Both Melanie and Conner started to walk away from there, and when they stepped out of the library building, Conner asked her, "Do you know what happened last night? Ms. Dante and the other Elder vampires had asked Julie and Simon to stay behind." 

That was something that had slipped out of her mind, and Melanie shook her head. Internally she bit her lip for being this stern with Simon, but she was like this only because he poked her to get a reaction out of her, which he was often successful at. 

"There was a bruise on his face. Do you think they punished him for helping you out of the dungeon?" Melanie questioned Conner, and he pursed his lips. 

"I don't know… And I don't know why, but it feels like this is not the end. I mean, they will continue to keep a close watch on us. And it isn't like I tried to kill any of them," Conner bitterly said. All he had done was inquire and nothing more.
