Chương 2: Getting ready for the wedding

Avia got up from the bed when she heard a knock on the door. She carefully hid the photo she was holding under the pillow and wiped her tears away.

She walked over to the door and opened it. Her mother stood on the other side of the door with a bright smile on her face, she couldn't contain her happiness.

It was her daughter's wedding day. "Hello dear," she greeted getting into the room. Avia just nodded to her, she didn't want to expose the fact that she was crying.

She was afraid that if she opened her mouth then only the wishes of her heart will come out and she didn't want that. It was already too late for her and she simply had to accept that.

She had lost and that was it. "We should get you ready, the awaited hour is approaching," she said cheerfully.

Avia could not even manage a fake smile to fool her mother. She was not happy with the wedding and that was it. Her heart was filled with sorrow, with pains of yearning and regret of her past.

Deep down, she wished that she was born from a poor family. At least poor people chose their life partners and didn't have their lives written out for them until their seventh descendants.

"Come on," her mother ushered and took her to the dressing table. She sat her down on the chair and reached for the comb. "You are going to become a wife today. You could smile a bit," she advised.

Avia looked at her reflection in the mirror. What she saw was him standing there behind her combing her hair as she admired how good he looked doing it.

His sky blue eyes staring at her like she was the only woman on earth never failed to make her heart flutter. She was very happy and excited when he brushed his long fingers in her hair.

His touch ever so gentle and careful not to cause her any pain at all. Not even her mother could match the care and concern from him.

"Avia," her mother called out to her.

She blinked coming back to reality. How she wished that he was real and right there for her. To sweep her off her feet and take her away from there. To save her from the unwanted marriage that she was being forced into by her parents.

She glanced up to her mother. "I have been talking to you for a while now. Are you even listening?"

"Yes mother, I heard you," she said even though she had not heard a single word the woman had said. She was simply lost thinking about Joem.

Her mother arranged her hair in a bun and held it together at the back of her head. She attached a butterfly pin to her hair.

Once she was done making her hair, she got the wedding gown from the wardrobe and brought it to her. It was a long off shoulder white satin gown with split on the left. It was specially designed for her to wear on her special day.

But the day and the dress were nothing special to her and she didn't care. The wedding was special to her parents who wanted to see her married off to a rich man like money was the only guarantee for happiness.

If only that were true then her parents would be happily married. Their marriage was an arranged marriage and it never became anything more than that, one would expect them to learn from their experience and not condemn their daughter to the same life as them but no, they couldnt learn.

Avia pressed her lips together looking at the dress, she could imagine seeing Joem waiting for her at the altar. If that were the case then shd would not mind wearing the dress.

"You have to put it on. My daughter is going to be the most beautiful bride today," her mother said happily.

Avia smiled at the statement. It was a typical thing said to all brides on their wedding day. It didn't mean that they were the most beautiful, it was just a polite thing that visitors and family said to make the brode feel special.

"I will be back," she let out and walked into the bathroom to change into the wedding gown. She let down her bathrobe and watched it fall to the ground.

She carefully put on her wedding dress. She was officially a bride, the wedding was real and there was no turning back. She was set to get married to Nathan, the perfect choice her parents could find for her.

Looking at herself, instead of a smile, tears trickled down her eyes. She and Joem had always dreamt of getting married. She had imagined it in her head every single day of her life and she never thought that when the day finally came that she would get married.

It would be to another man. Her heart squeezed in pain, the pain reflected in her eyes. She was the saddest bride in the world on her own wedding day. She could only see sadness and suffering waiting for her at the altar in form of a groom.

Her wiped her tears away. Grabbed the hems of her dress and made her way back to the room, she forced a smile on her face. She felt miserable but that didn't mean that she should advertise her unhappiness to the world.

She stood before her mother her white gown. She looked so beautiful that her mother was left speechless. She couldnt say a single thing about her daughter. Her eyes teared as she saw her daughter standing before her in her wedding gown.

"I take it that I look good," Avia let out. She truly couldn't stand being in that dress for a single second but she played it off as she loved the dress.

"You look gorgeous dear," her mother finally spoke. She took a step closer to her and gave Avia a big hug. The day had been awaited for a long time and it was finally here. "I will cherish this day forever," she said.

Avia felt like breaking down and crying. Her mother was planning to remember a day that was the saddest of her life. The worst day of her life, she considered something worth remembering forever.

It was truly sad, the person who gave her life and should protect her. That very person was sacrificing her and smiling as she did so. Taking her love from her and giving her someone that she didn't even like let alone love.

It wasn't possible to choose one's family and that had been her deepest regret since childhood. She was born into a family that valued money more than happiness and was forced into the tradition against her will.

She blinked her tears away and smiled. She had Joem's memories to keep her company for the rest of her life, it didn't matter what awaited her. His memories could get her through anything. Knowing that he was somewhere around the world, continuing to love her as much as he did gave her comfort.

As long she could never stop loving him and he her then she would be fine.

She sat back down at her dressing table and wore her jewelry to finish her look. The ancestral jewelry brought out her beautiful hazel eyes. And made her look even more beautiful.

"I will go and tell everyone that you are ready," she said to her. Her mother kissed her forehead before exiting the room.

Avia was left alone with her thoughts once more. She smiled recalling the day she first met Joem. It was magical and something that she vowed never to forget.

Lost in her thoughts, she failed to notice the figure that was entering the room through the window. The male that had just walked into the room froze on the spot seeing how beautiful she looked in her wedding gown.

With the bright smile on her face, she looked like an angel that had just landed from the sky. He took a moment to admire her beauty, once he had enough of watching her, he looked away.

It pained him to watch her smiling so much for someone else. The thought of how happy she was to get married to another man, pierced his heart and left a mark in his heart.

He cleared his throat to get her attention. Avia looked up in the mirror. The person she saw caused her heart to almost stop beating. Her eyes widen with shock, the one she was thinking of had appeared right before her.

The man's appearance was cold and aloof. He stared at her with untold emotions running in his eyes.

Avia stood up from her seat and turned around, she was filled with disbelief if he was really there or if she was imagining it. It couldnt be that after four years, he would just show up in front of her like that.

"Jo...Joem," she said her voice breaking.
