People were cheering after seeing that they had made it. But not everyone was pleased with the outcome. There was one man looking up with his cigar at its last puff. It was 'Archie'. He grimaced as an insignia within his right hand began to burn while his body visibly shrunk. He hurried, moving into the shadows. Having spotted a woman obscured from everyone's view he touched her neck as she tried to see what was unfolding.
Plop! – She fell on the ground coughing violently as he called for help while still holding onto her neck. When the crowds came, he then made his exit but not before trying to see the faces of those who foiled his plans. Yet they were too far up on the beams. Still, he declared in his mind that if the day were ever to come that he knew their names, he would kill not only them but everyone they held dear.
"I really hate heroes!" He uttered before hurriedly making his exit as the woman's body began to convulse.
Those above the towers could only hear the cheers. They had not seen the miraculous leap made by the two brothers. As for Lucy, she hurried and ran down from the tower. There were still streams of tears flowing from her cheeks while waiting to see their faces. She looked up towards the anchoring beams but there was nothing there.
"Hey, beautiful!" She heard a voice that she previously so desperately hoped to hear once more. Turning around she saw the two brothers who had minor bruises on their bodies. She hugged them both, there were so many pent-up emotions that all came to the fore at once. "Don't ever do that again," she punched Jamie in his firm chest before kissing him as Shaun rolled his eyes.
Lucy - "What happened on board?" she questioned.
Jamie – "We'll talk about it on our way to your apartment. Now might not be the time." He uttered seeing the red and blue lights flashing. The three made their way to Lucy's apartment as an excited Shaun filled her in on the details. It could be seen how highly he thought of Jamie's decisiveness, as he spoke of how heroic his big brother was with the way he handled things.
Shaun - "You're a hero! You saved everyone on board from that lunatic. I can't believe it, my first day in Lake View City and my big bro has saved the day. I've never anticipated watching the news this much in my life."
Jamie sought to downplay the events – "You were just as heroic. If not for you, many of those people would have died."
Shaun – "No I froze," He looked away somewhat loathing himself.
Jamie – "No, what matters is you fought through those jitters and did your best to help me. Many would have curled up in a ball and refused, but you were able to confront your fears when it mattered the most. You made me proud tonight." He rubbed Shaun's head affectionately causing the little fellow to cheer up.
Soon the trio had arrived at Lucy's small apartment. It wasn't that much to look at and there was barely any space, but she was all smiling. This morning when she saw it, it was a hell hole and no matter how much she sought to spruce it up, nothing changed. But after tonight's ordeal, she knew what it meant to appreciate the little things. In its small space the smell of spices combining bombarded the senses as she was intent on cooking a feast worthy of the occasion.
Jamie – "Are you sure you don't want my help?" He questioned while a lazy Spek rested on his shoulder.
Lucy – "No, it's fine. You two, just relax" she stated, with a smile. Shaun seeing the two's interaction couldn't help but notice that something was off about Lucy, "Is she going to be fine?" He asked.
Jamie – "She hasn't fully come to terms with what happened today, some people handle traumatic events in their own way. I'll stay a few extra days, she'll be fine."
Shaun nodded once more looking at Lucy before recalling something – "Jamie, you know something really funny happened while we were onboard that death trap. It was only for a second, but I remember you telling me to concentrate and then it was like you were in my mind guiding me through my thoughts. Weird right?"
Jamie – "Really, that is weird. You sure do have a wild imagination", he responded with a smile. Soon Shaun became excited when he saw a programme flash on the tv screen, "Lucy, hurry it's on once more," He beckoned for Lucy.
On the television screen, the familiar news anchors, Barbara Santos and Frank Borst were picture-perfect as they broadcasted.
[Tv: Frank – "Tonight in other news! Thirteen were gruesomely injured and one in critical condition after a terror attack at 'FunLand'. For more, we go to our field correspondent, Marissa Fonte."
Marissa – "Thank you, Frank. Fun Land, heralded as one of the most joyous places on earth, was today under siege. It all unfolded on a popular ride which goes by the name the Gut Wrencher, the ultimate test for thrill-seekers. However, today's thrill was far more than its passengers could have ever imagined. It is said that at 6:13 PM, a man alleged he had rigged the ride to explode when it accelerated at a certain speed. This as you could imagine caused hysteria onboard the sixteen-seater ride.
During the commotion, it is reported that one passenger, only known as Nicolas, freed himself before freeing what is suspected to be a male relative. Some eyewitnesses say he was a brother, while others say he was a cousin. The two then went on to free their fellow passenger after a cane was thrown on board from an adjacent tower." As Marissa spoke the camera was focused on the tower with evident cracks on its side with the debris of what remained of the Gut Wrencher below.
Barbara – "Marissa, such brave feats. These young men should be commended for acting so swiftly in such a high-pressure situation."
Marissa – "Hold up Barbara, this is where the tale takes a twist as we have received conflicting reports from those same passengers. A few spoke highly of the two who it is said assisted them to a nearby platform through unconventional means, but as for others they had a few choice words."
Love writing these three
