"Survival Island. It's a name befitting itself as here, only the strong survive. Although the entire world has this philosophy to some extent, here on Survival Island it is a law. This place is cutthroat and unforgiving, and will swallow you whole in less than a second if you're unprepared." Dragon paused for a moment, letting the words sink in. For the 3 listeners, raging amounts of fear, apprehension and determination battled for supremacy.
"On this Island you will find the best of the best. Animals of all different species, shapes and sizes live here, and have managed to adapt and survive in this environment. This is the accumulation of over 30 years of infighting, and only the strongest can survive here."
"If you cannot adapt and survive, then you will die." Dragon stated. The 3 teenagers hid it well, but they all had slightly downtrodden looks. They knew they were severely outclassed, and it hurt them. Even Sabo, who was known for his upbeat mood, looked melancholy.
'Knowing it's a losing battle. They all have brilliant intuition…but they must do this.' Dragon thought.
"So we are going to be staying here?" August raised his hand. He already knew the answer to this question, but he felt like asking anyway. He hoped for a miracle.
Dragon let out a rare chuckle, "Until you become the Kings of this Island, you will stay here. However, as you are right now, you stand zero chance at fighting one of these beasts alone, that's why I want you to learn something that will help you survive here."
"On top of trying to survive, you want us to learn something? We will have no chance." Liam cried.
"That's precisely the reason why. It will come to you much quicker if you are fighting tooth and nail everyday to live. Only in these types of situations can you learn and improve this power. When your blood is pumping across your body, when your head is pounding and your body is screaming in agony…that's when this power blooms the most."
"This power…What's it's name?" Sabo questioned with a inquisitive look.
"Haki." Liam and Sabo had equalling amounts of confusion, while August pretended to be confused. On the surface he looked just as confused as the others, but his inside thoughts were completely different.
'Finally I get to learn Haki!'
Over the years August had always tried to learn Haki on his own, but he could never succeed. Many nights were spent getting Sabo to push throwing bags towards him while blindfolded, but he could never unlock it.
To Sabo, he looked like he had gone nuts, and Sabo took advantage of that and made fun of him for it anytime August bought up Koala.
After repeating this process, August eventually gave up and realised he probably needed to actually be in some form of danger to awaken haki, rather than in the comfort of his own home.
'But why is fighting animals to awaken Haki always an option?' August thought, remembering how Rayleigh trained Luffy. He mentally shook his head and disregarded the thought, turning back to the conversation where Dragon had just begun speaking again.
"It's name is Haki. Now I'm sure you wouldn't like me to talk your ears off explaining Haki, and I think a demonstration in this case works best, I even have a volunteer to help me."
On cue to Dragon's word, a large sound echoed in the distance, attracting the attention of everyone in the vicinity. On the horizon, a large Lion on all fours made itself known to the humans.
The Lion was completely covered with blood and cuts that released a pungent smell. A brave animal tried to attack this…beast, but the sheer speed and power of the Lion made it useless as the animal exploded into bits.
*ROARRRR*
The Lion showed no visible reaction to the extra blood that coated his mane, instead letting out a terrifying roar which launched a shockwave towards Dragon.
"WHAT THE FUCK." Liam screamed as the Lion got closer and closer.
"Holy shit…" Sabo said.
August put a hand above his head, blocking the sunlight from impairing his vision. Now that he finally had a good look at the animal, he noticed something strange.
'His mane…Is blue…And his face…Looks human!' The gears in August's mind suddenly started turning as he tried to recall something.
"That's Avalo Pizzaro! The Corrupt King!" August realised, raising his voice in surprise.
"That is correct." Dragon said, confirming August's words. "There are 3 different types of Haki, and I will show each of you them once. Watch carefully."
"WATCH OUT!" Sabo screamed as the Lion transformed in mid air, turning more human like and growing in height. Still carrying its velocity, the Lion-Human Hybrid swung it's claw in a devastating swipe.
"This is Observation Haki." Dragon closed his eyes, not even facing Avalo as the swing that could pulverise all 3 of them easily was dodged with a single head tilt.
