"If something goes wrong, take Mara to Loma and bring Alaric here," Rowan said to Ozul as he walked closer toward the distortion, trying to judge with his liminal vision how close he could get without falling in again.
"It's okay," Mara said from her place of safety. Clearly she thought the decision was up for discussion. "I don't have to go. I'll stay right here in this exact spot just like you told me to. I promise. You might need me."
"Please don't argue with me."
"But I don't want to go with Ozul. I don't even know him." Mara's argument turned to a plea. "I really don't want to leave you. What if something bad happens, and I'm not here? What if…you fall in, and I never see you again?"
Rowan glanced over his shoulder to see her lip trembling. Erebus nuzzled her hand where it hung limp at her side. When she didn't immediately begin petting him again, he leaned up against her legs and let out a quiet whimper.
Oh boy...Wren is going to have so much fun with this little thing he may have uncovered. He is already in my head gloating about all the new dirty talk possibilities. You all know he will do anything for his Caretaker…we’ll see how it goes.
