Chương 118: Pinisi Ship

The terms pinisi, pinisiq, pinisi' or phinisi refer to the type of sailing system (rig), masts, sails and rope configurations of a type of Indonesian sailing vessel. It was primarily built by the Konjo people, a Makassar sub-ethnic group predominantly in Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi, but is still widely used by the Makassarese people (see also #Common misconceptions about pinisi), mostly for inter-island transportation. , cargo and fishing destinations in the Indonesian archipelago.

UNESCO designated the art of Phinisi shipbuilding as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity at the 12th Session of the Committee on Unique Cultural Heritage on 7 December 2017.
