Chương 231: Mother And Daughter #31

My exams have ofically ended, and to be honest I should have posted a chapter yesterday, but I needed a day to relax and unwind.

I did well on the exams, but they were hella frustrating and a lot of shit happened, hence the need for an extra day off from doing anything productive, but I will resume updating daily starting from today.

Thank you all for your patience and enjoy the chapter!

...

"Everything looks in order..." I muttered as I lowered my company's registration papers and put them away in my inventory before standing up and heading for my gravity manipulation machine.

It was already late at night. After I met with Katherine Spencer, I made several stops all over Gotham, visiting Black Gate and the Arkham Asylum's wardens alongside several other officials to discuss early parole from Deadshot, Lady Vic, and Harley.

My meeting with Katherine went as well as it could go. She agreed to take the case but asked me to give her more time to consider whether she wanted to cruise along for the long ride.

In a way, I found the way she displayed skepticism at every step of our conversation to be positive, and it didn't bother me. I was out to accomplish a difficult, almost impossible task, and surrounding myself with yes men and women was the last thing I wanted.

Yes, I was smart. Likely smarter than anyone around. But I wasn't perfect, not by a long shot. In fact, it's because of my intelligence that I might be prone to make foolish, arrogant mistakes.

Lex Luthor is a prime example, the world's most intelligent man, perhaps more intelligent than Brainiac himself. But everything he did would end in disaster because he always thought he was better and brighter than everyone, losing touch with reality.

I had incredible powers that would only continue to grow. My actions would affect the lives of countless people. If I did something wrong or stupid, I wanted someone to call me out, as it would be others who suffered for my mistakes.

I learned that the hard way.

But that's enough brooding for one day. My visits to Black Gate and Arkham Asylum were equally successful. I managed to convince the people in charge to give the three hopefully former villains a chance at parole.

Now it was only a matter of waiting for Katherine to do her job and get them out of prison.

Everything else was going smoothly. I was slowly migrating the games and apps I'd created under my new company's name. The Question and Batwoman were slowly but steadily dismantling the Religion and making their way up the organization's hierarchy.

I was also constantly hunting down any digital traces the Intergang left and feeding information to the Metropolis police department to keep them busy to ensure the two vigilantes' work went smoothly.

Other than that, there was nothing else I could do, considering how late the time was, and I refused to go around lurking in the shadows as some dark, broody vigilante would to go about my buisness.

I'd already studied the magical metals I recovered from Faust's hideouts, and they weren't suitable as raw materials to create Richard's arm replacement. But, they would come in handy in other projects considering their properties, so they weren't entirely useless.

Long story short, I had nothing to do other than work on my gravity machine, and with the Starheart power ring, I should be able to finish it sooner rather than later.

"Now, let's see what my toy can really do..." I said, grinning as I equipped my power ring and approached the gravity machine.

...

Several hours later

"That's right, you little demon..." I said, narrowing my eyes as I poked my head from behind the couch, watching with a grin as Little Soot carefully approached the treat lying on the ground.

"It's just a treat. There's absolutely nothing suspicious about it..." I muttered, my grin widening as the little feline stopped before the paste treat and began sniffing it.

He promptly began licking it and was so engrossed in the cat treat he didn't even notice his little paws leaving the ground as he closed his eyes and devoured the snack.

Soot quickly finished it, opening his eyes and freezing as he noticed he was floating in the air. He meowed in confusion as he waved his paws in the air, trying to find a foothold and failing.

The little feline's confusion grew more pronounced, and his meows louder as he began moving around in the air while movings his paws, almost like he was swimming.

Having researched how to imbue gravitational properties into different objects, it was not hard to add said effects into Little Soot's treat after figuring out how to generate distinct characteristics, such as gravity resistance.

It would have taken at least several days to get to this stage, but the power ring made everything a lot easier as it enabled me to force specific issues instead of slowly working through them.

Luring my cat to take the bait was as simple as luring a food-motivated cat with a tasty treat. The little critter had been gaining weight as of late, and I had to cut down on some of Little Soot's favorite treats, to which he responded by lunging at the past snack.

Naturally, it was 100% safe as I tried it on myself beforehand, not the cat treat, but you get the idea. Either way, it should wear off in a couple of minutes, but Soot didn't seem to appreciate it as he scanned the area while baring his teeth.

We locked eyes, and the little Soot immediately hissed, likely realizing its predicament was my doing. The little critter immediately began quickly and aggressively floating in my direction, paws paddling through the air and claws outstretched.

"Whoops..."

...

Running towards her charge at full speed, Cassandra couldn't help but grimace as the girl noticed her and immediately panicked, likely misunderstanding the situation.

Still, she didn't stop as she ran past the young girl and stopped behind her, raising her hand to use the tonfa hidden beneath her sleeve to block a vicious swing from the assailant's saber.

Cassandra took the time to size up her opponent. She immediately froze as she noticed a familiar, feminine set of eyes that looked strikingly similar to her own looking down at her.

She impatiently grunted as realization dawned on her. She firmly planted her feet into the ground, leaning into the assailant's weapon, which ripped her sleeve and freed the tonfa.

She quickly deflected the saber's edge to the side and jumped back, coldly glaring at the woman standing before her as her charge, the rich young girl, and her friends fled in all directions.

"Blood runs thicker than water, but I didn't expect you to recognize me, Cassandra..." The assailant, Lady Shiva, said as she removed the mask covering half her face.

"As expected from my daughter," Lady Shiva calmly added, brandishing her blade as she threw the mask away, seemingly ready to continue fighting her daughter.

Cassandra didn't seem to share her enthusiasm as she only grunted, her expression shifting into a strange mixture of confusion, anger, sadness, and faint hope.

"Don't be naive, child," Lady Shiva said in an icy tone, firmly shaking her head as she was more than able to understand her daughter. "I have been waiting for this moment since you were born," She went on, her grip tightening over the saber.

"Now, you can fight back or allow me to slaughter you like a helpless little lamb," Lady Shiva added as she slowly approached Cassandra, steadily increasing her speed.

"Either way, one of us dies today," Lady Shiva concluded, her expression cold as her slow stride turned into a charge, and she sped towards her daughter, saber raised.

Cassandra stubbornly grunted, unfazed by Lady Shiva's persistence, but she raised her tonfa and quickly blocked a swing heading straight for her neck.

She didn't follow up or try to counterattack and merely stood still, much to Lady Shiva's displeasure, causing her to frown. "Stop acting coy now, girl," She said while maintaining her composure as she swung at Cassandra's torso.

"You are my daughter. You were bred and raised to become the ultimate weapon," Lady Shiva calmly remarked as she watched Cassandra raise her weapon and block the swing.

"Fighting and Killing is in your nature..." Lady Shiva said as she spun in place and kicked at Cassandra's abdomen, connecting and sending the latter sliding backward with a pained expression. appear

"Poor Faizul was the first to experience the true nature you try to hide, wasn't he...?" Lady Shiva said, staring straight into Cassandra's eyes and smiling as she finally noticed signs of anger arise on her daughter's face.

"I saw how you killed him. One finger into the right pressure spot is all it took, and he died slowly, choking on his own blood..." Lady Shiva added, her smile widening even more as Cassandra's expression grew worse and worse with every word.

"You kept staring into his eyes, watching as the life left his body, and enjoying every second of it..." She said, smiling as she tilted and raised her head, looking down on her daughter.

Cassandra finally lost her calm and grunted angrily at those words, brandishing her tonfa as she charged Lady Shiva.

"Yes, that's my daughter..."
