A hospital volunteer pressed a cup of weak coffee into Jessie's cold hands. The medical staff was still working on Min Jun. So many injuries. Some were more serious than others, but piled one on top of another, Jessie could only imagine his agony. More than anything, she wished she could take away the hurt. But all she could do was wait and trade any goodwill she had built in a lifetime for the chance to someday repay him for even a tenth of what he had gone through for her.
Jessie couldn't drink any more coffee without puking, but the heat from the cup felt good. Shock numbed away everything but the guilt and the worry. The heat was the only thing positive about her life.
