Chương 15: War of Retaliation IV – Offensive

As soon as the horses' footsteps were heard, all of the troops in the camp got alert and prepared to battle.

They raised their shields and spears, their gazes fixed on the dust that had covered their eyesight. They noticed a lot of shadows behind the dust.

Voran awoke from his rest as soon as the noise began. He who has learned anything new about his body's power quickly puts it into practice.

He ran out of his tent to investigate the disturbance as the soldiers were making needless noise. Of course he didn't forget his weapon; otherwise, he'd be a fool.

As he watched his forces return from the fight, Voran was shielded by soldiers such as Veus and Werder Sian.

Voran did not look away or adjust his expression when he saw the troops' state, which was shabby and coated with blood and a foul odor.

He was entirely calm, except for the fact that several soldiers returned with missing limbs, which enraged him.

"What happened to them, Veus?" Voran frowned significantly as he enquired about the soldiers' condition, which appeared scruffy and as if they had been through hell.

"Your Majesty, our plans have exceeded our expectations. We expect a circumstance where the opposing party is fatigued from the long travel and is in the process of creating a resting area when I tell them to come forward and function as vanguard troops. We'll take advantage of the circumstance and launch an assault on him. The forces we deployed, on the other hand, not only failed to meet the situation, but also came across a group of soldiers numbering in the thousands who were ready to battle."

Veus felt both irritated and remorseful for not taking the issue into account. He proceeded as soon as he took a breath and paused.

"Then it's not simply their soldiers who are comparable to the forces we dispatched. The main issue was that they were led by Mival Belloc, also known as 'The Brigadier of Death.' One of the most dangerous generals in the army. Our forces will have to confront them head-on. I'm not sure whether this is good or bad luck. Our forces were able to return here after surviving that bloody combat."

Voran nodded and told the returning men they needed to rest, recover, and treat their wounds.

He hadn't anticipated this situation, and he hadn't anticipated the opponent sending a vanguard that was significantly more powerful than his.

Even though they had only been there for a day, their strength had already been sapped. This isn't a promising sign. Voran raised his eyes to the blue sky. In the evening, the combat took place.

"This is proving to be far more difficult than I had imagined. How strong will their main force be if they send a general into battle as a vanguard leader?"

Voran twirled his fingers and clicked his tongue. For the first time in his life, Voran felt the pressure of the battlefield.

"Is this just a ruse? To hide their dominance, they sent a strong and dangerous figure? Do you expect my side to believe they have more and stronger power than I do? Is it true that they have so much power? This is perplexing... Wait a minute, were they just trying to fool me and confuse my side?" Voran couldn't help but feel perplexed and concerned about his current circumstance.

The opposition's actions were too unclear and unquantifiable. There were far too many possibilities in the moves he took, and Voran did not believe they were hasty or made without good reason.

It seemed inconceivable for such a seasoned and elderly general to commit such a blunder.

Voran was immersed in his thoughts and speculations concerning Selek Valaunter's actions. In front of him, Veus chastised him.

"Your Majesty, what is it? You don't look too hot, do you? Take it easy, Your Majesty. What you believe may or may not come true. I'm not sure what you're thinking right now, but when it comes to what happened, I'm not sure what you're thinking. Selek Valaunter, I can tell you something. He'll do everything he can to obliterate his opponent and leave him with nothing!"

Selek Valaunter, on the other hand, had a large smile on his face when he heard news of his forces from one of the scouts he deployed.

Despite the fact that he was unable to destroy his opponent, he believed that his troops were performing admirably. Mival Belloc's presence, of course, was the difference that altered the battle's overall outcome.

"Those soldiers aren't the main force. What exactly are they up to? Giving a high-ranking position to a noble family and its troops? Why would they take such a step if they didn't think the vanguard was underestimating them? What is the true goal?"

Valaunter was uneasy, despite the fact that he had the upper hand in the duel. He even doubted the scenario, despite the fact that he smiled when the news arrived.

As soon as Valaunter received word of the combat, he convened all military officers. He didn't want to lose out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Initially, he had dispatched Mival Belloc as the vanguard's commander to observe the situation and assess the state of the terrain they would fight on.

Despite the fact that he already knew how the Plain of Venus was doing, he needed to keep it up to date. Especially when they were about to get into a confrontation.

Understanding the terrain conditions in which the battle takes place can be crucial in the conflict itself.

When Voran's army was nearly destroyed and the occurrence was witnessed by the nobles, he did not hide his displeasure. He noticed it but didn't give it much thought, instead calling Veus to his tent.

Even if it was merely the pinnacle of a mountain, he had already seen how capable the opposing team was. However, Voran learned several things from this experience, including the fact that the aristocrats who had joined the vanguard army had returned safely and without major injuries, unlike the soldiers under his command.

Voran removed his mask once they were inside the tent and smiled instead of the annoyed expression on his face when he was in front of his warriors.

He sighed and tapped his finger on the table as he sat down. "They did well, Veus." Even if we are at a loss, this situation is not out of the ordinary for me. Those nobility, however, resembled insects. It is difficult to eliminate them. So, when the war intensifies and the two big nations collide. Send them to the formation's most vulnerable and deadly area!! They have to vanish. Find fault if there are still survivors. "I'll put it into action!"
