Chương 15: Segment Fifteen, ‘Dire Straits’
'Dr.Wu's Pov'
"I can hear your concerns quite clearly but this must be done.", continued Dr. Wu as his eyes shift to look at Claire. "If we do not do anything, she will be impossible to stop."
Claire was silent now as she looked at him, her eyes shook with so many emotions.
Lance who was listening to the radio merely glanced at the both of them, and afterwards did he return his gaze onto the road. "So does that mean that we will be looking for another dinosaur?"
"Pull over!" instructed Claire. "If you are serious about finding Blue? Then we need to tell Owen right now!"
Dr. Wu merely nodded, and that was all that it took for Lance to pull over on the side of the road.
The moment that they stopped, did Owen speak up as he was walking to the vehicle, after dismounting from his motorcycle. His voice held both his frustration as well as his confusion. "Why are we stopping?"
Lance was lowering his window down, as Dr. Wu spoke up accordingly to Owen who was still confused. "We need you to find Blue."
"What!?!" exclaimed Owen now. "This is your big plan!"
Claire was watching them talk it out now, while looking at Owen. The look on her face said it all, due to her understanding how Owen felt about Blue.
Dr. Wu who was oblivious to this merely continued, after all his focus was on stopping a dangerous hybrid. "We will be needing all the help that we can get! Besides Blue will no doubt help us find the hybrid in case she runs away!"
Owen had a firm look upon his features as he thought about it, he was even biting his lower lip somewhat. There was no doubt that Owen still cared for Blue, even after all of this time.
Lance looked at the radio the moment he heard something of importance. It was then that a voice on the radio caught their complete attention. The sound of angered roaring upon metal, was a dead giveaway in the background of the voice.
"Be advised we caught her!"
"Target has been captured!?! I repeat! She has been captured!?!"
The voices of the soldiers were as clear as day, which took all of them by surprise. They actually in someway captured her, and it made them wonder what they did to accomplish such a feat.
Owen was silent as he listened to the radio, before speaking. "Fine."
Lance looked at him in question now. "Do you happen to know where Blue is?"
Owen looked in the general direction where the manor was located, and his face showed that he was thinking very seriously on this. "Last I saw her was at the manor? If we retrace our steps, we can pinpoint her location?"
"Very well. Lead the way." professionally spoke Dr. Wu. "The quicker we find her, the quicker we can stop this hybrid."
Shaking his head, Owen was making his way back to his motorcycle.
Lance watched Owen return to his motorcycle, he then rolled up his window as he said. "He seemed against the idea at first?"
Dr. Wu looked at the side as he watched Owen turn on his motorcycle. "I believe he cares about that velociraptor still?"
Lance waited for Owen to go ahead of him on the road, and once he was did he follow him. "Oh yeah?"
Dr. Wu nodded, "Yes. He actually raised her if I do recall?"
Lance let out a bit of laughter, he seemed rather surprised that Owen did that. "You learn something new everyday!"
As the both of them continued their conversation, Claire was on full alert as she listened to the radio. Dr. Wu was not like Owen, and it vastly showed in his conversation with Lance. Owen was more aware of the animals feelings, along with their instincts. He understood them in that regard.
While he lacked in that skill.
If you could actually call it a skill?
Dr. Wu was more focused on his work, as well as perfecting it. He knew how long it would take for one egg to hatch and so on. That was honestly all that he did. Hell he was proud of his work!
Now thinking about it more, he made a creature with both Indominus Rex DNA and the Indoraptor. He crossed that line, and didn't even think twice about it either. The scientist actually made something that was unlike anything that anyone has ever seen. Once more, he successfully changed the code!
So to speak.
But there was no doubt as well that Owen thinks of him as a madman now.
The anger that Owen expressed earlier when he had told him about the hybrid and what she was made of, was quite obvious. Dr. Wu in someway understood that anger, and perhaps that anger could help them in stopping a bloodthirsty animal right now.
Claire who was listening to them talk, finally said something. "Owen knows more about these animals, more so than their creator."
