this way Zhao Xing didn't know if she had the right to complain anymore.
"Then...then I'll take a look at them." She said this but inside she was crying. She was a student! Who had time to look at all this? Did he think she could do magic?
"Then I'll take my leave." But before she could do so, the crown prince called out to her once more.
"I'd appreciate it if Grand Tutor could memorize it as well."
Zhao Xing almost fainted on the spot. Memorize? She turned around to face him, "Zhang Zhengyang I'm in highschool, don't you think the things I have to cram are enough for me?"
Zhang Zhengyang stared straight at her, he wasn't curious about whatever it was she was spouting. But a threatening smile hung on his lips. Zhao Xing could only sigh and walk away.
He was mad, now it's my fault he even threatened me with his eyes! She didn't ask the Fourth Prince to come-she did ask him to take her out, but who asked him to go to that particular tea house? She was sure she wasn't the one. Did following him out to have fun come with such price? She should refrain herself from going out next time.
Zhang Zhengyang was soon summoned to the palace. He didn't even have time to rest, and he was off again. He was in a rush and only took Xiao Chen along with him. Although the thought of going to the palace was fun, Zhao Xing felt she had too much on her plate to have fun, so she didn't mind that she was left behind.
"Grand tutor, how was your outing today?" Her maids came around her like bees to pollen. With a hurd of questions. "How did people see you?", "Did they found out you were a girl?"
"Heavens!" She sighed as she dropped the many documents on her table, her hands were already sore from carrying them all the way. She took a stool and sat down. "I'm tired. I won't answer."
Their questions reminded her that because of her excitement she had forgotten about what she was wearing. She suddenly wondered if she had given herself away.
