Emily knew that they'd have to talk about the pending issue at hand. He had gotten a fever the last time so she had laid off. There was no more fever. He'd be back from school soon and they were going to have the talk. Soon they'd be going to family court and it was better she briefed him on what was going to happen.
He had told her once that he loved macaroni and cheese. If she made it for him he might think something was going to happen. That she was trying to butter him up before she dropped the bad news on him. A normal parent's tactic. She hoped.
The door opened and she watched him walk in. Toeing his shoes off and changing to his slippers. His face was neutral. His shoulders tired from the long day. It would take some getting used to. His new look. Without the hair. She was happy that he wanted to express himself and got his own style, but she missed the former hair.
