Adam wasn't the only one who found the whole situation ridiculous. Nyaura felt the same thing.
The late afternoon after the incident; in her more intimidating and muscular form, she heard more details about the events that transpired. It was like hearing the chaos was from some kind of fantasy.
A transparent figure took away Velma's personal blade, Divinity Striker, and had slain two 'demons'.
That seemed to be all they could conclude.
The tigress woman held her head in pain and tried to think of words to say, but could find anything.
Especially when her loyal retainer brought a man in.
"This is Mr Realguy. As you can see, he has a similar face to the 'Adam Graham'. He can replace him for us as a body double in that centre of the territory. Amma, please take a step." Ardo brought a blind wolf man without consulting her first.
But when she saw the face of this 'newcomer' who she was told arrived on the day of the incident, her face started to twitch. His demeanour and looks had changed, but he was definitely 'that man'.
"Nice to meet you, Amma." Unlike her, it looked like Velma was easily swayed by the lion man's words.
She walked up to him and shook the wolf man's hand. Unknowing that their minds were all alike.
No one wanted to take responsibility for this.
Not the Beastkins living in his territory, nor the man who was the cause of the incident in the first place.
"You know he could be lying to us, right?" When she brought this up, Adam looked strangely happy.
As if he finally found someone of his wavelength.
"Beastkins aren't like humans. We don't ever lie to each other." Ardo spoke up as an example of this.
Not only did he always make his intentions clear to her, but he was loyal despite his ambitions.
Even when the two of them had been knocked out last night, he didn't try to usurp power from them.
This was just how his heart worked.
Maybe he could be cowardly at times, but the entire reason he was kept around was due to this.
Surprisingly, he was a man of great integrity.
"What if he became a Beastkin only recently?"
"How is that even possible? Our lineage is in our genetics. It's not like someone could suddenly transform into a Beastkin." The lion-like vice leader assured her. Fully confident in his judgement.
"What if he's simply lying to us?" These words didn't move Ardo, but Velma chose to test Adam.
She walked straight before him.
Even though Adam was confident he'd grown lately, he wasn't sure he'd be able to beat her.
He remembered she was able to use the fighting style of the drunkard without the deranged mind.
And was very much an intimidating figure…
However, the joke's on her.
Adam couldn't see the beautiful yet dangerous look on her face. He was completely unmoved.
"Are you lying to us?"
"No." He responded to Velma as if stating the facts.
His heartbeat didn't fluctuate (likely because of his Gamer Physique) and his eyes were still closed.
"…He's probably not lying." The brunette Esparda Knight made an assumption from his demeanour.
He didn't look threatening enough to tell a lie.
"See! What did I say~?" Ardo slapped his back heavily, which made him want to murder the guy.
'Fuck… My back...' It wasn't that the hit was too powerful. The celebration hit was too unexpected.
He'd almost tripped over.
"What if he lied that he isn't lying?" Nyuara spoke.
"Are you lying to us?" Velma asked him again.
"No." He shamelessly replied again.
It didn't matter how many times she asked. He wasn't going to reveal his identity uselessly.
However, Nyaura noticed that Ardo was starting to become suspicious despite what he said earlier.
The gears in his head were continuously turning.
Rather than giving more of a reason for a fight to start, the tigress woman decided to lead them on.
Unlike them, she had constantly experienced the spite of those around her… deep down to the bone.
She knew the damage the cycle of hatred caused compared to the truth. So she spoke up first:
"Oh yeah… I remember about him now." The eyes of the Esparda Knight and Ace turned towards her.
"…Really?" Ardo was the first to inquire further.
"Yeah… of course… of course… I remember talking to his sister, Yora Realguy. She talked about how his ears and tail had changed colour after falling into a vat of chemicals." When Nyaura spoke about this, Adam didn't even need to look at her face.
She was definitely talking bullshit.
"That's good… So the plan is workable?"
"Yeah, ahem… Ardo, you will be in charge of persuading the others to stay quiet about this."
"And what about me?" Velma pointed at herself in great anticipation. She wanted more responsibility.
"You will go with… 'Amma', and make sure they are persuaded. They'll get suspicious if he doesn't go home. For now, I'll tell him what he needs to do so we won't get caught. Dismissed." Nyaura waved her hand, and the two of them went to work.
The brunette followed Ardo to persuade the others.
When the Esparda Queen and the blind gamer were left alone, a silence arose between them.
Adam was the first to break the silence:
"Thanks for protecting me."
"I'm only doing what you would've done. I'm also not the type to hold a grudge over last night." She smiled, but realised he wouldn't be able to see it anyway. Any curtesies before him were useless.
