Chương 26: My inspiration

Jhansi ki rani

Rani Lakshmibai, also known as Jhansi Ki Rani, was the Queen of the Maratha-ruled state of Jhansi in North India currently in Uttar Pradesh. She was one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857, also known as India's First War of Independence.

Rani Lakshmibai was born in 1828 in Varanasi and was married to Raja Raja Rao Bhonsle of Jhansi at the age of 14. After her husband's death, she became the ruler of Jhansi in 1853. She was known for her intelligence, bravery, and political acumen.

Rani Lakshmibai was a strong supporter of the East India Company and the British Raj, but after the death of her adopted son and the refusal of the British government to recognize him as the heir to the throne of Jhansi, she became an active participant in the rebellion of 1857.

She led her army against the British during the Siege of Jhansi, but was ultimately defeated. However, her bravery and leadership during the rebellion made her a symbol of resistance and a source of inspiration for future generations of Indians fighting for independence.

Rani Lakshmibai died on 18 June 1858, during the Battle of Gwalior, at the age of 29. Today she is considered as a national hero in India and celebrated as a symbol of resistance against the British Raj.
