Chương 246: The king with no crown

The massive gate opened and the girl led them into the throne hall, in complete defeat, as if she wasn't alive at all. Her gaze turned blank and her movements stiff. It wasn't what allowed her to stay in character.

There was an old man on the throne, without a crown or fancy clothes. He wore instead simple clothes and it was then that Mike and Stephan remembered how the village around looked prosperous and alive. It was well-taken care of and yet, this man, forgot to act upon a promise and pay back the wise fox.

The king had his cheek leaning on his knuckles, looking comfortable and bored.

"I heard that my daughter brought guests over," he looked at the girl, who kept the same expression. "It seems her journey has been hard enough and your journey as well," the king seemed uninterested on them both, as if they were just ants walking some kind of chain to make the events flowing. "What are the rewards you seek, knight and… performer?"
