“Little shit.” And then he backhanded Nolan across the mouth and Nolan tasted blood as he bit his tongue. “Clean up the living room. I’ve got a city council meeting to go to tonight.”
His father finished his beer, slammed the bottle down on the counter so hard Nolan was surprised it didn’t break, and then left the kitchen. He heard the rumble of his father’s voice as he spoke to Sally, and then he waited until the front door closed behind them before he finally got to his feet. Nolan rinsed his mouth, then went to the living room, peering out the window to see that the SUV was gone.
Nolan turned to survey the mess his father and his latest girlfriend had made when they’d screwed on the couch. There were semen stains on the green material. He didn’t want to clean it. He wanted to go upstairs, change clothes, and go out for the night to a club in the next city where nobody knew him.
