Chương 4: Hunting space
The number of beast guns were around forty. It seem planned to provide everyone with one gun.
Whether it was to judge the students decision making or just for their protection, Roan did not know. Yesterday, when he was scrolling the books in library. He learned about some normal beasts.
Though it did not cover all the beasts, but their overall abilities could be gauged. He had the idea of their average speed and strength.
When all twenty seven of them picked their weapons, Denver once again warned them to survive and team up if possible.
All of them were ready. Denver looked at the guards and nodded. The two guards went to the opposite end of hall, towards a square machine of five foot.
They pressed some buttons and used their cards to access the machine. Right to the machine a circular platform started glowing. It was a teleport base with a little difference.
Above the circular platform space started tearing itself. Within ten seconds, the size of space went from a fist to cave of one meter in radius.
In next few seconds, it grew big enough for all twenty seven of them to enter.
"How will be teleport back from space?" a student asked.
Hearing the student question, all other students stiffened. They thought they were all set for hunting but no one thought of coming back.
"Enter, after five days pass you can teleport back through the circular beads in your weapon. Only after fifth day the teleport function will be available."
Hearing Denver mention there is a teleport bead embedded in their weapons, everyone checked their weapons for minute details.
They all found out something circular embedded in their weapon's handle for guns and sword.
For those who chose ranged weapon like bow had their beads embedded in bow. The common place for bead presence was the place to hold the weapon.
Roan checked out his knife and found a bead embedded at top of his knife's handled. It looked like bead was made to hold the knife blade and handle together.
"If you happen to not be able to carry your weapon then you can disassemble your bead from weapon and attach it to your school watch." warned Denver
Roan and others entered the portal , Some who knew each other tried sticking together.
Entering the portal felt like passing through water. It took a second or two when Roan came out to other side. Bright light shined on him making him squint his eyes.
He grabbed his knife ready to attack. When his eyes adjusted to the level of light he checked the place out. He was in a Forest , but not in dense place.
He was somewhere in middle of forest where no tall trees happened to grow. Sunlight bathed him and the area around him was quiet.
He found himself very lucky. He knew he could have teleported to someplace worst but he was in middle of a forest where hunting would be easy.
He could camp and hide himself near the tree. If he wanted to survey the terrain then he could just climb the tallest tree around.
Every tree around him was ten to fifteen meter high. He chose the highest tree near him which was around fourteen meters high.
He easily climbed to the top of tree, thanks to his fitness. When he reached the top, he saw the forest appeared to be more than a kilometer wide.
No signs of any water source could be found.
While checking out the terrain he suddenly sensed something fire at him. He ducked very fast but slipped from tree branch and fell down.
He was three times stronger than normal humans. It did not mean he could fall from a tree of fourteen meter and be safe. If nothing else it would break his hands or leg.
He was already holding his knife, with that hand he used knife's curved point to stab into the tree and other hand to hold the branches while falling down.
Even in crisis of falling down, he noticed the attacker was not a human. It was a beast with a snake like body with two tiny wing.
It was four feet in length with a body wide like an adult man's thigh.The two tiny green color wings were six inch each. The snake like beast was green in color with dark green wings.
From the size of it's wings and it's inability to fly back and strike again, he figured out that the snake like beast could only glide and not fly freely.
However the speed of it's gliding was very high. When he finally stopped falling down and stabilized, the beast attacked again.
This time he was prepared. It only took a little movement to avoid the snake.
"I don't know what is it even attacking me for. It does not even have a claw. Does this shit really think he can spear me with his head and I will present myself as dinner in a plate for him"
Just when he said this , the bark of tree the beast's wing passed through was cut.
"Holy shit, an intermediate tier " he frowned seeing the six inch wing pass through the tree like knife through butter.
He stabalized himself again on different branch of tree. The snake beast found it annoying to miss his prey again and again. This time it aimed for his head.
Roan noticed the time difference between the two attack was three second. If he could time it then he could strike the snake.
The winged snake underestimated him and thought of him as a normal prey. It did not believe a human without ability will fight him back, thus neglecting it's defense it striked again.
Seeing the winged snake coming for his head, Roan counted "Three, two , one" He used hi knife to stab the snake from it's bottom while sitting down to save his head.
*pang*
His attack scratched the beast's skin, only a little of it's skin was pierced. The beast squirmed and glided away from the knife.
"I need to stab at least three times at the same spot for it to die" he analyzed
Luckily for him, the intermediate beast was not intelligent. It was in rage and flew back straight at him. This time it was going for it's body.
Roan did not evade this time. He threw the small knife on the coming winged snake. Seeing the knife coming at him the beast tilted down a little.
It could not control its flight direction. It always glided in straight line.
When the winged snake evaded the knife, it was still scratched in it's left wing. It's flight was affected and it bumped into the tree.
Roan chose the exact moment, he threw his other small knife with all his strength aiming at wing of the snake.
This time though, the wing was penetrated. The small knife stuck the beast to the tree like a picture hanging on wall.
The beast was struggling to free its wing and flee away from the tree. If the beast could escape now, it would likely never come near the human again.
The winged snake was not lucky. An intermediate tier beast with its wing penetrated was not something Roan would show mercy.
He dashed to the tree winged snake was stuck into and stabbed the already pierced neck of beast. The winged snake made a hissing scream but to no avail its neck was pierced again and again.
After three stabs of full strength the beast stopped screaming. Roan wanted to quickly kill it and escape with the beast crystal.
"The winged snake has already made noise. If other beasts now arrive it will be difficult for me to escape"
"I have no idea where the Crystal's location is. It is OK , cutting a four feet snake would not take a lot of time. Even if it does, I cannot just leave the first prey I hunted to someone else."
He quickly used the hole in snake's neck and cut it's body from there. The body was tough. It took one whole minute and all his strength to cut 2 foot of it's body.
Luckily the beast crystal was in middle of its body and he did not have to cut it further.
He took the beast crystal put it into the bag he brought and tugged it into his waist.
He climbed to the top of tree to check for any incoming beast. He was in hurry but not careless enough to just run off without checking for danger.
What he saw made him frown, two same type of winged snake but with red color bodies were rushing in his direction.
"They are probably newbie intermediate tiers. If it is the top speed they can achieve then hunting two of them would not be any difficult than the green snake."
He quickly jumped to the different tree. The distance between him and the dead beast was three meter. If he dashed he could arrive at the dead snake in a second and do a sneak attack.
"If they come together it will be a little difficult. If only one of them climbs up then it will take ten minutes at most." thought Roan
