Chương 13: Retreat
He went back to start his search for beasts. He was not in rush to find an intermediate tier this time.
When he fought with the spider earlier it took him no more than ten minutes. But the effort and energy taken to kill the beast was too much.
More than half of his energy stat was emptied. If the beast lasted a little longer then it would have been him in trouble.
With no energy there was no way he could even run away let alone fight.
He was more patient this time to look for an easy prey. He would have preferred something like the fox.
But he not at all dared to follow the panda. The seemingly cute panda was terrifyingly powerful. Stealing his spoils was out of question.
He was now more aware of the situation of the hunting space. When professor mentioned there would be only intermediate tiers, he did not mean it was the limit.
He meant that only intermediate tier beasts would bother fighting them. Beasts above intermediate tier had enough knowledge to avoid humans who did not bother them.
"Of course, if this was not the case how could the Nates have trained their rankers with only intermediate tier beasts" he thought
It was still possible to anger some higher tier beast. There was no way a beast would not dare kill someone just because it has intelligence.
He did not want to mistakenly sneak attack a beast like panda. He did not even bother to look for the beasts in the cave.
There was already a beast in the third cave he could not even sense. In fourth cave there was a giant beast but not at all bothered to show up.
Even when panda killed the fox, the bull beast did not come. But from what Roan could see it was not in panic.
It could only mean the bull like beast was more terrifying than the panda. He did not dare to jump to conclusions.
He planned to search for beasts in forest. Normally the beasts who could not take a place for themselves were the weakest ones.
It would take time to search for them and wait to find their weaknesses but it was the safest he needed to be.
He was not invincible yet. He thought for a while and said " If possible i would even join a group. It would at least be possible to search the beasts quickly "
He suddenly had an idea. He thought that by now most people would have searched for a pray. Or they might have found more than one prey but could not hunt them.
Even the strength of First group was not that extraordinary. So if he tracks the location of other groups, he would be able to spy on their beasts.
He did not exactly want to steal their kills. It was more lile the teams would work and find a beast to slay and he would slay it before them.
It was not the best possible idea but was better than looking for prey himself.
He checked his location and found out a group around forty kilometres away from his current location.
It was team of five members name TEAM jacob. The beast killed by the group was three intermediate tier. No beast of basic tier at all.
It seemed as of they used basic tiers for themselves or did not bother scanning basic tier beast crystals.
There was another group of four people only twenty kilometres from his location but he did not choose them. There was only one intermediate tier crystal submitted by them.
The rest of teams were fairly average. The first group was doing well too. They ranked second with three intermediate tier crystals.
It seemed when they ran away from him, they stumbled upon an easy prey. Still the top was a group with four intermediate tier crystals.
The group was name dark and had only four members in it. It was only secnd day of hunt today but they already hunt four intermediate tiers.
If no mishap happens they would rank first im group ranking.
Roan went to north in direction of TEAM jacob. He wanted to rush there quickly but still paid a lot attention in the forest.
He was more cautious than before. After an hour, he ran about twenty kilometres. The forest came to an end.
It was no longer a forest with dense trees and wild beasts. The area after the forest was a plateau with no dense trees.
There were no beasts roaming in open. It felt empty but dangerous. An area near forest and a plateau which is not inhabited was tricky.
Either a dangerous beast resided in this place or the beasts here all preferred sneak attacks.
He did not rush in plateau openly. He used the cover of trees to check the plateau and local beasts of the plateau if possible.
His assumption was overall correct. The plateau was a residence of a specific type beast.
There was a beast like kangaroo with wings on its back. The beast looked black and evil like a demon beast. It had red eyes and sharp black claws.
The beast walked comfortably on its two legs and jumped down the plateau. It fell off from the plateau and did not use its wings at all.
After five seconds, the beast flew up from what seemed like a distance of 500 meters. "It looks like the demon kangaroo not only can glide with its wings but can also fly very high in the sky" he felt surprised
Earlier when the demon kangaroo jumped down the plateau instead of flying down, he thought the distance between plateau and ground is too much and the beast cannot fly.
Its body was as big as normal kangaroo so he thought it weighed more and could not fly well but did not expect its flight to be this powerful.
The kangaroo could fly as good as normal birds. It was just lazy to fly from above the plateau and started off by jumping down.
"The kangaroo looks very powerful, just its proper flight alone makes it an difficult opponent. Its combat must be high too" he thought of kangaroo as combat type beast.
