"Everyone, we need to all attack together! This group is a group of monsters, why else would they accept that little monster?! Look there's another monster in their group, she even has a fucking tail! This disgusting creature- Peugh!"
Nobody saw him move, but everyone saw Zhan's spear pierced directly through the man's head. Zhan's gaze was cold as he looked around the room.
"Anyone else want to insult my cute Nui?"
"M-my cute Nui?!" Nui half mumbled and half cried out, turning a deep shade of red for the hundredth time this day.
"Nui and Kerry are under my protection, if anyone has a problem with that, then you can just go die." Zhan flicked his spear to throw off the blood, then walked away as the lifeless corpse dropped to the floor.
However, his already murderous gaze became even darker at what he saw next. Those 3 other guys actually took the death of their companion as an opportunity to charge at his group!
"Idiots." Zhan growled. He was about to rush forwards to deal with them all himself, but paused briefly.
"You dare kidnap my sister!" Unexpectedly, Hanlo had become completely infuriated past all reason without anyone noticing. When he saw the man charging forwards, he quickly targeted the man heading towards Kerry, then shot an icicle directly at him.
CHING! Thud!
The sight of an 11 year old boy killing a man in cold blood shocked the other two and made them hesitate with their steps. Taking this moment as her opportunity, Shia rushed forwards and resolutely liberated both of their heads from their bodies.
Thud! Thud!
Shia's gaze was cold, but she had to swallow and calm herself afterwards…she had killed again. Hanlo also paled and took a step back as he realised what he had done.
"Hah…" Zhan sighed. He really didn't intend to force a child to kill like that, nor did he think it right to make Shia continue killing after she was still mentally struggling with her earlier experience. He arrived besides them quickly and brought them back from their daze.
"If you hadn't killed them, then I would have. The world has become a brutal place, you shouldn't feel too bad about killing trash like this. The type of people that would kidnap a child certainly don't have any good intentions."
"Mm. I understand…thank you, Zhan."
"Right, I understand emperor!"
It seemed like Hanlo was dealing with this better than Shia…kids could be scary with how adaptable they were, unlike most adults who struggled to change their already set in stone world view.
Hanlo quickly turned away from his first kill and back towards his sister and they began to chat. Seeing Shia still staring at her two kills, Zhan sighed and used his signature move; the head-pat.
"Wh- stop that!" She was brought out from her daze and quickly stepped away. She turned away to tried to hide her blush, but her embarrassment was plain as day to Zhan. He chuckled slightly and shook his head, teasing these girls was too fun, no matter the situation.
"You don't need to handle everything alone Shia, remember that I'm here too."
Shia remained silent for awhile and kept looking down. Zhan was unable to see her face and wasn't sure if he should say something else, but he smiled when she finally looked up.
"Ok…thank you." She nodded.
They sat down on a couple of sofas and chatted with Kerry for sometime, trying to complete the confusing picture of exactly what was going on right now. Zhan already somewhat suspected this, but he could now confirm it…Kerry had an ability, the ability to tame mutated beasts!
So far she had only tamed this eagle, but Miu analysed her and explained that she should be able to control multiple beasts at once, depending on their strength.
The fatty was still stronger than her though, he saw the potential in her power and desperately wanted to control her. Well, he wanted to control everyone, which is why he started a small gang and immediately kidnapped this floor's residents. There were in total 26 survivors on this floor right now, all of whom were in this room.
After clearing all of that up, Zhan and the group turned to leave.
"You can all stay here if you want, or join everyone else downstairs in the lobby. They have weapons and quite a few people, you'll be safer down there, and the fire stairs should be safe enough." With that, he turned to leave, but some people were apparently discontent with his actions.
"Wait a minute! You can't just leave us here, you have a responsibility to protect us! You're the landlord of this building, and you have the power to keep us safe, so you need to take us all downstairs first!" A middle aged woman wearing a fur coat and red rimmed glasses stepped out and said this matter-of-factly.
"There's always one…" Zhan sighed and turned around with a dull look.
"…No." With that, he turned back around and ignored her.
"That's all you're going to say?" Shia looked up at him and smiled. She understood that he really couldn't be bothered to deal with these people. She understood his feelings…and after having to deal with these people for these past few years, she honestly felt a bit satisfied at being able to disregard them like this.
