Chương 13: Spying

[Evening. West.

Administration. Kifestein]

Crash!!

The loud noise surprised the attendants of the meeting, yet no one could object. At the head of the table, a furious man screamed. "HOW!? How can something under LEVEL 3 security get STOLEN!? All you nitwits are USELESS!! Pieces of SHIT!"

Their boss was going on an unsightly outrage, but no one found it unreasonable. A big mistake was made, and if what they lost fell into the hands of the wrong person, the whole of Kifestein could be in danger. Even before that, though. Their secret would be out.

Sergei took a deep breath and sat back down. Shouting wouldn't solve the problem, and if it wasn't solved, Sergei would fall the hardest.

"Station more men at all the spots and tighten patrol immediately. Croley, get your men to empty the dangerous vaults. Don't get too suspicious. I want someone to track 'their' movements. Get to work! NOW!" he bellowed.

The men all scurried about in a hurry to carry out the orders they had received.

Yesterday, the passwords and patterns to some classified vaults disappeared from plain sight. Ammunition and weaponry, along with various kinds of explosives. The filled vaults had enough of these to pose a threat to the city. If the administration's smuggling operation was revealed, then even death would be mercy.

As time passed and the level of magic mastery in the general populace decreased. Weapons like simple guns were more than enough to threaten mages. The peak normal citizens could reach was grade 3 of magic. Should an armed group surface now, Kifestein will get engulfed in the flames of war.

[Nea Alba. Restaurant.

East. Kifestein]

"So, who are those guys?" I asked. We came to a restaurant to continue our conversation.

"They are anarchists. People who got an excellent taste out of freedom during the revolution, and now want to live in a lawless world." Ivan said.

"Oh ho. Calling them idiots would've been simpler, right?" There sure are all kinds of fools these days. "Well, why would you not want to see them?"

"Never read a book? Frequent run-ins with secret organizations mean that they are up to no good!"

"Why does that sound so persuasive yet so damn stupid?"

"So you get it after all!" exclaimed the idiot from across me.

Click~

"What's with that frequent clicking?" I asked. This sound reverberated through the air almost every hour now.

"Just my watch. It's broken," he said while flashing a beautiful pocket watch.

Ivan suddenly closed up on me and pointed to another table with his chin, "Hey, look there. Tattoo," he whispered.

On the other table was a person with the same tattoo on his hands. The scrawny man anxiously ate his food, his eyes moving back and forth from a clock.

How did he appear so conveniently?

I whispered back, "Hey Ivan. Want to check out what this is all about?"

"Haha, let's do that. I was worried about cutting this date arc short."

"I'll say the date is just beginning~"

Even if they are on the rise, how can one group be careless enough to show themselves multiple times in one day? I see now, my accompanying him was his plan all along. Ivan had orchestrated all the run-ins. Bastard, I'll flip this soon. Before that, though. "Let me just... eat all this before that, yeah? Can't waste food now."

"Hah~" Ivan sighed.

After having our fill, we sat there for a while, monitoring the tattooed fella.

"So the terrorist told the guy in front of him, 'we are going to kill 20 people and a donkey'—" Yes, the person who made that stupid voice just now is, in fact, Ivan. "The guy goes (*high pitch) 'why a donkey?' then the terrorist tells his partner, (*deep voice) 'see no one cares about the people!'... Hahaha... What? what? why are you patting my shoulder like that? What's with the 'I understand, must be tough' face, eh? Eh, eh?"

It's ok man, even if you are trying to use me, I feel for you. Must be tough, being like that... Oh, the guy got up. "I know it's hard, but we need to move now, Ivan"

"Please, just stop already!"

5 minutes after the man left, we got up and followed behind.

"You stand out too much, here." I felt something on my head and looked to my side—

—I fucking shouldn't have done that...

Walking right next to me was a man wearing a monocle and a bowler hat. The guy donned a simple white coat with a black ribbon and carried a walking stick. Didn't we just see all this on display in the stores?

"How did you just...?"

"Don't worry about it. They were gifts. Here, put on this coat too." Before I could realize it, he had already wrapped a scarf around my neck and was handing me a different coat. The heck? "Gotta take the spying seriously, right? The dark clouds sure look funny with a monocle, haha."
