Emily was standing in front of Alex with her eyes closed, ready to die, when suddenly Alex shouted, "I can't do it, I can't do it."
"do you want me to do it?" asked Max.
"no, I will do it myself," said Alex and pushed Max away, then got ready and raised his sword, but he stopped and turned around the next second, "I really can't."
"oh, stop being a wuss, Alex," said Emily in anger, "just do it already."
"Language Emily. And I'm doing my best; just give me a minute to prepare."
"It's been more than 30 minutes; just do it," Sid said from behind Alex.
"shut up, Sid; I can do it; I just need a little bit more time. Ok, I'm going to do it this time, just close your eyes and remember to relax."
Alex tightened his grip around his sword and took a deep breath. Then without giving it a second, or better say thirty-seventh thought, he stabbed forward, right where Emily's heart was.
Emily looked shocked and felt a stinging pain in her chest for a millisecond before everything went blank.
It didn't even take a second for her to reappear ten meters away with her body intact.
She was frozen in place, unable to move a finger, when a drop of tear dropped from her eye.
"are you ok? I knew we shouldn't have done it." Alex ran to her and hugged her tight.
Emily didn't say anything for a few seconds but then touched Alex's forehead and said, "I saw dad."
Alex was dumbfounded; he had heard of rare cases where people claimed that they saw a dead person when they first experienced death in the SR, but he never believed it was true.
"he was happy," said Emily and started crying in Alex's arms.
"ok, that's enough for today; I think we can go back," said Alex and looked at Max, "can you take over?"
"yes, you two go rest," answered Max.
After Alex and Emily left the SR, nobody said anything for a while until Max broke the silence and said, "who wants to be next?"
Everybody took a step back but Sid.
When Sid saw Max looking at him, he came out of his daze and looked around, "wh-what? no, I don't wa—" but it was too late, and Max had already moved.
He finished Sid with a single punch to the neck and looked at the rest, "If there are no volunteers, then I guess there is no other way," said Max before running towards Kate and finishing killing her too.
It took the others a second to figure out what was happening, but they didn't have the time to react before Max took all their lives.
Even the kids weren't spared. Now that they were somewhat mentally ready was the best chance.
He didn't want them to sleep while thinking about death, so what better way than to get it over with.
"what was that?" shouted Sid while panting.
Others weren't faring any better; Reyhan was grabbing her head with both hands while Ryan was on his knees vomiting.
Leo was crying. Parisa, Kate, and Asue just looked at a spot in front of them in a daze.
Surprisingly, the kids were handling it much better as they only stood there looking around with surprise.
They didn't feel much pressure from death since they were still kids, and unlike Emily, who was expecting the blow, they didn't have the chance to think about it too much before the finishing blow.
"a five-minute rest before the next round," announced Max and walked to his siblings to check on them.

Inside the suite, Emily was still crying in Alex's arms like a little baby.
Alex just hugged her and let her get it all out of her system. He was ever good at emotions, and the best he could do right now was to be silent.
The death of their father was still fresh in her memory, and although with so much happening in the last few weeks, she had almost forgotten it, she was still a kid who had lost her father.
Twenty minutes later, the cries stopped, and Emily went to sleep. Alex put her in bed, lay next to her, and entered the SR.
Inside the jungle, his companions were panting like they hadn't breathed in the last thousand years.
To his surprise, the three kids were all standing as if nothing had happened, but Alex could see that they clearly were under the penalty that came after death.
When a person died in the SR, they would lose 10% of their stats for five minutes.
Alex walked to Max and asked, "how many rounds?"
"three," answered Max without any other explanations.
"they are still not ready; I think they still need to die at least two more times."
When the others heard Alex say that they had to die two more times, they all started begging for mercy simultaneously.
Then suddenly, Sid thought of something and shouted, "everybody, log out of the …."
Alex didn't let him finish his sentence and finished him off with a slash, "tch, that shithead," and then ran towards the others.
He didn't bother killing the kids since they had already adapted to the feeling.
They just stood there looking at the massacre in front of them with amused looks on their faces.
Even the shy Lily was smiling like a little killer, "can I try too?" said Lily while looking at Sid like a predator looking at her prey.
"no, it's too early for you," Max stepped in before Alex could give her the sword.
"ok, I think that's enough for today." Said Alex.
"you think? Really?" shouted Sid.
"shut up, or I will kill you again."

All this time, Nano was sitting in front of a large TV with a bucket of popcorn in hand, looking at Max and Alex killing the others like it was the best show she had ever seen.
