"what is it doing here?" Alex was visibly shocked.
The Hesperides Garden was one of the myths many people were discussing, and many others were looking for.
'And that must be Ladon, the guardian of the three, his only level 30 now,' thought Alex.
The garden appeared once a year in a random location, and each time, the level of the beast protecting it would rise.
In his previous life, this garden and its fruits were the reason for the rising and falling of several monstrous guilds.
But since it only appeared once a year and nobody knew of its exact location, no guild could challenge it with enough manpower and could only steal one or two fruits from the tree.
But now, they had a whole team with them. The only problem was, of course, the legendary beast protecting it.
"What is that, Alex?" asked Max with curiosity, "is it something good?"
"good doesn't even begin to describe it," said Alex, "if we could grab even one of the fruits on that tree, our trip to this dungeon could be considered a colossal success."
Each fruit on the tree had a unique reward of its own. One could upgrade your job by one level; another could give you a skill, title, or equipment ….
In his previous life, the best reward someone gained from the fruit on that tree was a piece of legendary equipment capable of preventing death once every month in real life.
Of course, it was easier said than done. In his previous life, nobody could grab more than two fruits from the tree since, after two, the beast would enter a berserk state and kill everyone around it. And the fruits would always drop and disappear with the death of the person carrying them.
As for killing the beast, you could forget about it; the lowest level it ever appeared before was level 68, and even then, a group of five level 100 plus players couldn't kill it.
Apparently, with each subsequent ten levels, its power and skills entered another new level entirely and gained a new skill. So right now, it had to have at the very least three skills capable of wiping them.
"If only it was one level lower…." Alex murmured to himself.
"Are you thinking of killing it? Are you crazy? It's a legendary beast; we don't stand a chance against it even with our superior levels." Sid shouted.
"Shut up, I know. But those fruits are life-changing. You can't even imagine their wort." Said Alex with irritation. He really wanted more than two fruits. "I guess we must forget about killing it. The only option is for the team to keep it occupied while one of us grabs as many fruits as possible. The only problem here is that after picking two fruits, Ladon will enter a berserk state….."
"I think you should be the one picking the fruits since you are the one with the most agility points in the team." Said Max looking at Alex.
"I think that way too; what I don't know is how to grab more than two without being killed."
"what if we challenge it more than once? Each time we only grab two," said Asue.
"it doesn't work that way. As soon as the first fruit leaves the hundred-meter diameter of the tree, it will disappear." Said Alex before sighing and saying, "I think we don't have any chance but to die a few times to get to know its attack patterns and skills."
"I agree, let's do that. Just don't pick the third fruit until every member of the group is dead," said Max.
"Ok. what about the formation?" asked Alex.
"since it will most probably one-hit-kill us with the first contact, I think Paria can stay down for this one too. As for the formation, we will go with the E formation. Reyhan and Asue will be the core of the formation."
Max didn't need to explain anymore since they had gone through this formation so many times.
"Are there any questions?" Max asked, and after seeing no one asking any questions, he said, "ok, let's start."
Everybody except Alex ran towards the tree, and as soon as they entered the hundred miter diameter, Ladon opened its eyes.
The team froze in place and didn't take a step further. They were all in a state of shock when they saw the monster opening its eyes, and a deathly fear took over all of them.
The snake looked in their direction and observed each and every one of them for a second, but when his eyes landed on Sid, a fit of rage was visible in his eyes and attacked without notice.
"get ready; it's coming," Max shouted.
"why is it looking at me that way? It's creepy," Sid shouted back with fear.
"Change formation to formation A. Sid is the core. if he wants to get to him, he must go through us first."
Sid was in front of the formation as one of the main attackers, but when it became clear that he was the group's first target, Max decided to change the formation so that he would be at the team's end after Asue and Reyhan.
The snake didn't even let them finish the new formation and tried its best to attack Sid as if he had killed its family. It didn't even pay attention to the attacks that came from the others.
"what is happening?" Alex observed the situation as he was running to the tree, "something is off."
When he reached the tree, he started picking after making sure that the snake was still occupied.
To his surprise, the snake was still chasing after Sid, who was trying his best to dodge every attack coming his way.
"wait a minute, don't tell me . . ."
Alex didn't wait any longer for others to die and picked two more fruits and looked back to see if the snake had noticed him. But as he predicted, the snake was still after Sid as if he was his nemesis.
"I don't know why but that shithead seemed to have done something to Ladon to make him this angry. Hehe, good for me, bad for him."
It hasn't been more than 15 seconds from the start of the attack, but miraculously, Sid was still standing while Ryan, Kate, Parisa, and Max, who attacked the snake, were dead from indirect causes.
The snake didn't even need to attack them directly to kill them. They attacked the snake and were hit by its tail as it was chasing Sid.
What they didn't know was that in Greek mythology, Hesperides Garden belonged to Hera, Zeus's wife, and Hephaistos's mother.
Hephaistos also had another name in Roman mythology. Vulcan.
When he was born, Hephaistos was so hideous looking that even his mother Hera couldn't stand to look at him (what a b**ch, right?), so she denounced her own son, and after that, their relationship was like that of oil and water.
Right now, Ladon was chasing after Sid, without paying attention to all the attacks coming from Leo, Asue, and Reyhan, just because he smelled like its master's enemy.
As Alex was picking the fourth fruit, Sid finally died after 20 seconds of struggle, and the snake seemed to notice something was off.
Without even looking back, Ladon went into a fit of rage and ignored the three remaining attackers, and went straight for Alex.
Alex didn't even try to flee and just stood there, ready to die.
If he didn't stall from the beginning, he was sure that he could at least pick two more fruits.
When he respawned, he was standing out of the hundred-meter circle with the other members of the team, and not long after, Leo, Asue, and Reyhan joined them too.
"Why didn't you come back for help?" asked Reyhan.
"We tried, but we couldn't. there was an invisible barrier stopping us." Said Max.
"you can't enter the circle twice until all your party members are dead." Said Alex while thinking of his new plan.
"what was that??? Why did that f**ing snake chase me like I killed its parents? It was like my worst nightmare; I almost peed myself." Sid shouted with agitation.
"you must be very delicious," said Leo with a smirk.
"shut up, dude, that was the scariest experience of my life; I don't want to do that again."
But the next second, as if thinking the same thing, Alex and Max looked at each other and said, "are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
Then they both turned their heads and looked at Sid as if looking at a worm on a hook.
"Why are you looking at me that way?" Sid said, a little bit scared by the strange looks he was getting.
"Nothing, it's just that your value just went up from zero to hundred." Said Alex and started laughing like a devil.