Her words were quite honest, as well as they were sharp in tone. From what he gathered was that Claire was speaking in Owen's defense, but her tone of voice said otherwise.
"Oh? You didn't know anything about them either? If I remember correctly? You didn't even care about them as well?" replied Dr. Wu while he watched the motorcycle in front of them. "Didn't you show off the Indominus Rex, and only cared about it due to it being an important asset?"
His words definitely struck a nail with her, for she looked at him sharply. "Are you blaming me for what happened!?!"
Claire was glaring at him now, and she kept her eyes on him. He knew this for he felt her eyes bore into him without having to look at her, "In someway it is your fault. I merely did what you all asked of me."
Lance blinked in surprise to this, his voice also gave it away. "Wait!?! Seriously!"
Claire looked at the both of them in surprise, and as she did this did Dr. Wu look at her from over his shoulder. It was not long until she spoke up. "Okay yes! I know what I did but I learned so much since then! I changed okay!"
Lance was listening to her, it wasn't long until he smiled. "You're that lady? That Ms. Dearing!?!"
Claire sighed at Lance before nodding, though she gave Dr. Wu a firm glare afterwards.
"Yes that is her." replied Dr. Wu professionally.
Lance somewhat laughed, he seemed to be impressed. "How about that! It is a small world! Wow that must of sucked huh? To lose the park?"
Dr. Wu closed his eyes silently, so he could ignore the look that he was getting from Claire. Lance's voice which was still directed at Claire, continued. "Wait? Indominus Rex?"
Claire heaved another sigh, her gaze was now on Lance. "It was another hybrid, which Blue fought against as well."
"Wow! So is Blue a super animal then?" asked Lance who seemed very interested as he kept his gaze on the road.
"No. She is a normal velociraptor but she did have help against the Indominus Rex." replied Claire who still remembers what happened at the park. "Blue and the T-rex both took on the Indominus, up until the Mosasaurus finished her off."
Lance looked at Claire in a glance, and his face said it all. "That's crazy! You saw all that!?!"
Dr. Wu was silent now as they talked, his eyes which were open now was focused on the radio the entire time. His mind was thinking up a plan, a good plan that will stop his hybrid dinosaur once and for all.
If however Blue could not stop this hybrid on her own, then he may need to remember this conversation. For future reference. But the only problem with that is, how would he go about getting the T-rex. Let alone using the Mosasaurus against her.
He will have to hope that Blue can do the job on her own. She has too.
The conversation between Lance and Claire went on, up until shrill cries on the radio interrupted them. These cries were that of soldiers who were experiencing their early but gruesome deaths.
"TARGET HAS- ARGHHH!?!"
"AHHHHH!?!"
"SHOOT HER!?! SHOOT HER NO...AHHHH!?!"
The look on their faces at this moment were so similar to the other, yet so defined in detail. All three of them were feeling the fear and helplessness that the soldiers were going through.
At this very moment.
Lance hastily turned up the volume on the radio now, and it was clear that he wanted to hear everything.
"I-I thought that they caught her..?" spoke up Claire. Her eyes were shaking, much like the rest of her body. She was scared, they all were deep down.
"She must of escaped? No doubt that she saw a weakness somewhere?" replied Dr. Wu. Truth be told at this moment that he was scared. This predator that he has made was just that cunning from other creatures, that she would exploit every weakness that she saw. He knew this already.
Claire looked at him now, with a stunned look before speaking up quite seriously. "Just how much smarter will she get? Tell me everything about her right now!"
Dr. Wu looked at her silently before returning his eyes on the radio, the cries from the soldiers continued on along with the unique vocalization of his hybrid in the background.
Closing his eyes did he decide to tell her what she wants to know, "I believe she is much smarter than any other hybrid that I have ever made. She has a complex mind as well, no other creature has a mind like hers. She remembers things, very quickly."
Claire looked at him surprised. "Wait? A complex mind?"
