Chương 3: Be responsible
The old man didn't say anything. He simply swept his glance over the two before turning to face the kid in his lap. She was still staring eagerly for the answer with her innocent eyes. The two of them want the old man to forget that they are still playful.
His gaze softens when he sees the baby. His lips curled up and he said, " Ah Jie, It's not that they are liars and cheaters. They are just as playful as you. So don't take their words too seriously. Look grandpa brought you some fish for your Aquarium. Go collect it from Uncle Li."
Upon hearing that she is getting new fish for her Aquarium, she got excited. She jumped out of his lap and ran toward the other old man who entered holding a water bag in his hands. She was so eager to get the bag from him. But she knows she will not be able to hold it properly in her little dumpling hands. So, obediently followed him inside with her eyes fixed on the bag he was holding.
After confirming that she is gone, The smile on the old man's face faded and he turned his gaze toward the two. The woman was quick with her reaction. She grabbed a glass of juice that was untouched and stood to offer it to him.
"No need. Keep it there.", His stern voice came out. It didn't carry any warmth with it. It was so cold that it will freeze someone. She immediately placed the glass down and sat in her position. The man snorted. The old man drifted his sight towards him. He shrinks back. No one didn't dare to make any noise. Even breathing will land them in a difficult position. All the servants who are working know that they are done for today. So they immediately vacated the place leaving the family all alone.
After a long silence, as he still get any response, The old man lost his patience. But he still kept quiet. Seeing that he is losing his patience, The man started to talk.
"Grandpa, We... Me and Jie Xuan... We...", Before he could finish his sentence, the old man's voice roared.
"How old are you two?", The question startled them that they tottered in fear. They know that they are done for. Still, they have to find their voice to answer the question that was asked.
"Both... Both of us are 20.", The woman, Chen Jie Xuan answered in a low voice.
"Come again, I didn't hear you. Didn't your voice reach the sky a moment ago? Be louder.", He ordered.
Jie Xuan pressed her lips before opening her mouth again to say," We are going to be 21 this year."
The old man nodded and asked the next question, "How old is Ah Jie?"
"3... Three years old. from today", This time it was the man.
"Three years... That means both of you have been parents for three years aren't you?"
The both of them nodded simultaneously. It's not that they wanna get reprimanded, They can't help it in front of their grandfather.
" Then tell me when are you both going to grow up?", The old man was so stern with his motives. Today, He has to educate these two for not being responsible and being playful.
All that he got as a reply was a long silence. Both their head was still hanging down. It is evident from their silence that they are blaming themselves. The old man knows his children the best than anyone. On seeing that they are blaming themselves, his expression softened so was his voice.
"Look, I am not scolding are reprimanding you both. Ah Jie is already Three years from today. It only indicates that your responsibilities are growing along with her. I want you guys to be responsible. Is that too hard? I heard that you guys had taken the championship in this idea contest. I am proud of you two. But I think you guys still didn't get Why I prohibit you two to stay with Ah Jie. So tell me, Why didn't I allow you two, Ah Jie's Biological parents, to raise her?"
