Chương 73: Springfield High ... and a surprise

It turns out, the ability to read and rewrite the mind is indeed a very useful ability in learning languages.

Barely a week into her English classes, Divya had mastered the language enough to hold basic conversations with the natives. Although it came with the embarrassment of having to hold your English teacher's wrist for the entire duration of the class - Divya was quickly able to learn the language by connecting her teacher's thoughts with the words she was speaking, gaining a clear understanding of whatever was being taught to her.

And considering the fact that high school started tomorrow, this was great news. Another piece of good news was that the house was fully repaired from Alaukik's destruction now, and looked exactly as it did when they walked in - minus the cameras and microphones.

Well, Alaukik did have to calm down a horrified Divya who thought another fight happened and she slept right through it, but apart from that everything was going good.

Staring outside the window in the living room, Alaukik sensed the trees lining their street.

'I'm guessing there should be yellowed leaves on them…'

'And you would be able to see them if only-'

'It's already been a week since we came here, and school starts tomorrow..' he thought, gazing at the digital clock that said

 16:04:33

 xxo 7/31.

Letting out a laugh, Alaukik thought,

'Or at least that's what I think it says.'

'Why limit yourself to imagination when the key to using your eyes is right inside your mind?'

'Anyways, who would've thought I would have to go back to school? Fortunately, I already know all the courses, so it shouldn't really be a problem for me. I just hope I don't meet her, I already have enough on my plate - ' he thought, turning his head upwards, sensing the girl who was talking to Asha on the phone. ' - if I have to deal with a soldier who has mental health issues, I won't be able to rest at all.'

'Well, let's just hope I get normal classmates, people who are living a happy life with nothing to worry about.'

-----

Early in the morning, if one were to look at a particular house on HouseMade street in Springfield, you could see two figures slowly leaving their house, making their way to the nearby bus stop. If you were to look closer, you could see the female figure continuously talking to someone on the phone, while the male simply walked ahead in silence with two bags on his shoulder.

Suddenly, the male quickly turned around and snatched the phone from the female's hand, bringing it to his own ear and speaking into it,

"Aunty, I know you're worried, but please for god's sake calm down! We're not going to war, just school! And I'm going to be by her side anyways, so don't worry so much!"

"No, I know you're worried about the both of us going to school in a completely different country, but this is too much! You've called us at least 15 times since yesterday, and over a 100 times this week! Relax aunty! I'll make sure that everything goes fine."

"Yes, yes, I'll make some new friends, and I'll help Divya make some new friends as well. And yes, I promise not to do anything stupid, so relax!"

"Fine, good night aunty."

Handing the phone back to Divya without turning back, Alaukik sighed and spoke,

"Next time she calls, you should tell her that you're busy. Otherwise she'll keep going on and on about safety and developing new relations and stuff. Okay?"

Whispering, Divya replied,

"But she's doing it for us…"

"I also know she's doing it for us, but there's a limit to everything! She's too worried about us, so much so that she's not even thinking straight! Well, once we get through our first day, she should calm down. So for now let's focus on reaching the school and getting all the paperwork done."

Saying so, Alaukik took off one of the bags around his shoulder and handed it to Divya,

"Here you go, your bag. It has everything you might need, so it would be best to keep it with you."

And with that, Alaukik quickly started making his way to the bus stop, not wanting to miss the 6:30 bus that would drop them off at their school by 7:00, giving them barely an hour to deal with the required things before classes started.

----

Alaukik was currently thinking of where the twins could possibly be - he knew that their trail disappeared somewhere in the north - east of USNA, which was why he even transferred specifically to this school - a high school for training young mages in basic knowledge to prepare them for their higher education in universities.

This high school … Springfield High School is affiliated with MIT, one of the best colleges in USNA. It was what Asha chose for us - she wouldn't agree to send us to any other school claiming that she wanted us to study in the best school possible, even if it is in the USNA.

Smirking his head, Alaukik thought,

'It's surprising that MIT survived WW3. Although its position in the education world dropped a bit, it's still one of the best universities in the world. And who would've thought I would attend MIT in another world? One would think that transmigrators would get to attend something like 'The Academy of the Sun' or some cringy stuff like that.'