"Yes. I designed it that way. Her brain is far more intelligent than that of a velociraptor." nodded Dr. Wu. "Her mind is equipped to remember and memorize things. Since I made her to be a weapon so that she could be sold, I made it so that she can remember orders and commands. But things didn't go as planned, she used her intelligence against me."
"Oh my god..." whispered Claire with wide eyes. "What have you done...!"
Lance glanced at Dr. Wu now with a pale expression, "Well you succeeded in the making a weapon part! Now she is going wipe us all out!?! Good going!?!"
"I had to do something! I couldn't use Blue so I had to change everything!?!" retorted Dr. Wu.
Claire's features were very uncomfortable now, as she hugged herself. "If you used the Indominus Rex DNA then...does that mean she can camouflage?"
"Huh!?!" gasped Lance now. "What do you mean camouflage!?! Are you telling me that she can blend into her environment as well!?!"
Dr. Wu could feel the tension in the vehicle now, the more he tells them about her and what his data had told him. Though he didn't have his data on him now thanks to the military, so all that he could go by was basically estimates.
But these estimates were not far from the truth.
This animal which was professionally designed by him, was made to be the perfect weapon. She was supposed to be sold off for money to fix his debts, but what happened was that she used her mind. She actually tapped into it very quickly, without him knowing.
How else did she escape so efficiently?
Oddly enough he was feeling proud, he actually made a weapon. A living and breathing weapon, smarter than any genius!
Dr. Wu felt like smiling after finding out such an achievement, but he kept it hidden from Lance and Claire. "Yes. She can camouflage herself."
The tension that was inside of the vehicle before, became greater. It was almost like that tension sucked any kind of warmth out from the vehicle, and replaced it with a bone chilling cold as Dr. Wu continued.
"She will be a head taller than the prototype Indoraptor when fully grown, and her intelligence will basically double more than it is now. Everything that she has experienced, she will remember and memorize. She will literally be unstoppable after all that she has experienced from facing the military."
There was an intense silence within the vehicle that they were in after he had finished talking, Dr. Wu was looking ahead now as that pride within him grew. He has actually done something that many would dream of.
No one has ever made a living breathing weapon before, for he was the first to accomplish such a feat.
Claire made a light sound of disgust, and he knew why she had made such a sound. She probably thinks that he is crazy, just like Owen who thinks of him as insane.
Lance had such a clouded expression now, he was constantly shaking his head in pure bewilderment. Dr. Wu who was silent now, looked at Lance curiously.
After a moment did he say something, while ignoring the feeling within the vehicle. Which he caused. "Now do you understand why we must hurry to stop her? The longer that she is free and experiences things, it will be simply impossible to stop her."
"I get it! It is just...crazy!" groaned Lance.
"That is understandable." replied Dr. Wu.
Claire who was silent as well, shook her head with a troubled expression. She even gave him another hard glare afterwards. "When we are done with this hybrid, Owen and I are going to have a very serious talk with you!"
"Very well." nodded Dr. Wu who had his eyes closed.
With those words shared, did they continue to follow after Owen in their search for Blue.
'Sable's Pov'
The sounds of terror and fear were all around her now. Just this feeling, made her feel complete. She was the alpha predator against these humans.
Sable will not be stopped, and she will not be contained. Not again.
These humans who had thought that they had won earlier against her, faced both her claws and teeth. Those who had suffered such a gruesome fate earlier, laid all around her upon the ground.
Many voices and sounds of moving vehicles were everywhere, along with screaming and running footsteps. Sable was unleashing her wrath, while so many soldiers ran around her.
In their desperate attempt at trying to capture her again.
The steel cage that had confined her mere moments ago, had a badly damaged door. That metal door was barely hanging on by one hinge.
"WHAT DO WE DO!?!"
"KEEP GOING!?! THAT'S AN ORDER!?!"
These voices held both frustration and fear, for these soldiers didn't know what to do now. They were struggling to stop her, and she knew it.
However her eyes became thin slits, the moment she saw a soldier who had a hold of that foul smelling object.
"I HAVE AN IDEA!?!"
