Chương 208: Chain Reaction XII

"Any other official business to discuss?" Jun inquired.

"Not really but . . ." Azazel paused.

"But?" Jun gave him a suspicious look.

"Since the official business ended on a more or less good note . . . How about we discuss something a little more personal." The fallen angel suggested.

"I'm not sure I like where this is going . . ." Jun was already feeling like complaining.

That said, he was quite a bit more relaxed since personal matters meant he was just chatting with a friend and not handling something official with another leader which required a different posture and attitude in his personal opinion.

"Alright, just to preempt, this is about Barakiel." Azazel just straightforwardly said it and Jun was already making a tired expression, his eyes rolling in ways Azazel didn't even think possible.

"Just hear me out okay." The fallen angel insisted on having that conversation.

"You'll have to be very, very, very convincing." Jun declared.

"I'm nothing if not that." Azazel confidently responded.

"Besides, if this doesn't solve things then I'll just not get personally involved in the issue but I tough I should at least give it a serious try." He explained.

"Fair enough." Jun acknowledged and readied himself for a conversation he honestly did not really feel like having at this point . . . Or ever if was truly, truly honest.

"Great so first, I was kinda hoping you could see things from his perspective . . ." Azazel started.

"Elaborate. Because I think I have a good grasp of things but I willing to listen." So Jun said but his posture made it quite apparent that he was quite set on his way of seeing things.

Azazel was already internally sighing but he was not going to give it up that easily. He had already tried a failed with Barakiel, his hope was that Jun would see things more clearly from analyzing the matter with him and change his opinion. The fallen angel knew him to be a logical thinker after all.

"There are two sides to this, the first, is the official side and then there is the more personal side of the problem which Barakiel is facing." Azazel started while checking Jun for his reaction.

"Continue." Jun bade but seemed completely unimpressed so far.

'At least he is listening . . . So far so good.' The fallen angel thought to himself before proceeding with his point.

"On the official side of matters, there is Barakiel's position as a Cadre of Grigori. As a man who takes his responsibilities very seriousl-"

"Except protecting his family since I had to be the one to take care of that." Jun interjected which made Azazel's expression twist into a wry one for a moment before continuing.

"As a man who takes his responsibilities very seriously, Barakiel would not go around finding trouble with another force and possible cause a war between us and them."

Azazel awaited another interjection but Jun just made a circular gesture telling him to keep going, he would say his piece at the end of the explanation. The fallen angel was not too thrilled with how things were progressing but he soldiered on.

"Then there is the personal side. Circumstances aside, there is no denying that one's father in law is someone one should respect since you are taking his daughter as a wife, not to mention he was the source of their whole conflict in the first place which adds an element of guilt." Azazel explained.

"I've taken all that into consideration long ago but my opinion doesn't change. He's a screw up and if I did not step in and handled things myself, he'd be weeping over his dead wife and estranged daughter." Jun responded.

"Tha-" Azazel wanted to interject but Jun did not let him.

"You can argue with me all you want. What you cannot argue with however, are results. I protected Shuri and Akeno and made the Himejima clan not dare to target them before starting a mend in their relations by talking things through with Suzaku." Jun continued

"Right now, their backing, the Shinto Gods, even made them mend bridges and treat them much better to get in good with me so you can even say I've completely restored that broken relationship and boosted their status in their clan." He added.

"After all of this, all I've got from Barakiel are stupid remarks, threats and accusations. If he was not Shuri's husband and one of yours, I'd have killed that ungrateful waste ages ago." Jun kept going.

"Look, Azazel, I get his reasoning and it is a shitty one. It may be his father in law but he was trying to kill Shuri because of her relationship with him. It was obvious talking was going to solve nothing as for provoking a war . . ." He paused.

"Do you really need me to explain that part to you? Going after the Himejima would be one thing but killing a threat that presented itself, the Shinto Gods would not go to war over that." Jun concluded his piece.

Azazel could only rub his head with some strength out of exasperation.

'The worst part is that is not wrong. The results speak for themselves but still . . . I had no idea Jun had an even more drastic stance on the matter than Barakiel. The situation pissed him off more than I realize. If our relationship was not so good as it was then Barakiel would have been dead.' The fallen angel thought to himself.

"Fine I get your point. I'll just have to make sure you two stay out of each other's way then." Azazel relented.

"That would be best now let's drink, nothing better to unwind a bit." Jun responded

"Sounds fantastic." Azazel instantly replied.

Neither of the two realized this matter was far from over even if the initiative was no longer with neither . . .