But a kangaroo with wings was too much, it could very well be on the same level as the panda he saw earlier.
He waited for the beast to come back. The kangaroo did not show up, it went high in the sky and disappeared into a dot.
Roan was still in the forest when he sensed movements. A dark purple cat with steel like tail came close to him.
He prepared for a fight. He used reinforce on his both hands. The moment the cat attacks, he would defend with one hand and attack with another.
The cat came close to him wanting to sneak attack but when it saw it had been noticed, it stopped for a mini second.
After that pause it used its tail to slash at him. Roan had expected the tail to be cat's main weapon. He used his left hand to defend it.
The strike was powerful as bear but he still stopped it. He used his right hand quickly to punch the cat. He did not wait for the cat to take its tail back.
The cat did not panic seeing the other fist coming towards it. It used its tail to strangle Roan's left hand and like a rope tied to it.
Roan punched with all his force not wanting to withdraw his punch just because the cat tied his other hand.
Suddenly he was electrified, the tail which tied around his left hand shocked him with electricity.
He did not want to but the puch was nearly withdrawn. He still punched the cat but the force was 10% of what it was before.
The cat stuck out its paws and striked the incoming fist. He was given an electric shock again. The paw of cat contained electric.
It was very late for him to realise now that the cat has electricity affinity. The shock first caught him unprepared.
The second time when he striked the cat's paw it did not affect him that much. His sutra's only positive affect was that it was resistant to elemental attacks on same level.
Except for little loss of concentration he did not suffer much.
He did not show it to the cat. The cat still thought from its first attack that the enemy is greatly damaged by its element.
The cat felt superior and wanted to play with its prey before killing it. Roan understood the cat has been tricked.
The cat waited for him to stabilise himself before giving him a shock through his tail again.
He reinforced his left hand with violent energy on it. He still played shocked and did not alert the cat. The cat did not notice his hand behind his back.
The next time when cat shocked him he punched with his right hand. The cat did not expect a punch. Even if it expected it, it could only reduce the damage by shocking him.
But surprisingly shocking did not work on him anymore. The punch went straight for the cat's head. The cat used its paws in hurry for defense.
It even moved its head quickly to avoid critical damage. The punch still hit the cat's head. It did not hit the center of it but was still affecting the cat's combat power.
The cat used all his potential to use electric attack in hurry. The cat's purple body carried purple lightning around it.
The light covered its tail and struck towards Roan. He blocked it with one hand punching the cat with another.
The hand which struck the taill was scorched by electricity even under the reinforcement. He did not let it bother himself and still punched the cat's head.
He struck the cat's head but his right hand too was scorched with electricity. The cat was punched back a few meters too.
The cat came back rushing in towards his with a very high speed. He could only see a purple light rushing towards him.
He tried dodging but the cat was nearly double his speed. The cats body still struck his waist and scorched it.
The pain by the attack made him loose his concentration for a second. Luckily the cat was not yet back after striking him.
He knew the cat was stronger than any beast he had fought yet. But it was not him who chose to initiate the attack this time.
The cat chose to prey on him. The best he could do was defend himself. He reinforced his fist again. Only 9 points of his energy stat remain.
He cound not last any longer than four minutes. If he did not kill the purple cat in four minutes, he would die.
When the cat came back to attack him, he used his right fist to attack the cat. The cat easily avoided it ducking to the left.
He used the small gap in between the cat dodging his fist and used his righ knee with reinforcement to strike the cat's body.
The energy put in his leg was around 3 points. All of which was released in a single strike. The cat crashed into a tree breaking it.
The cat was bloodied from the kick. He was only left with four more energy stat while maintaining his fist reinforcement.
He could not use energy any more. The cat walked back to him slowly from the broken tree. It was not in good condition. It felt as if one punch to its body would kill the cat.
But he was not sure if he would be able to land a punch on it.
The cat struggled to walk but still came closer to him to attack again. It did not want to go to afterlife alone.
Roan did not care anymore, he used the remainder four energy stats to reinforce his leg. He stopped supplying his fists with energy.
He right leg reinforced with last of his energy for a final strike. He jumped and used a horse kick to hit the cat's body.
The cat jumped too in response, but its body was small. Before it could reach the level of Roan's head, the kick struck its body.
The beast was smashed dead. Roan did not have any energy left in him. He sat down near the dead cat waiting for notifications.