Yelled the soldier with a gas grenade, and after saying these words did he throw the grenade. The moment that it was thrown, did Sable quickly turn and ran away while releasing a loud cry. She did not like this thing that the humans had.
That foul thing made her eyes burn, while messing with her sense of smell.
Swiftly did Sable run into the darkened woods behind her, as her roaring cry melted into the darkness of the woods.
"MOVE!?! MOVE!?! MOVE!?!"
The soldiers voices followed after her, for they had a plan. A plan that she was actually oblivious to.
Sable ran forward while crushing and snapping any branch and bush that was in her way, due to her size and strength. She stopped however once she was inside some kind of field. Though she didn't know what kind of field, the humans knew it.
For it was a corn field.
Moving very slowly on all fours, did Sable hear voices and the loud sounds of the vehicles that the humans used for transportation.
It would seem that the humans didn't expect a field of corn to be here.
"Where did she go?"
"Remain vigilant!"
"Make no doubt, she is out here."
The voices and the subtle sounds of leaves being disturbed, gave away the soldiers positions. Not that they were aware of it yet.
Lights which were planted on the soldiers weapons, could be seen clearly from the top of the corn field. For it was still dark outside. However it wouldn't be to much longer until the sun was to rise.
Sable heard the sounds coming from each footstep, and she could see the lights from where she was. It was then that she realized, the humans could not see her all that well due to the tall plants.
This realization made her mind purr.
She would remember this.
"Do you see anything!"
"Nothing over here!"
Slowly she creeped in closer while staying low to the ground, her clawed right hand reached out slowly once she was close to a soldier who was not expecting it. She quickly grabbed his head and pulled him to her hastily. So that he didn't make a sound.
"Do you see her?"
"I found a gun!?! We are missing one!"
"Where...!?!"
Grabbing another soldier who was talking to his colleagues, Sable was quick to end his life. Her eyes became slits again, as she heard fast movements and very loud voices.
"GET OUT OF THE CORN FIELD!?!"
"GO!?! GO!?! GO!?!"
They were panicking and she knew it. She loved sensing their fear.
One of the soldiers ran right into her, for he didn't expect it but he screamed loudly at what he saw. Her body which was blended into the corn field, could be barely seen thanks to the moon slowly going over her. "SHE CAN CAMOUFLAGE!?! ARGHHH!?!"
Sable lunged at him without remorse, her body tackled him cruelly. His neck and chin were within her deadly jaws, her strength behind the bite was so great.
That it broke his neck instantly.
After finishing him off, did she get blinded suddenly by another helicopter which flew above her. The corn stalks were moving away from her, thanks to the helicopter blades and great wind that it gave off.
Shifting away from the flying vehicle, Sable ran out of the corn field with the helicopter right behind her.
"TARGET IS ON THE MOVE!?! BE ADVISED!?!"
The loud sound of the helicopter echoed out above her as she kept running away from the helicopter.
So vast the sounds were behind her, for she knew that she was being followed by more man made vehicles.
These humans were very persistent, but so was she.
'Dr. Wu's Pov'
The sound of the radio was the main sound in the vehicle now, for they heard everything that the soldiers were going through.
Lance was still following after Owen, though his face was full of dread at this moment. Those soldiers had just now discovered that the hybrid could indeed camouflage.
It was so foreboding, as well as it was foreshadowing.
After all they were talking about how this animal could camouflage, not to long ago.
"We need to find Blue." firmly stated Lance. "We have to for the sake of everyone else."
Claire nodded at him, her voice was firm and serious. "We will stop her! I am sure of it!"
Lance and Claire were so certain that they could stop this deadly hybrid together with Owen. But what they didn't notice was the pride that Dr. Wu felt at this very moment.
The scientist was so blind to his accomplishment, to care about what was happening to the soldiers who had lost their lives.
No one could do what he does. That he was sure of.
He would remember this day, and once they have stopped this hybrid. Dr. Wu was going to make another one, and this time he would make the perfect weapon. That could be sold.
