Kendis' POV
FLASHBACK CONT.
"Ignore her!" Liam grumbled.
What? Is he mad?
Immediately, a girl so beautiful and seemingly familiar, stomped towards us and grabbed Liam's arm forcefully.
I was stunned.
"Ava!" Liam gritted his teeth but surely let the girl pull him away.
I wondered if they were lovers. The way they appeared to be close, I think I was saved.
"What is going on here?" I heard another stunningly beautiful woman ask from the crowd.
After what seemed like a very short minute, Liam straightened his coat and turned to smile at me. I was taken aback.
I glanced at the girl who tightened her lips and forced me a smile as well.
'What the hell just happened?'
"Anyway, let's proceed ahead." Liam announced and the priest continued as if nothing happened.
Our marriage was sealed with a kiss on my hand. An electric spark tingled the skin where his soft warm lips brushed.
While everyone rejoiced, I gloomily stood there pondering how I should explain this to my mom.
"Congratulations!" Everyone kept repeating while we headed to the reception area at the same venue but inside.
While everyone was busy enjoying themselves, after our dance and food, I was suddenly pulled to one side by that same girl.
"Excuse me?" Flabbergasted, I questioned her sudden action.
She hated me! It was clear from her face.
"Kennedy! Don't act in front of me! I know you too well." She threatened and I gaped at her face remembering who she is.
"Ava Brown?" The richest girl in our university.
"So, you remembered huh? What are you doing in place of Kandis? Where did she go? I am sure it's one of your dirtiest tricks to get Liam." Her accusation stabbed me.
I was angry.
"Oh please! Why don't you ask Liam about that before blaming it on me?" I challenged, hating her attitude.
She has always had some problems with me. Even in university before I dropped out of it.
"You…! How dare you talk to me like that?" And before she could have slapped me, another voice called from behind.
"Ava! Are you there?" Ava stilled and immediately dropped her hand to her side.
It amazed me.
Just like that the stunningly beautiful woman from before appeared with a man by her side.
They made a really great pair.
This woman was gentle and kind, however, I cannot see what kind of man he was. The man did seem like Ava and the woman resembled Liam.
"Oh, mom! I came to see my sister-in-law." Ava turned while I stood frozen in my place.
Holy Frick! I can't handle her.
"That's good! We could finally come and say hello to our daughter-in-law!" The woman approached me and hugged me instantly.
I couldn't reciprocate her embrace for a few seconds; until, I spotted Liam giving us calculative looks.
His cold glares automatically made me return his mother's warm hug.
When we separated she was overjoyed.
"You're beautiful, Kendis. I am Fiona, but call me mom. Sorry we couldn't meet earlier as I was out of the country with some or the other work." She said and it surprised me.
Woah! They never met before?
"It came as a surprise when Liam said he was getting married this month and we needed to come." His dad added, extending his arm out for a handshake.
I smiled sweetly at them and accepted his hand.
"Hi, I am Rick Brown. Liam's dad. It's pleasant to meet the girl who stole Liam's heart." He grinned and my heart ached with his words.
It's unfortunate that we were deceiving them. They needed to know the truth.
"It's not a big deal dad." Liam sounded dejected and I guess, except for me, no one noticed how upset he was.
"Ah! Always like that! When are you going to change?" His dad laughed and patted his shoulder.
"Anyway, you look tired, Kendis. Do you wanna go home?" Fiona asked and I shivered, not knowing how to answer that.
"Uh, we still have guests…" I started but she waved her hand in dismissal.
"Ah, what a generous wife you scored Liam. Honey, you don't have to worry about them. They are already enjoying themselves too much to even notice your absence." And the couple laughed, making it slightly embarrassing for me.
"Liam, take your wife home. We'll handle the rest." Rick added and I obliged silently, grateful to escape from them.
However, we decided to announce our leave before we were gone.
The moment I was escorted in his car, I let out a deep sigh. Liam sat beside me and huffed in annoyance.
"What were you talking about with my sister?" He asked and I frowned.
"Nothing really. She wanted to know why I was there in the first place. I guess only she knew Candice." I said and his head snapped in my direction so fast that I was scared it didn't break.
"And what did you say?" He asked, making me speechless.
He seemed on edge, ready to pop a vein.
"N-nothing!" I whispered.
However, Liam seemed unconvinced. He grumbled and immediately, the partition of the car was placed, giving us personal space.
Liam leaned close to me, making me crawl back against the car door.
"If I find you snitching on me, you know what would happen, right?" He asked and I gulped, nodding.
"Good." He sighed.
He straightened back in his seat.
I let out a sigh of relief and carefully sat upright, not wanting to glance at his psychotic face. The ride became awkward. If only I had the strength to jump out of a running car…
To my surprise we stopped in front of a huge castle-like house… What do you even call that?
"Sir, we have arrived!" The driver said and I immediately went to open the door when his big warm hand covered mine; stopping me from doing that.
The sudden warmth surprised me; I gasped and tried to snatch my hand away.
"Where are you headed to? I didn't say you could stay here." He frowned and I was surprised.
Not sure if I was happy or not!
"But…" now what?
I don't want to stay with him too but didn't he say that I have to act as his bride?
"Don't tell me your greed has started showing." He clearly hated me!
Like hell!
"Fine! Then don't come crying to me; asking me to come back." I snapped at him.
Inwardly, I was hurt.
But who cares about his snobby attitude.
"Ah! As if that would ever happen!" He chuckled darkly and stepped out of the car with an amazing grace.
"Drop her anywhere she wants to but don't waste too much of your time." He instructed the driver and by god, it irked me too much.
I glared at his handsome form and kept debating in my head as to how I should get back at him.
Eventually, I couldn't take it anymore and asked the driver to stop the car.
"But… We are not-" he started but I cared less.
"I said stop it this minute!" Firmly emphasizing, the driver stopped the car and gave me a quizzical look.
"Give me your coat!" I demanded; angrily pointing at his jacket and then extending my hand forward to make it clear.
"Ma'am, please-" this driver was too mannered and I was sorry that he was at my receiving end but that's that.
"Please don't make me repeat it." I tried to be gentle and he sighed; quickly handing me his jacket.
I immediately stepped out of the car and watched until he left.
Finally, feeling at peace; I let the tears stream down my face while I slipped the coat on to cover myself up from unwanted attention and the slight cool breeze.
Jerk! What does he think of himself anyway?
