Chương 5: Chapter 5. Another world
The red light cleared and I realised I was on an angle. I noticed several things as I got to my feet. First, I was standing on some sort of ashy slope. At the bottom, a long way away was some sort of red plain with vents shooting a layer of steam for as far as the eye could see. The sky was blood red and the top of the slope couldn't be seen because of a layer of black smoke. I spent a couple of hours making my way up the red ashy slope until I passed through the layer of smoke and I saw I was on the edge of a large volcano. I peeked into the volcano and I saw the volcano wasn't very full. 'So, you've finally made it to me,' the deep voice I'd been hearing said.
"You're my sword are you? Where are you? You're not the volcano are you?" I asked.
"No, the volcano is my home and the lava is your power. As your power grows, the lava fills. I sleep in the lava to grow so I can join you in battle one day," the voice answered.
"What's happening with the Gillian?" I asked.
"The Cero is still firing at you. Activating my power for the first time will be draining but you should be able to defeat the Gillian. I assume Jack will run in fear like the coward he is, but you probably won't want to chase him as you probably won't have the energy. Well, time is running out so you'd better head back," the voice said and I started to get dizzy.
"Wait, how do I activate you?" I slurred, and I heard a deep booming laugh.
"I will show you my form and you will know what to do when you wake up," the voice said as I fell to the ground. Just before I fell unconscious the smoke rising from the volcano made the shape of a puppy sized dragon.

As my vision was returning I heard thundering which snapped me to attention. I opened my eyes and saw nothing but blackness. I rolled over and saw I was on a soft black cloud with other clouds all around raining lightning everywhere. I got to my feet and from a white humanoid figure dropped down from another cloud.
"So you're here. Time to fight," the figure said and I saw the figure was made completely out of hollow mask and had a scythe on it's back.
We both drew our scythes and clashed, but it seemed like we were exactly equal in power. 'Well if it's a hollow, then I have the advantage because I can use jutsu,' I thought, and the hollow smirked as I made the Rat hand sign to use Shadow Imitation jutsu, but nothing happened.
"Come on Andrew. That wouldn't be fair," the hollow laughed and leapt at me again, which I barely blocked. I used Sonido to get behind the hollow but of course the hollow had Sonido too and I barely blocked an attack from behind me.
"Come on Andrew! You're cleverer than that!" the hollow said angrily.
I blocked the next attack with the shaft allowing me to attack faster but then the hollow blocked with its own shaft. 'How do I beat something that is exactly the same as me,' I wondered as I jumped back and the hollow used Sonido to close the distance and attack again. I ducked under it and slashed back but the hollow blocked. I twisted the blade and slashed again but the hollow ducked and slashed me across the chest. I spun and slashed, knocking the hollow back with the force. I used Sonido and slashed down which the hollow barely blocked. The hollow slashed at me but I Sonidoed behind it and slashed and the hollow Sonidoed behind me. I blocked behind me without turning, then spun and slashed again but the hollow ducked. The hollow slashed at me again and I Sonidoed away. The hollow Sonidoed after me and I blocked with the back of the blade, then slashed and nearly got the hollow but it leaned away at the last second, with my blade bouncing off its armoured body.
'Damnit. I need a deeper strike,' I thought as the hollow Sonidoed away again. The hollow and I waited for each other but the hollow was the one to strike first. It Sonidoed towards me and I ducked under the blade and bifurcated the hollow, but the hollow's bone like white body travelled up the scythe and into my body, causing my vision to turn white.
'Finally,' the hollow said before I passed out.

"Burn, Karyuu," I said as I sensed Hollow energy gathering in Andrew's left hand. I waved my hand over my blade as Andrew wiped across his face with his hand. My sword changed shape into a scimitar as a black lightning bolt shaped hollow mask. We sliced through the Cero at the same time, then started climbing up the Gillian. As we ran we slashed and were able to cut much deeper this time but considering the Gillians enormous size it wasn't much damage and Gillians have high speed regeneration so healed by the time we'd taken two steps. As I reached the neck I leapt and pointed the tip of Karyuu at the Gillians face.
"Karyuu Roar," I said and a plume of flames shot out, bathing the mask in flames. The mask looked burnt, but would have healed in seconds if it hadn't been for Andrew leaping up the Gillians face, cutting through the weakened mask with his scythe.
