Chương 120: Meeting Uma again

Charlize looked at Uma Thurman standing in the backlight. Today, Uma was also dressed up for the Halloween party. She wore a red vest with navy blue star-patterned hot pants, red knee-high boots, and her long black hair freely cascaded down. She complemented her outfit with a golden headband, resembling the costume of Wonder Woman.

Uma's attire was not of inferior quality. It perfectly hugged her body curves as if tailor-made. It not only showcased Uma's beautiful figure but also exuded a heroic and confident aura that perfectly matched the essence of Wonder Woman. Even Charlize, as a woman herself, couldn't help but be amazed.

The splendid orange lights behind her illuminated the night, turning the campus entrance into a grand stage. Uma shone brightly, as if a scene from a comic book had come to life in reality.

Looking down at her own all-black attire as Delores Umbridge, Charlie realized that it was the best costume to conceal all the advantages of a woman. Even her orange high heels were no longer eye-catching. Charlize retracted her feet, hiding them under her robe.

Upon hearing Charlize's words, Hugo had to shift his gaze away from her face and turned around to see Uma standing nearby. "Hey! What are you doing here?" Hugo greeted politely.

"Party, what else?" Uma pointed at her own attire, smiling. "I was actually about to leave because I didn't know many people here and it wasn't that exciting. But unexpectedly, I ran into you."

"This is Leonardo, and this is Charlize, my friends," Hugo quickly started introducing the two people beside him. Uma shook hands with them, and then Leonardo gave Hugo a signal with his eyes and said, "Hugo, Charlize and I need to go find... find Jeremy. We'll head out first." With a suggestive look, Leonardo left, laughing to himself. It was evident that he was satisfied with the progress.

Charlize didn't hesitate and nodded at Uma with a smile, then quickly walked away with Leonardo without looking back. However, Uma's voice still reached them from behind, "Your costume is truly magical." Charlize hastened her steps, and the sound gradually dissipated in the wind. Leonardo frequently turned around, still chuckling, showing his approval of the situation.

"Masquerade, you know, appearance is the most important. Everything else can take a backseat," Hugo said through Uma's shoulder, glancing at the retreating figures of Charlize and Leonardo. But he quickly averted his gaze because Uma was talking to him, and getting distracted would be impolite. "Don't you think my outfit is like a direct copy from a comic book?" Hugo seemed quite satisfied with his costume.

"Are you serious? Is this what Flash's outfit looks like? It's not how I remember it!" Uma obviously also read comics, so her expression was as serious as it could be.

"You should take a look at my friend who dresses up as Spider-Man," Hugo widened his eyes and said, "Compared to him, I'm already much, much better." His exaggerated expression immediately made Uma burst into laughter.

Looking at Uma's charming and smiling face, her emerald eyes shimmering in the darkness, her open and honest gaze with a hint of shyness directed at Hugo's eyes, his smile faltered for a moment. His gaze involuntarily shifted towards the bustling crowd behind them. It seemed that some people were playing a beer relay race on the playground—a giant beer barrel with a tap installed, and participants had to drink from the hose. The scene was lively.

"Um, would you like to have a drink together?" Hugo redirected his gaze towards Uma, wearing a smile as he extended an invitation.

The smile on Uma's lips bloomed like a night-blooming cereus, releasing a captivating fragrance. "I thought you wouldn't ask."

This made Hugo feel somewhat embarrassed. It seemed Uma had been waiting for Hugo to make a move for quite some time. Hugo bit his lower lip and nodded slightly. "My mistake. Making a lady wait is not a gentlemanly act." Uma had mentioned earlier that she was planning to leave, but now she didn't bring it up again. The hint was so obvious that Hugo couldn't possibly miss it.

Hugo and Uma walked side by side across the playground. Leonardo, who was in the middle of the crowd, seemed to notice Hugo's passing. He lifted his head and made eye contact with Hugo, revealing a meaningful smile. This left Hugo feeling somewhat helpless.

In the midst of the boisterous party, finding a quiet place to chat was not easy. However, finding a place to share two beers was not a difficult task. Looking at the various eccentric costumes around, it felt like a time travel experience. For example, the lady sitting to the right of Hugo was dressed as a seductive Catwoman, holding a whip in her hand. It was a pity that she weighed around 180 pounds, and Hugo admired the durability of her outfit. Sitting diagonally across from Uma was someone dressed as Don Quixote, and in the darkness, it was impossible to tell if the sword he held was real or fake.

"How have you been lately?" Hugo raised his voice to ask.

"What?" Uma furrowed her eyebrows, clearly not hearing clearly. The deafening music indoors pounded their eardrums, forcing everyone to shout in order to converse.

