The train stopped after it ran a little far from The Seikan Tunnel. It was extraordinarily hot there in Aomori compared to Hokkaido. The sun was right above the train and it shone brighter than ever.
"What the hell do you mean?" A loud noise came from inside the train. It was Raiden, he shouted furiously at Joel.
"I- I don't know, I think there wasn't much fuel in it from the start," Joel replied.
"From the start? And you are telling me you never noticed it?" Raiden remarked.
"Umm, I guess I didn't because of the excitement," Joel slightly hid his embarrassment.
"Come on dude, it isn't a thing that you can not bother noticing."
"Tch, the same could be said for you too," Joel spoke up furiously this time. "Now tell me, why didn't you notice the meter?"
"No point in discussing the past Joel, we should think of what should we do now," Raiden said, very calmly.
"You were the one who started blaming me first," Joel shouted.
"Oof, okay I'm sorry, now calm down and what do we do now?"
"What else do you think? We have to get the fuel from Aomori," Joel said as he opened the compartment door and moved out.
Raiden followed him and they both jumped down from the train. Upon hitting the ground they felt intense heat. Up until now, the train had sheltered them but now they were wide open to the sunlight.
"What the hell happened here?" Raiden murmured.
Their eyes were wide open after seeing the view of Aomori city. The city was full of sand. The land was barren and there was no sign of greenery. It almost looked like a city in the desert. It was like a different world than Hokkaido.
Raiden kneeled and picked up a piece of sand.
"It's sand," Raiden said. "What the hell is sand doing in Aomori?" Raiden looked up at Joel.
"How am I supposed to know?" Joel also looked confused.
Though they entered Aomori, the actual buildings and houses were so far away from where their train had stopped. They were currently in the middle of nowhere. At the backside of the train, laid the tunnel which they had come through. At the left, there was the never-ending sand. At right, there was the city of Aomori. Many huge buildings were at the front.
In the front of the train, at some far distance, the rails bent to the right going inside the city.
"So what now? We still going to that barren city?" Raiden asked.
"Yes, we have to go and get that diesel. Let's take some weapons and supplies with us in our bags."
They took out some food and water from the big bag and filled them into their bags.
They left the train and started heading towards the city. The distance was quite far and they had to cover it on their foot.
The temperature had risen a little more. Sun was now directly above their heads. They dragged their legs on the hot sand and moved ahead.
The heat was almost unbearable and their body sweated like crazy.
"You stink," Raiden said.
"You too."
They kept on moving without talking much. Stopping in every twenty minutes to take a sip of water from their bottle. They had plenty of supplies so they didn't have to worry about drinking too much.
"Hey Joel, what is this thing? Is it some kind of scorch trials or something? Do we have to cross a hundred miles to get the diesel as a reward?" Raiden asked.
"Don't know, don't care, and what the hell is a scorch trials?" Joel replied with a question.
"Huh, scorch trials? I don't know what I'm talking about, I think the heat is getting over my mind."
Silence again hovered over the area as they slowly made their way towards the city. Only the sound of cracking of sand under their feet could be heard, not even the breeze was blowing at that time.
"Joel, do you know?" Raiden broke the silence, "When I was traveling around the countries, I read novels to pass my time and I had read quite a lot of novels till now."
"Oh?" Joel replied with a dull voice.
"There were many noobie authors who copied some certain events from other novels because they were out of fresh ideas," Raiden said.
"That's really shameful. Taking some time to come up with a better idea is better than copying someone else."
"Yes, right," Raiden agreed.
Silence took over them again. They walked through the hot land, making their way little by little towards the city.
The building seemed much closer now. It was hardly a thirty minutes path now.
"Hey Joel, what do you think? Are the cranks waiting inside those big buildings?" Raiden asked, once again.
"Don't know, don't care, and what the hell is a crank?"
"Huh, crank? I don't know, don't ask me."
Again, the silence.
Both of them walked with their faces to the down. They stopped when a certain figure entered their field of vision. It was the big building. They raised their heads in search of the top of the building. It went all the way up to the sky. Raiden almost fell on his back in order to look all the way up.
They looked at each other and a certain energy flowed inside them. They dashed towards the small entrance to the building standing right ahead of them.
Joel got the moves faster and went in first, followed by Raiden right behind him.
They hovered over the ground. Finally happy to feel the hard ground under their feet. It was still hot in there but it was better than what they had experienced outside. Raiden thought he would have gone insane if he had stayed in the scorching light for a little more moment.
They both just laid down on the floor with their eyes closed. They did nothing for some minutes, they wanted all the sweat to drip down.
The sudden energy had left their bodies and their stomach wanted a little feast. They brought out their canned food and water bottles. They immediately started digging in along with getting their throats some drops of water.
They both were back at their senses and when they looked back at the train, the way they had came looked a lot shorter. It hardly looked like more than a thirty-minute of the journey from the train to the building. But they walked like turtles on the sand which took them a lot more time to cover the distance.
"You ready to move on?" Joel asked.
"Of course."
They stepped out of the building into the sand. The sunlight again felt like needles picking on them but they started to move inside the city.
It was just big buildings, which looked totally destroyed, surrounding them. They continued to walk further ahead between all the buildings but a sudden shadow popped up ahead of them on the sand.
They stopped. The shadow was still on the sand, they glared at it but another figure made their eye shift.
Another shadow popped up right beside the first one. Then, another one. One more and again, another. In no time several shadows filled their way and it was obvious that the source of the shadow was above them.
Without any hesitation, they raised their heads towards the top of the building.
Zombies. Above the building, on the roof of every single building, there were zombies lined up on the edge, glaring down on Raiden and Joel.
They both attempted to not move and made it look like there was no one there but it was clear that the zombies already knew their exact location.
The fact that why it was so clear could only be explained because of the sudden moment done by the zombies.
They all jumped down together, towards Raiden and Joel.
So I was reading The Scorch Trials and an idea popped up in my mind to do a parody of it, so here it is lol.