"It grants you…The ability to sense things…On a much deeper level." Dragon said, dodging a flurry of strikes as he spoke, "Because of this…I can dodge attacks…Without even seeing them…By sensing the intent of my opponent."
By now August, Sabo, and Liam were on the edge of their imaginary seats, ingraining every word and every action by Dragon into their brains.
Through the countless battles they fought, they considered their instincts to be quite good, and right now it was screaming at them to pay attention.
Dragon finished dodging a few more swings like it was nothing before moving on.
"Next is Armament Haki…To put it simply…It allows you to summon an invisible armour around yourself…Or even weapons." Liam perked up at this, "This armour can be used to enhance your attacks…or defend yourself from attacks…It is also a counter to devil fruit users…especially Logia, as Haki removes the seemingly invisible intangibility they have."
"So that was it…" Sabo said in realisation.
Dragon dodged another swing from Avalo who had begun showing signs of exhaustion, "Let me show you it firsthand."
Although they couldn't see it, Dragon coated his fist in a black hue. He instantly appeared in front of a shocked Avalo, punching his chest which was covered by a thick layer of fur that was useless in front of Dragon's punch.
"*cough* *cough*" Avalo let out a distorted cough in his hybrid form as he clutched his chest in agony.
"That is Armament Haki. Although you cannot see it yet, my hand is coated in a black substance which allows me to do this."
"Amazing…"
"There is also a third type of Haki called King's haki. Unlike the other types, this Haki cannot be obtained through training, and only one in several million people are born with this type of ability. Those who possess this have the qualities of a King." He looked at August, something Sabo and Liam picked up on.
"Wait…You have it!?" Liam asked, shocked.
"Seriously?" Sabo looked at August like he was a traitor.
August just sighed and shook his head, averting his eyes from his friends. "Yeah…I have it."
""Why didn't you tell us?""
"I saw no reason too, it also never came up. I'm not the type of person to brag."
"Hmph" Sabo grunted, "Yeah right…" He muttered under his breath.
"Watch closely." All heads turned back to Dragon, whose voice demanded them to pay attention.
He took a deep breath, closing his eyes which shot open a moment later.
His eyes danced with thunder, and at Dragon's glare Avalo changed from the monstrous beast to a whimpering puddle of mess.
"This is the Conqueror's Haki, It allows you to force your will onto others. The primary use of this is using it to knock those out with weaker wills, but it can also be used for intimidation." Dragon explained, pointing to Avalo.
"Zoan users typically obtain animalistic instincts and traits with their new powers, so it's only natural for Avalo to act like this when presented with an overwhelming power."
The 3 teenagers stared at Dragon in amazement. How strong was he, if he so effortlessly beat someone of Avalo's calibre?
Dragon appeared in front of Avalo, gripping his head and lifting him up with one arm.
"The hunter becomes the hunted. Goodbye."
Dragon squeezed, and the next moment a bucket of brain matter and blood sprayed everywhere. Dragon dropped his crushed face and looked back towards August, Sabo and Liam.
"Until you become the ruler of this Island, you will stay here and train your Haki. And also…" Dragon paused for dramatic effect, "Try not to die."
"The animals will smell Avalos corpse and come running for their meal, so be prepared." With that a small tornado of wind surrounded Dragon as he teleported away.
Before any of them could speak, the group felt a massive rumble in the ground. Not even a second later, multiple creatures surrounded them as they saw fresh meat.
Before Avalo, many other humans came to this Island to try and reach a breakthrough. Many failed, but some succeeded and became the Kings of this island before leaving. It was for that reason these animals had a particular grudge against humans.
With 3 fresh bags of untrained meat arriving on the Island, the animals would work together and kill these 3 humans before they had the chance to grow into the monsters that previously conquered the island.
This trial would truly test whether the 3 prodigies had the potential to stand against the World Government. If they couldn't beat some animals, then how would they have any chance at overthrowing the rulers of the world?

Would you rather become a pirate who are cruel and considered awful humans, or maybe become a marine who are the same but just do it legally, or maybe become a Revolutionary and fight against the evil of this world
