Sabina continued to watch Brian when eating and it made Brian feel awkward and hard to swallow his food.
"You want to eat too?" Brian asked but Sabina shook her head. Sabina looks still waiting for something from Brian.
"If you don't want to eat, then what do you want? Please speak," Brian asked again in confusion. But still, Sabina shook her head and instead became sullen.
'Oh my gosh, women are hard to predict! Come on, I'm so hungry,' Brian grumbled in his heart and continued to devour the food on his plate.
Brian put spoon after spoonful of food into his mouth and ignored Sabina's expression first.
"Oh my God, this food is so delicious. Thank you, Sabina. You are so cool!" Brian praised. And miraculously, Sabina's smile grew back like before.
'Is she waiting for me to respond to her cooking? Oh my… You're so adorable, Sabina!' Brian said to himself while smiling at the sweet Sabina.
"You learned to cook from your mother? She must be a good housewife and a great cook!" Brian asked and praised Sabina's mother.
Sabina shook her head again. It can be seen that Sabina is currently gloomy even though she is still forcing a smile on Brian.
"My mother is the rector of a public university in this city. But she always made time to cook for us. So I learn to prepare food with my mom every morning," Sabina replied. The look on her face gradually brightened when Sabina told her about her mother.
Brian immediately entered and enjoyed the role of a good listener for Sabina. Brian increasingly wants to know more about Sabina.
"And after I was invited by my friend to this apartment, I learned a lot from the female ghost whom I called Miss K. I learned to hold objects around me from her," continued Sabina.
"Miss K? Don't tell me that she takes the form of a woman with long clothes down and has long dreadlocks?" Brian asked and Sabina immediately smiled while nodding her head, "So how long have you been friends with Kuntilanak?! What are you really, Sabina? You scared me!" continued Brian dumbfounded.
Sabina laughed in amusement in response to Brian's astonished face.
"You're even laughing! Hhhhh…" Brian groaned with a heavy sigh.
"I told you I'm not a ghost, didn't I? But I don't know what I am right now," the smile on Sabina's cheerful face faded as soon as she started talking.
"Well, don't talk about things that will make you sad. I don't want to burden you with a lot of sad things," Brian responded with concern.
"Thank you for slowly understanding. But at least you should also know who my friend is to respect her as the original owner of this place," Sabina replied.
"So you're not the original owner of this place? Then how well and how strong can she be with you and..." said Brian hung his sentence, "And the ghost of that woman..." he continued whispering to Sabina.
Sabina smiled.
"Hmm, yes. She is a good person because she allows me to live with her in this comfortable room. We've never known each other or seen each other before."
"Her name is Tata. She is two years older than me. At first glance, Tata is a sweet girl. Maybe it's because of her thin body that Tata looks older and sluggish."
"When other people can't see me, she can. Looks like she's just like you. You can be called Indigo children, who can see invisible creatures that normal people can't see in general."
"And Tata brought me to this house to live with her."
"Tata is sick. The doctor's diagnosis said that Tata was suffering from end-stage leukemia, and her life was predicted not to belong. What's sadder than her is when Tata is slumped with pain, but at times like that, no one from her family wants to wait and stay to take care of her. But it's all Tata's wish, "
"From what I understand, Tata is the daughter of a rich family. This building also belongs to her family. But she feels her uniqueness in being able to see abstract creatures is something that makes her family ashamed."
"Not once or twice has Tata been ostracized and scolded for making other people say weird things about her and her family. The point is, Tata's family is ashamed and afraid to see Tata and her personality,"
"Because Tata felt that the best thing for everyone was when she was gone, so she asked her parents to give her a room in this building for her to live in. And sadly, her request was even allowed by her parents. I was sad to hear the story of her poor life, even though when she did, she always tried to smile at me. I can feel what it's like to live alone and feel isolated like that."
Sabina smiled sadly after telling a little story about Tata.
"So, just because Tata has such a privilege, she was excommunicated? That's inhumane!" Brian commented, "Who can decide to be born with such circumstances? Can she ask not to be given such a gift from God? One thing I can say. Her family is crazy!" he continued angrily.
"They just don't know what it's like to have the privileges that Tata and I have. If possible, maybe Tata will think like me who doesn't want to be able to see such supernatural things!" Brian still nags.
"Now I know what my father said when I was little. No wonder my father used to say, if I see things or figures that are different from normal humans, I shouldn't tell other people about it. Even my two brothers."
"At first they didn't believe it but because I also responded casually to their expressions, I was only thought to be joking by them. But that was back then when we were little kids. And now they know that sometimes I can see what they can't. Until we are adults like this, my privilege is no longer a strange thing for them or the rest of my family," Brian finished telling the similarities between his life and Tata's life.
"Maybe your family is not a rigid family, unlike Tata's family," Sabina responded, "They come here once a week, even though they know that their child is sick."
"Every two days someone brings Tata's needs here. For example, food and money. So even though Tata can go anywhere when her condition is very severe, her needs are still complete and fulfilled.
"Earlier, when I just arrived here. I was quite scared and shocked when it turned out that Tata had a ghost friend here. But because it was Tata who asked the female ghost to teach me to learn to touch or just move things here, I was able to take care of Tata when she was sick until she died here."
"We don't allow anyone to take Tata's belongings to take with them because I know that Tata's belongings are of no use to them other than to burn."
"Let all the things here be memories of Tata for me. That's why Miss K and I always make trouble when someone wants to rent this apartment room. At least until before you manage to live comfortably here."
Sabina sighed heavily after finishing the life story of Tata, the original owner of apartment room number 42.
"Oh, that's right. Everyone I meet around this building always wonders about my condition after living in this room. They think why I can live in this haunted room. It turned out that the ghost they were talking about was you and…" Brian responded by hanging his sentence and didn't want to mention the female ghost who was there.
"But actually, it's Tata who is more sorry for having to be considered a curious spirit that haunts this place. Tata has calmed down in her place. People think this apartment room is haunted because of your attitude that loves Tata and wants to keep her memories," continued Brian talking about reality.
From the sad look on Sabina's face, Brian felt guilty.
'Have I said too much and gone too far? Sabina immediately lowered her head because of me,' Brian said to himself.
Not long after, a sob could be heard from Sabina and made Brian feel even more guilty. But actually, Brian didn't turn on Sabina at all for all the wrong things that happened there.
"Sabina, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to talk to you like that to blame you. I feel guilty seeing you sad like this," Brian apologized and explained what he meant.
Sabina started to stop her sad crying.
"I'm sad not because of what you said. But you're right. People only know that Tata's spirit haunts this apartment room, but it's not like that…"
Sabina sobbed again after realizing that her actions to scare people who came to the place would only make Tata's name bad.
