As this year's Summer Sun Celebration was being held in Canterlot, the parents of Twilight and Starfall decided to see the Festival together.
Since their children had such a strong friendship, they also got to know each other better and despite the difference in status, the two families were in a quite friendly relationship.
The festival was a blast and Twilight looked as if her eyes were about to pop out from their sockets from how amazed she was with Princess Celestia.
Starfall on the other hand was currently suffering a bloody massive headache from his genius idea of using his Mage Sight on the Sun rising Celestia...
He got a number of interesting information from the experience but he would argue whether it was worth it when considering how much pain he was currently in...
Twilight was constantly nagging Starfall with excited shouts about how amazing Celestia and magic in general was while jumping all around him, and he considered it adorable.
"If you love magic so much, why don't you try applying for Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns? I'll go with you and we'll become the best students that Celestia would be proud of!" He proposed and her eyes glowed even brighter in excitement if that was even possible.
"Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes!!! Let's do this Starfall! Well be the best there ever was! And Princess will be so sooo proud!" She Exclaimed and hugged him tightly.
Starfall for some reason Imagined Twilight with a cap and a bunch of red and white balls upon hearing her words. He shrugged this thought away and smiled at the excited filly.
"Of course Twily! Now come! I saw a stand with delicious looking Cupcakes not far from here! I'm sure you'll love to get some. My treat." He said and dragged one very happy Twilight straight towards the food stands...

The Festival was a big success, and the two little Ponies had a lot of fun together while they ate and played at the multitude of attractions.
Starfall could finally enjoy himself like a real colt without in any way feeling like an outsider. While he could still think with the same wisdom of an adult and had the accumulated experience, He was in both spirit and body just an eleven years old pony. He found enjoyment in simple games and he could easily socialize with ponies his age while being still entirely capable of acting like an adult when he really needed.
It was a few weeks later that the date of admission to Celestia's School finally approached, and with it the Entrance Exam.
They were placed in different time groups for the exam, so Starfall and Twilight could observe the examination of the other one.
The first to be tested was Starfall.
He walked confidently into the room and politely greeted the examiners. The greeted him back acknowledging his politeness and indicated him to proceed to the center of the room where his examination target awaited.
On the way, Starfall glanced at the tribunes and saw that other than his family and a very restless Twilight, there was also the source of that restlessness in the form of one Princess Celestia. Seems like she wanted to see her favorite nephew during his examination to her school.
Starfall waved to everyone with a smile and turned to look at what was he supposed to do today.
What he saw on the podium, was surprisingly a large, white egg with a red coloured fiery pattern. His eyes opened wide in shock. He recognized it from the books he read in the castle library! It was an egg of a white phoenix! Was he supposed to hatch a white phoenix?! that doesn't make sense... Just like hatching a dragon... If that was the target of the exam, then the entire Canterlot would have been filled with unicorns having phoenix and dragon familiars...or looking at it from another way, this should be actually an extremely difficult thing to accomplish, and the school would have little to no attending student because of it. No. The test had to be something else, but he was told that he couldn't speak after arriving at the platform and that he was to use magic in any way he wanted.
'So that is it! They don't really expect me to hatch the phoenix! They want to see how I handled casting magic and Twilight's case in the show was an extreme situation to say the least...
He...hehehehe... But they don't know who they are dealing with! I'm going to hatch this Phoenix and show them what I'm really worth!"' Thought Starfall with the feeling of anticipation towards the challenge before him.
Now what he knew about white phoenixes?
They are capable of their own type of teleportation just like a regular phoenix and they are also very smart while their tears possess some healing properties ...just like a normal phoenix... Actually...White phoenixes are just a different breed of the regular phoenixes, and they live mostly near the volcanoes in the frozen north.
'Alright stop thinking useless stuff and focus Starfall! They are magical creatures of rebirth and fire. Life, resurrection, healing, things like that...oh and maybe a bit of cold due to them living in the cold climates even though they still reside in warmth.'
Starfall approached the egg and a spell was already forming in his mind. He combined many words from the magical language that he thankfully researched beforehand in case he had to hatch an egg like Twilight. The words were trying to convey hatching in warmth, love, and peace. He also added symbols that signified resurrection, life, healing, ice and connection. The words didn't really need to form coherent sentences, as the magic would interpret the meaning from his own intent, but the spell would certainly be more powerful when the words and letters actually made any sense together.
Starfall didn't even realize that his horn was currently glowing with a blinding light and the examiners already game him a passing mark. He was to preoccupied with the spell and no one was trying to do anything, seeing that Princess Celestia was yet to stand up from her sit, to interested in the spectacle in front of her.
Everyone could see the large amount of magic with a purple aura surging into the egg and the thought of interrupting Starfall at this point didn't even cross their mind.
Starfall never stopped the stream of magic constantly pouring more into the egg, hoping to achieve the desired effect. He didn't realize when the symbol o connection started to glow with a stronger light as he continued to add newer symbols to the equations every time a new idea came to his mind.
There was a bunch of symbols that meant to give strength, some to help the future phoenix in learning to fly, and even one that he hoped could help in improving it's intelligence.
Of course all this was invisible to the outsiders as the only thing they saw was the beautifully glowing horn of Starfall...
Suddenly there was a an audible crack, and to everyone shock and amazement, the egg exploded into pieces, revealing a little white cheek with a red beak and pretty purple eyes. It's white fluffy feathers were still covered in soot, but everyone could see the tips of its feathers turning slightly red at the tip when the tail and wings are considered.
Starfall couldn't take his eyes away from the little chick he just hatched, and as it scooted closer to him clumsily, he couldn't help but scoop the little phoenix lightly into his hooves.
He saw the pair of purple eyes and couldn't help but say...
"You have your daddy's eyes little one." He giggled and lightly petted the tiny phoenix that was now practically falling asleep in his embrace.
He finally turned to the stunned examiners with the chili still in tow.
"So...Do I pass?" He said with a wide grin.
He heard a laugh from the stand and it turned out to be coming from Princess Celestia who jumped into the air and landed beside him.
"You sure did my dear Nephew. I'd have already accepted you as my personal disciple with the magic you displayed, but until the examination day is over I am obliged to wait and see for any other candidates. But i don't think anyone has a chance to beat you anyway, hahaha!" Laughed the Alicorn and Konrad just smiled while thinking. ' If everything goes as it should today, then you might just see something even better Aunty...' He thought with amusement...