It made her muscles relax…
Her form started to become more leaner and fragile to the eyes, becoming a cat girl once again.
She felt like her joints had become more flexible…
Letting her stretch without minding his presence.
"So what's the plan now?" Adam didn't know what to do in this situation. He was on the way home.
Ready to return to that mansion…
"I've heard our previous King can't visit thanks to his injuries. I'm not sure what happened, but it looks like we can put our business on hold… if that's what you'd like." Nyaura gave him a choice.
"Then let's do that."
"Are you sure about this?"
"…Why? Is there something wrong?" When he spoke this, Nyaura handed him a letter.
He opened it up to look at its contents, then sighed while looking back to where the woman should be.
"Yup, I can't read anymore." The translation feature of Adam's new system only worked on his vision.
So what was the point of handing him a letter?
"Oh, sorry… Basically, the letter is saying that your instructor, Kang Hyuk, had made a mess recently."
"What did he do…?"
"He went into a cathedral and shouted that he was gay." This response made Adam feel real awkward.
He now had to second guess himself on whether things would work out. Hyuk was honest, but…
"What happened after that?"
"He beat a few priests and guards up before escaping. The identity of that girl was revealed."
"…Motherfucker!"
"I know what you mean."
"What kind of bastard does things like that!? Is her parents coming over? Are they coming over now?"
"Pretty much, but it doesn't seem like they're mobilising their servants to get their family back."
"Is that all you know?"
"Yeah. You're going to have to go back if you want to hear more details." Seeing that her tone didn't seem that bothered, he realised that these freeloaders didn't care if anything happened there.
"…Fuck." He wanted to get back now and sort things out. There was a lot on his mind right now.
Time felt like it was creeping while things went by.
The gullible Beastkin gave him a congratulations while sending him with Velma, who was nervous on whether the people there would find out that the landlord they brought was a 'fake' to patch things.
Events flashed by pretty fast.
Holy Progenitor, Sebastian, Hyuk and Lucia came to welcome him back… even if it wasn't necessary.
There was one question on their mind when Velma left, something they waited to hear until the end.
Adam took a deep breath…
Even without being able to see whether they were around him or not, he spoke about what happened.
The things he saw and experienced back there.
When his story was done, none of them could find any way to describe the shock in their hearts.
Holy Progenitor was the first to speak: "Sorry…"
Everything had started from his actions, and Adam became close to slapping the man out of spite.
He'd lost so much thanks to his thoughtless acts…!
But after having went through so much, he decided not to hold a grudge towards his 'family members'.
"…It's fine." These words came out with great difficulty, and he moved onto the next one.
"I didn't know Lumina was some sort of split ego of yours. I'd have treated her better if I could." Sebas was referring to that incident he'd almost killed the female split ego of himself out of pure suspicion.
The gamer merely nodded back.
And the last on the list was Kang Hyuk, who stuttered a little after finding out what happened.
As well as the fact the gamer had heard about the incident he caused back at the church with Lucia.
"Errr… They started it first:" The Harem King tried to push things aside, but that didn't work much.
"I heard you shouted you're gay in public."
"I hade a reason for that."
"Don't care. I'm not playing house anymore. If they want her back, we are letting her go back home."
"B-but…"
"I'm not gonna repeat myself. What right do we have to keep her here?" These words hit hard.
Even Lucia couldn't say anything to this.
Adam couldn't see their expressions, but he was sure they were disappointed with his conclusion.
But there was nothing he could do about it.
'What family…?' The words of Terran rang out in his head. That a family came in all sorts of forms.
But he knew nothing about any of that.
'Maybe I should help them a little…' Adam wasn't sure what to say to them, but he knew one thing.
This place was his home.
His people were here. Whether he liked them or not, Adam at least put a shred of faith in them.
Except Simon…
Fuck him.
Seeing that the surroundings turned quiet, Adam decided now was the time to memorise the area.
He needed to be able to live life here on his own.
With each step he took, the silence only grew more lonely. Like they couldn't say anything towards him.
Did they finally acknowledge his authority here?
Little did he knew that they had been following him to make sure he didn't fall while making his way up.
Lucia cleared away some of the random pillows that had been thrown about and candy wrappers.
Holy Progenitor to find a way to heal his condition.
Sebastian was ready to catch him if he fell.
And Hyuk was looking through his connections he'd made. His thoughts different from the rest.
What was the best way to get a guy to open up?
Find them a soulmate!
Since Adam would be busy trying to get himself comfy, they needed to do their part to care for him.
With his permission, of course.
They didn't talk to each other, but split in different ways to care for their now blind and mortal friend.
All of them hyped themselves to protect him.
