"Enter" said Pete as he looked up from some files that he was going through as he heard a knock on his office door.
"Sorry to disturb you Boss" said Morales as he walked into Pete's office and he closed the door behind him.
"That's fine Morales, tell me, what do you have for me?" asked Pete as he gestured that Morales sit down across him, which he did.
"Well nothing much Boss, I am afraid that it is bad news" said Morales as he sighed.
"How bad?" asked Pete as he looked at Morales, he could tell that it was serious.
"Well I did as you asked me to, and I tried to track down who the anonymous person that sent us the tip of Mrs. White's flight, but I could find nothing at all, I tracked the call, but I could not pinpoint the exactly location" said Morales.
"It turns out that the call was from a private number, which is not registered at all, I do not know how that is possible, and when I tried to track the call log, I came to the conclusion that the call did not come from the states, but rather from outside" said Morales.
"Outside where?" asked Pete.
"I was able to narrow it down to Russia" said Morales.
"I see, this is obviously a set up, first we get a call from a private number, giving us information about when the person carrying the drugs would arrive at the airport, that happens to be Natasha, who claims that the suitcase was a gift" said Pete as he sighed, he knew that this had to do with the person who gifted Natasha the suitcase that she refused to tell him about.
"Does she had proof that it actually was a gift? Because you know boss cases like these aren't easy to get clear from, even if she was just an unaware drug mule, she still faces jail time" said Morales.
"I know that Morales, I know, and I am trying my best to push that off, until we gather even evidence in her favour, right not, what he have, is not enough at all" said Pete as he sighed, his mind was racing, he could not even focus on another case, he was trying his best to keep Natasha out of jail.
"Boss, if you ask me, I think it's best if you assign this case to another officer… I feel like this is too close to home for you" said Morales and Pete looked at him.
"Of course it is close to home, even closer than that, I know Natasha, I know her so well that I can vouch for her with my life, I know that she was set up" said Pete.
"Which is why I am not assigning this case to another officer, dead would I be to do that, I am going to make sure that she gets out of this, with a clean name" said Pete as Morales just looked at him.
"Boss, I understand that but… I think that you won't be objective here, you will be biased" said Morales.
"Morales, I will be fine, go get the drug test reports" said Pete.
"Alright Boss" said Morales as he nodded his head and he stood up as he walked out of Pete's office as he closed the door behind him.
Pete sighed as the telephone on his desk rang, and he picked it up as he put the phone to his ear.
"Hello" said Pete.
"Hello Commander, Attorney Jameson is here to see you" came a woman's voice from the other side of the line.
"Send him in" said Pete.
"Alright Commander" said the woman as she nodded her head and Pete dropped the call as he heard a knock on his office door.
"Come in" said Pete as he stood up and a white haired middle aged man walked into his office with a suitcase.
"Ahh Attorney Jameson, Good morning" said Pete as he smiled and the man smiled at him as he shook his hand.
"Good Morning to you too Commander" said Jameson as he smiled.
"Please, have a seat" said Pete as he sat down and he gestured that Jameson do the same as he did.
"You know Commander, I was surprised when I received your call early this morning, not to sound offensive, but you rarely call" said Jameson as he laughed and Pete laughed as well.
"Well James, you know… I'm not always on the wrong side of the law, I am on the right side" said Pete as he laughed.
"That you are Commander, that you are" said Jameson as he smiled.
"So what can I do for you?" asked Jameson.
"You see James, I have a friend, a very close friend, she was recently arrested under the allegations of drug trafficking, drugs were found hidden in her suitcase, I recently got the analysis from the lab, and the drugs are cocaine" said Pete as he explained.
"I see" said Jameson.
"Yes, but the thing is, she denies knowing anything about the drugs, and I believe her, she Is innocent" said Pete.
"Drug mule?" asked Jameson.
"It would seem so" said Pete.
"What about the suitcase where the drugs were found? Does it belong to her?" asked Jameson.
"Well no, she said that it was a gift" said Pete.
"Can she prove that?" asked Jameson.
"Unfortunately not" said Pete.
"Alright, and what about the person who gave her the suitcase as a gift? He or she could testify and say that they gave the gift, which would implicate them, but release your client" said Jameson.
"That's the thing James, my client doubts that we will be able to find the person who gave her the gift, he is back in Russia, and she says that it would be a waste of time to try to find him" said Pete as he himself still did not understand why Natasha did not want to tell him the truth.
"Well it seems to me that your client Is hiding something, we need everything to be laid out plain in order for me to help her" said Jameson.
"I know James, but can we leave that information out? I doubt it truly is necessary" said Pete.
"Alright" said Jameson.
"Okay, and my client, she has no criminal record at all, I am sure that will be able to help her" said Pete.
"Commander, to a degree, it might be able to help her, but highly unlikely" said Jameson.
"How do you mean James?" asked Pete.
"Sure it might be more evidence to back our case up that the client has no criminal record prior to this, but most times, drug mules are first offenders, to the judge doesn't look at that typically" said Jameson.
"Give me an honest idea of what the chances are of winning this case and proving Natasha innocent" said Pete.
"In all honesty commander, it will take a few days for me to gather enough evidence in our favour, and during that time, the law has to go on, she will end up being transferred to a women's prison, until the time for her hearing come" said Jameson.
"Jameson, you have to do something, Natasha cannot go to jail, she is innocent" said Pete.
"I am sorry Commander, I am being honest, jail time is inevitable here, even if she is innocent" said Jameson.
"So what can we do to try to curb this?" asked Pete as he sighed.
"Firstly, I need to meet with the client, get her statement, in order to prove her innocence, she needs to tell me what exactly she was doing in Russia, how long she stayed there, and when she returned, were there any complications? Things like that" said Jameson.
"Alright, I will take you to her right now then" said Pete as he stood up.
"Commander, correct me if I am wrong, but this client, she is very close to you isn't she?" asked Jameson.
"Very, she is like family, and I don't want her in this sort of situation" said Pete.
"I understand Commander, and I will try my absolute best to help to the best of ability" said Jameson.
"Thank you James, thank you, I knew that I can count on you" said Pete as he smiled and Jameson looked at him as he smiled, he knew that he had the best lawyer that he could possibly have on Natasha's case, it made him feel more relieved, since he knew that it was a race against the clock to get all the evidence that they need to prove Natasha's innocence.
"Shall we go now?" asked Pete as he stood up, he did not want to waste any time at all.
"Yes, let us go Commander" said Jameson as he smiled and he stood up as he walked out of Pete's office, and Pete followed after him as he closed the door of his office.
Happy May everyone haha!!