Ignoring the cries about 'responsibility' and 'complaining to his manager' from behind him, Zhan just nodded.
"It's not even worth responding to, these people are delusional."
Shia laughed when she heard this. Zhan glanced down at her and thought to himself that it was good that she was able to push her troubles to the back of her mind and move on.
"Zhan, are you ok, are you injured? Ah, Shia too, did you get hurt fighting those guys?" Nui appeared besides them and asked.
"I'm fine Nui, if I need your help then I'll let you know."
"I'm also unharmed Nui. Thank you for asking though." Shia smiled kindly at the young girl who was always trying her best to help out.
Although Kerry and an eagle had joined the group, they still planned to continue on with their previous plan. Kerry insisted that she wanted to stay with them, and Zhan didn't mind this either, given that her ability was pretty good. Nobody else disagreed…even if their plan was dangerous, it was probably safer for anyone to be by Zhan's side regardless.
Everyone returned to the previous formation with Zhan leading the pack, the ever-silent chief of security at the back along with Shia, then everyone else in the centre.
Kerry walked closer to Zhan than most, and after looking around, she made her way to Miu's side. She kept glancing back at Zhan and blushing, before finally looking up at Miu determinedly.
"Hmm?" Miu turned to Kerry, seeing that the young girl had something to ask her.
"Miu, can I ask you something? But you have to keep it to yourself, Ok?"
"Oh? Sure, what is it Kerry?" Miu smiled.
"Are you, Shia and Nui all Zhan's girlfriends?"
"Huh?! No, what gave you that idea?!" Miu's eyes widened. Although she was stunned, they were both keeping their voices very quiet. Zhan, however, had enhanced his perception stats substantially, and since there were no sounds other than their footsteps, he clearly heard every word of their conversation.
"Well you're all really pretty and Zhan is really strong and cool, and you all seem to get along…are you really not his girlfriends?" Kerry pressed.
Miu blushed slightly, but then coughed and shook her head.
"No, we're just friends…hey, why do you look so dubious?! Ahem. Why are you asking this anyway Kerry?"
"I…I want to be Zhan's girlfriend too." Kerry glanced back to Zhan and smiled as she blushed happily. Miu was stunned silent. So bold, this girl was so bold that it was almost scary!
"I think you're a bit young for him Kerry, haha…"
"Then, I'll become his girlfriend when I'm old enough! And I'll marry him!"
Trying to ignore their conversation, Zhan focussed half of his attention on observing the surroundings and remaining alert, then the other half on his status panel.

He earned a few life-points after killing those pigeons and the fatty, and now his body had finally adapted to all the points he applied earlier. Zhan was constantly looking to improve further, he could never truly relax in this world when he had already encountered so many terrifying opponents.
'My stamina, agility and vitality are all good enough. My strength is probably still lacking, my defence is lacking even more.'
He added half a point to strength and another half to defence. His body felt hot and his mind blurred for an instant, but Zhan didn't even stumble or slow down. He was beginning to grow accustomed to this feeling, whilst the impact of adding half a point became less as each stat rose higher. He was 90% fine within a few seconds, then 99% recovered within 3 minutes.
As she was watching Zhan from behind, Kerry blinked and rubbed her eyes.
"Did Zhan just grow bigger…?" She muttered in confusion. Everyone heard her and laughed, making her feel confused.
"It's related to his ability." Nui quickly stepped in besides Kerry and explained excitedly, a gleam was in her eyes that she was unable to hide. "Whenever Zhan grows stronger, it sort of feels like he's grown larger, but that's only because his strength and aura have improved!"
"So cool…" Kerry muttered dazedly.
"Mm, he is, ehehe." Nui beamed a smile. She was glad that she could finally talk to someone who agreed with her about this. What she didn't realise was that Shia and Miu also felt the same way, they just wouldn't say something so embarrassing out loud.
Zhan glanced back at Kerry and smiled to himself. He was glad to see that she wasn't dwelling on the news of her parents' deaths and instead trying her best to stay strong.
Honestly, after seeing those scary beasts up close and in person, she knew that it was likely that her parents and brother wouldn't make it back. She was already relieved to be reunited with Hanlo, and just as relieved to find such an amazing group to join.