"Mr.Chandrashekar?"

'Anyways, I guess mother would be proud of me, although she can't see me here anyways… It's fine, they've probably adjusted to my loss by now. It's not like I can go back anyways, so there's not any point in thinking about it … Although I miss them a lot sometimes - but at least I have Asha here right? She's quite nice to m-'

"MR.CHANDRASHEKAR?"

Snapping his head, Alaukik gazed at the lady who was screaming his name, and to Divya whose hand had reached halfway to his shoulder, before quickly replying,

"Oh, I'm really sorry Ms. Dahr, I got lost for a second. What were you saying again?"

Sighing, Ms. Dahr, the lady in front of the duo spoke,

"I was saying that all of your paperwork is done, and you are free to go to your homeroom. It's room number G19, left from the main hallway of the school. Also please remember that if you ever face a problem, your counsellor," she said, pointing to herself, "is always here for you. Your schedule has been sent to your emails, so you can check them out there. And finally, I wish you a happy first day here at Springfield high!"

"Thank you Ms. Dahr," replied Alaukik, giving a slight smile and standing up from his chair. Gesturing to Divya, he once again gave Ms. Dahr a smile before leaving her room and making his way towards his homeroom.

Seeing his leave, Ms. Dahr let out a frown and thought,

'Have I really become that boring? Is my age finally catching up to me?'

------

Making his way down the hallway, Alaukik once again felt the pain of not being able to use his eyes, even though they were right there with him. Turning to Divya, he said,

"Could you find room G19? I can't really differentiate between these rooms…"

Knowing his condition, Divya nodded and slowly made her way ahead of Alaukik, all the while keeping her head down. Standing in front of him, Divya grabbed his sleeve and started to walk forwards.

"No- I can walk on my own I just don-"

Suddenly, Alaukik stopped in the middle of his explanation, as he noticed something wrong with Divya - she was stumbling in her steps, and also shivering slightly. It was very slight, but with his senses he could notice the smallest movement people made.

'Is she nervous? Is that why she isn't even holding her head up?' sighing, Alaukik continued,

'This was what I was worried about! She hasn't adapted to life in the Federation itself, how is she supposed to attend school in another country?! A country filled with a different culture and people! I guess it wasn't apparent when we were in the house since it was just us two, but now that she is surrounded by new people, the reality has finally set in.'

Sighing, Alaukik took a few steps to catch up with Divya, before patting her on the shoulder and saying,

"Relax, I'm right here beside you."

-------

With her head bent down, Divya couldn't really make out much of what was around her, and she liked that.

When they had first left their house in the morning, she was feeling fine, but when they got in that bus filled with unknown people, Divya slowly started to realise where she really was. And the final blow was walking into the school, and looking at all the multicoloured heads walking inside with her and Alaukik.

In just the one second she had looked around, she was sure she had seen a blonde, a blue, a red and even a green coloured head! Add that to their pale white skin tone, and all of them looked like aliens to Divya!

Well, one couldn't blame her either, considering all her life she had lived in the Federation, and was never even exposed to pictures of foreigners. The most she'd heard was that there existed places outside of the Federation, but to her who simply wanted to live another day, information like that was of no use.

Thus, during the entire time with their counsellor, Divya simply kept her head down and nodded along, barely able to keep up with the string of words coming out of the counsellor. And when they started making their way to their homeroom, she made sure to hide herself behind Alaukik, and simply focus on the floor below her.

And yet, when Alaukik asked her to guide him, she immediately agreed, thinking that she could at least help him in this way. It was only when she stood in front of him that she realised what 'guiding' exactly meant.

'I - I need to look around to see which one is room G19…'

Clutching her stomach with one hand, Divya suddenly felt nauseous, and started stumbling with her feet. Instinctively, she grabbed Alaukik's sleeve, hoping it would provide a sense of balance to her.