Hugo leaned forward, and Uma followed suit. It was only then that Hugo asked again, "I said, have you been filming lately?"

"No, I've been taking a break," Uma shouted into Hugo's ear. "You know, I'm not the kind of in-demand actress." Uma self-mockingly spoke, and from the corner of his eye, Hugo could see Uma raising her eyebrow slightly, with a hint of mockery in the corner of her eyes. "What about you?"

"Promotion!" Hugo shouted back. He could even feel the veins on his nose bulging.

Uma didn't say anything but shrugged her shoulders, lightly tapping her own head with the beer bottle in her left hand, as if saying, "Sorry, I forgot." The recent promotional campaign for "Scent of a Woman" was not particularly intense, but it still stood out in the cool autumn season.

"I didn't expect you to know someone from the crew," Hugo yelled into Uma's ear. Uma had always been a film actress, not closely connected to television, so it was quite a surprise to see her at the "Growing Pains" party today.

"Timing!" Uma replied concisely, meaning that she had been in the industry for several years and had gotten to know many different actors. Such parties could easily involve a third of the actors in Los Angeles after a few twists and turns. Maybe Uma had no direct connection to "Growing Pains", but once you went around a few corners, who knows? "And you?"

"Roommate," Hugo answered simply. After yelling, he took a big sip of beer, and the ice-cold liquid instantly cooled his fiery lungs. Singing at the top of his lungs was not a problem for Hugo because he used his diaphragm to project his voice. However, talking loudly like this in normal situations, using his lungs to produce sound, felt quite strenuous.

"Didn't you realize there's something wrong with our current position?" Uma looked at Hugo, with a gleam of cunning in her eyes, shouting loudly.

Hugo lowered his head and only then did he realize that in order to "communicate," the two of them were basically pressed against each other, their heads leaning in the wrong direction, with less than a palm's distance between them. They could clearly see every "pore" on each other's faces — although the indoor lighting was too dim to see much. However, the scent of a "woman's" body still lingered under Hugo's nostrils, slowly fermenting in the warm, ambiguous lighting. His slightly tired mind felt heavy after being invaded by alcohol, and at this moment, it seemed to be draped with a thin veil, hazy and dreamlike, unable to sort out a clear train of thought.

Hugo twitched the corner of his mouth and pointed to his own ears, indicating that they wouldn't be able to hear each other otherwise. After making the gesture, Hugo was about to take a step back and straighten his sore back. But then he heard Uma continue, "Has anyone ever told you that your eyes are very charming?"

Hugo turned his head to look at Uma beside him, their eyes locking, their noses almost touching, and then Hugo curled up his lips, not intentionally raising his voice, but speaking with a slightly louder tone than usual, "Yes, you're not the first one." There was a touch of mockery in his voice as well.

These words sounded so clear in Uma's ears, and the smile on her lips lifted slightly. "So you're so captivating. I guess you've heard such compliments before."

With Uma's low laughter, Hugo felt a slight itch in his ears, whether it was due to Uma's laughter or the warm breath, he couldn't tell. "Can I understand that you're complimenting me for having a lot of masculine charm?"

"Absolutely." Uma burst into laughter, her eyes quietly scanning Hugo's outfit, "Flash is loved by everyone, although not as much as Superman."

This teasing remark made Hugo pause for a moment, then he tilted his head slightly and smiled, "It seems that Wonder Woman has a grudge against me."

"Of course, Wonder Woman seems to prefer Superman or Batman, but the charm of Flash today seems extraordinary." The rosy lips of Uma, glowing in the ever-changing lighting, exuded a deadly allure.

Hugo's gaze uncontrollably moved to those tender lips. His mouth slowly curved, still warm and gentlemanly, but tinged with a slight indulgence due to alcohol. It was like suddenly intense sunlight, so seductive that it almost made one stop breathing.

Uma couldn't help but lean a little closer to Hugo, the already close proximity reduced to just a thin sheet of paper. She could even feel Hugo's warm breath spraying on her lips. Alcohol and blood rushed through their minds, and Uma felt her vision blur, unable to see Hugo's face clearly, only the deep reflection of those clear eyes like a lake, deeply imprinted in her heart.

Hugo gazed at that thrilling touch of green, like two pools of jade rippling in clear, transparent water, the softness between his brows tinged with a faint pink. His body leaned forward uncontrollably, then he found a tender spot and involuntarily kissed it.

Whether it was the intoxication of alcohol or the intoxication of the atmosphere, it was hard to distinguish, and there was no need to differentiate.
