Chương 30: a new friend?

"who is there?" Alex asked with panic, but no answer came. Then he ordered the system to get him back to his real body but to no avail.

Alex picked a direction and started running; he felt like he was in a nightmare, but the green dot in the upper right corner of his eyes told him that he was awake.

"how long in the future?" asked the voice again.

Alex felt a force pushing against him in whichever direction he wanted to run.

"I don't know what you are talking about," Alex shouted.

"you can't fool me; I know you must be from the future. You said it yourself, and after checking your records…."

Alex interrupted the beautiful voice and asked, "who are you? How can you look through my records?"

Suddenly the darkness vanished, and he was standing in a white space. In front of him stood the most beautiful girl he had ever seen in his entire life.

The girl smiled sweetly and said, "sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm nano 84392, but you can call me nano. Can you tell me your name too? I know your name, but apparently, the social conviction dictates that when two people meet each other for the first time, they have to introduce each other."

Alex didn't know how to react to the beautiful girl in front of him. He was totally bewitched by her beautiful smile and stood there just staring at her for a minute.

"hellooo, can you hear me?" said the girl and waved her hands in front of Alex.

Alex came out of his daze and said, "h-hello, I'm Alex,"

The girl giggled very sweetly, and Alex went into a daze once again.

"Hello, Alex, can I ask you how long in the future you come from?" asked the girl with a charming smile on her face.

At the mention of the word "future," Alex came back to his senses and took a defensive position, "who are you? what do you want with me?"

The girl was clearly amused by Alex's reaction and said, "as I said, I'm nano 84392; I just want to know how long from the future you came back from."

"who said I came back from the future?" asked Alex with a serious tone.

As if ready for this question, the girl moved her right hand, and a screen appeared next to her, showing Alex and the others talking.

"I come from ten years in the future," said Alex in the video.

Alex's face turned pale, and thought, 'I really f**ed up this time,' then looked at the girl and said, "that was just a joke. I didn't mean any of that."

"then, how do you explain your accomplishments? They can't all be coincident. Look, I don't want to harm you or anything like that; I just want to confirm something." Said the girl.

"what do you mean you want to confirm something?" asked Alex.

"I want to know if something happens in the future."

Alex, who knew he was caught, looked the girl in the eye and said with a serious tone, "why should I tell you anything?"

He wasn't afraid of the girl; she clearly couldn't harm him, or else she would have done it long ago. She also couldn't read his mind, or else she didn't need to ask him that question.

As if reading his mind, the girl said, "I can't read your mind unless you give me permission. Look, if you want, we can sign a contract. Even I can't run from the consequences of voiding contract terms."

"what do you mean "even you"? Who are you? and don't tell me your name; I want to know who you are, and how do you have access to my records?"

"I'm the one that you call system." Said the girl.

Alex almost fell bott first to the non-exciting ground when he heard the girl. 'how could this be? I never heard of someone talking to the system before.'

"that's probably because I…. let's just say I was unable to."

"can you stop doing that?" Alex interrupted her.

"Doing what?"

"reading my mind."

"as I said before, I can't read your mind without your permission; what I'm doing is basically guessing your thoughts based on your body language."

"don't do that either."

"ok," said nano with a dropped head like a little girl who was scolded by her parents.

Alex's face softened at the sight of the girl's sad look, and said, "look, I don't know what you want to know but can't let you look into my mind. Just ask me what you want to know, and I will answer you if I know the question. I'm sure you can tell if I'm laying."

"I can't; I really can't. If I could, I would. But I really can't." said nano with a sad face.

Alex noticed a hint of loneliness in the girl's voice, and it made his heart tighten, so in the end, he decided to give in a little and said, "ok, I will let you read my mind but just until the events of the next year if you sign a contract with me."

He didn't know what, but something in that girl made him want to trust her, even if it meant endangering himself.

"But I have one condition," said Alex and looked at the girl, "I want a hundred mythic items in return."

The corner of nano's lips twitched, but she held herself together and said, "I can't give you any item above rare grade. It will destroy the balance and the rules don't allow that. The legendary items and the two mythic jobs that you and your friends have already changed the balance. If it weren't for the rules, I would have taken them from you by force by now."

"But I don't need rare grade items. What else can you give me? can you give me information on the location of dungeons with specific rewards?"

"I can't do that either; I can't give you any form of information."

"then what can I get in return?"

"I can offer you my friendship."

"I don't want your friendship; I want something that I can use. Can you give me INBs?"

Nano was clearly hurt by Alex's remark and just said, "I can't give you more than ten billion INBs or else...."

"It would change the balance. I know, I know," said Alex in anger, but then he looked up, and when he saw the girl's sad expression, he said, "ok, ten billion and your friendship, how about that?"

"yay, you got a deal," the girl jumped up in happiness.
