Carlo stepped into the conversation. “I filed claims with the three insurance companies today. I’m sure they’ll settle well before the criminal trial.” Carlo’s eyes went to the station’s door.
“Well, let’s get in there and get this done.”

The desk sergeant called the two detectives handling the case to the front of the station and they took Bobby and Keith to an interview room. Jake, Davey, and Carlo followed. One of them, Detective Sullivan, handed Bobby a legal pad.
Keith said, “This is Bobby’s lawyer, Jake Cohen, Jake’s husband and paralegal, Davey Cohen, and Giancarlo DelMonte, who is taking care of the civil suit. They’ll sit in for the statement.” Detective Sullivan left the room to get more chairs.
He came back with two uniformed officers carrying three metal bridge chairs. The door closed and left them all in the room.
