A late season snowstorm delayed him by a couple of days, and when he finally reached the capital, it was exactly as awful as his momentary travel companions had promised. Worse, even. The warships loomed in the harbor like patiently waiting executioners, and there was far more smoke in the air than even such a large city would produce this time of year.
Getting into the city was going to be tricky. He couldn't enter by ordinary means; there was no way they'd simply admit a Mestien citizen carrying an armory's worth of weapons, not to mention the more unusual items like his smokebombs. And there was no way he was leaving his weapons behind.
So how to get inside
By ocean was right out. The walls might be viable, as they didn't look to be heavily guarded, but he also couldn't see if the guards were simply on the ground on the other side. He could probably deal with a few guards, but he'd rather not cause a ruckus if he could avoid it.