'Pathetic…' she thought to herself,

'I can't even do something as simple as guide him…'

And as she was slowly drowning in her own mind, she felt a pat on her shoulder,

"I'm always here for you."

Hearing that, Divya suddenly stopped in her tracks. Turning towards Alaukik, Divya managed to let out a weak smile and replied,

"Thank you.."

'I'm so pathetic, I need help with even the simplest things in life…'

Shaking her head, Divya decided to snap out of her pessimism and thought,

'It's fine! That's why I decided to attend school in the first place! It's said that you can learn everything you need in life from a school, so I have to make sure that I focus and become stronger here! Only by growing stronger can I stop being a burden and become helpful to the people around me!'

--------

Thankfully, the duo were able to make their way to the classroom with no major problems. Theirs was a typical classroom, with desks arranged in rows, a total of 8 desks each row and 4 rows in total.

Considering it was the first day of high school, and that all the children here were freshman, everyone was excitedly discussing, and surprisingly had already formed groups around the room. Not interested in any of that, Alaukik slowly made his way to the back of the classroom where he took a seat, with Divya simply following behind him. Getting comfortable in his seat, Alaukik placed his head down onto the desk, pretending to fall asleep since he didn't want anyone to disturb him. Well, it's not like anyone would've approached him, they were all busy catching up with their friends anyways.

Barely a minute later, the homeroom teacher walked in. Placing her bag onto the dias, she took her place in front of the speaker's podium and clapped her hands to get everyone's attention,

"Good morning guys. I'm sure all of you are excited for your first year in high school, but calm down for now. I'll be taking attendance, and I need silence for that okay? For now, let's do my basic introductions, and you guys can get to know each other during the break times. I'm Adrianna Mckenzie, but you guys can call me Ms. A k?"

Hearing her, the students slowly dispersed and took their own seats, although there was still a bit of whispering going around.

"Very well, then let us begin with attendance."

Hearing this, Alaukik perked up his ears and started paying attention around him, wanting to gain some information about his classmates.

"Larry Beckham?"

"Present!" came a shout from the last row.

"Divya Biswas?"

"Divya Biswas?"

Looking at Divya, Alaukik sighed, knowing that she was too nervous to answer the attendance. And so, he started to raise his hand intending to answer for her. To his surprise however, Divya suddenly raised her hand comically high and … that's it. She simply raised her hand, and stopped there. Letting out a small chuckle, Alaukik thought,

'Well, better than nothing I guess.'

Thankfully, the teacher was intelligent enough to react to her, and let out a small smile before moving on.

"Livia Chase?"

"Present Miss!"

"Alaukik Chandrashekar?"

"Present," said Alaukik, raising his hand to indicate his position.

"David Orlando?"

"Present!"

"Angelina Shields?"

"Yes! And just Lina will do Miss. A!"

Hearing this name, Alaukik suddenly went as stiff as a rock. Slowly turning his head around to where the voice came from, Alaukik saw a girl with twin tails sitting on her desk, looking at her watch. Suddenly, as if sensing his gaze, she turned around to look at him. Letting out a smile, Lina gave a small wave of her hand, before turning back to her watch.

'F*ck me everyway' thought Alaukik, letting out a groan, his expression crumbling into a mix of a grimace, a frown and simply sadness.

Of course, life didn't really care for Alaukik, and neither did anyone else. And so, the day went on as usual, with the only change being Alaukik's mood taking a massive turn for the worse.

A/N:

Helloooo guys~ Sorry for the delay, had three back to back exams since thursday, so here's a long chapter so celebrate my short release from the exams!

Although I have one on Tuesday again, and Thursday, and Tuesday again, and then Thursday and Friday again so yay...

Anyways, Lina has been introduced in, and I'm excited about what happens now~ Aren't you??

And also one of you wanted Lina to be coupled with Alaukik ... Uh, I don't know about that bro, I can't really see Alaukik in a romantic relationship right now, especially when he knows Lina's identity... If you other guys also want to see that ship, just comment here and depending on how many people want it Imma try - stress on try - my best to accommodate that adjustment.

Anyways, as always, thank you for reading and have a great day ahead!
