Zhao Shu and his servants took residence in the modest guest room within the eastern courtyard. Qiao Xuan, upon learning of his arrival, instructed the kitchen to prepare a few extra dishes and extended an invitation for dinner to Zhao Shu.
The family harbored no reservations towards Zhao Shu. As he was destined to be their future son-in-law, there was no need to entertain suspicions.
Eager to proceed, Zhao Shu, along with his hosts, shared a meal together. As they sat in the parlor sipping tea, Zhao Shu finally rose, offering a deep bow to Shao Yunduan and Qiao Xuan, and broached the subject of marrying Taotao to Shao Yunduan.
The air froze.
Shao Yunduan raised his eyebrows.
Qiao Xuan looked at him and then at Zhao Shu, and smiled.
She didn't say anything.
She knew very well what her husband was thinking.
This matter had been going on for so long. It was time for an outcome.