The Gillian quickly evaporated so Andrew and I turned our attention to watch the battlefield as we fell. Tim spread a Smokescreen across the battlefield which Asuma cleared after a couple of seconds but all of Jack's forces had gathered and were beginning the retreat. Oboro immediately released a Hiding in Mist Jutsu.
'You're going to feel a massive power drain soon and won't be in fighting condition and Asuma will run out of chakra before catching them,' Karyuu said.
"We'll let them get away. If we bunch up they shouldn't feel like coming back to fight us again. Maybe we can track them down again soon when our power recharges," I said. Roughly a minute later I started to get dizzy, and before I passed out I hoped Jack didn't come back while we were unconscious.
I woke up and Candice had taken control of the scene while Andrew, Arya and I were all unconscious.
"Why'd you pass out Arya? Did you unlock a new power?" I asked.
"I don't really know," Arya answered. Wendy went to heal her and found a black 'B' tattooed on her right arm.
"Ah, that's a quincy Schrift. I believe the B stands for Balance. I can't remember how it works exactly but I think it takes all damage you get and reflects it back at them," I explained.
"I don't know. During the battle I felt like I sort of had control over Frosch and Akemaru," Arya said.
"I guess I'll talk to them about it later when I get reports. Will everyone be ready to head back to base in a couple of minutes?" I asked Candice.
"Sure will. I'll get everyone organised," Candice answered.
We took our time getting back to the base and then I had to do some reports about the battle. After writing up what happened in Andrew and my battle against the Gillian I brought in Loly to inform me about the fight with Jack.
"So…how did the fight with Jack go?" I asked.
"It was pretty rough. I tried to stay in close to keep Jack distracted while the others attacked from a distance but he was able to beat me back pretty easily and keep striking back at the others, although we did manage to keep him from distracting you in your fight against the Gillian," Loly reported.
"Did he display any new powers?" I asked.
"Yes, he was able to do a high speed movement technique like a Flash Step or Sonido," Loly answered.
"And were any of you able to inflict any injuries on him?" I asked.
"No but we do think he was starting to run low on stamina," Loly answered.
"Thank you very much. Please bring in Candice," I said.
"How did the fight with Mick go?" I asked when Candice came over.
"Not bad. I was able to keep up with his Flash Step and I was about even with his swordsmanship. Wendy could absorb his Jutsu attacks but she had trouble keeping up in the battle and launching counterattacks," Candice answered.
"Did he have any new techniques besides his high speed movement technique, which I'm assuming might be a Body Flicker from Naruto given his powers," I explained.
"No, that's all," Candice answered.
"Did you inflict any damage on him?" I asked.
"No but he didn't damage either of us either," Candice said.
"Thank you. Can you get Arya for me?" I asked.
"So Arya, how did your fight go?" I asked.
"Alright. He was faster than Asuma but equal in speed with me. Asuma kept launching Jutsu's which countered his Smoke Fruit most of the time but I couldn't hit him with arrows. Tim tried to take down Asuma so I had to block most of the attacks but that usually left him vulnerable to Asuma's jutsu. Eventually he put distance between himself and Asuma, trying to keep me busy, but then I got the burning sensation, which I guess was the tattoo, and then I felt like I was telepathically linked to Frosch and Akemaru, so I was able to coordinate their attacks. I feel like we were really getting the advantage over their opponent," Arya explained.
"Did he display any new techniques?" I asked.
"He could Flash Step but that's it," Arya answered.
"And did you damage him?" I asked.
"It seemed like it hurt when he was in smoke form and got hit with Asuma's jutsu, but I don't think there were any wounds," Arya explained.
"Okay. Next can you send in Porche?" I asked.
"Hi Porche. You fought against Nezumi, correct?" I asked.
"Yeah that's right," Porche answered.
"And how did that fight go?" I asked.
"He had a flintlock rifle so he would attack from afar, but I was able to dodge all of his attacks. He was able to shoot any of my Flower Shuriken attacks I tried, so I tried to attack from a closer range but he kept his distance," Porche explained.
"I see. And did he have any techniques or attacks beside using the rifle?" I asked.
"No," Porche answered.
"And neither of you hurt each other," I asked.
"No but I feel like I really had the advantage there, that's why I think he was keeping such a distance from me," Porche answered.
"Thank you. Please send in Kin next," I said.
"Hi Kin. You fought against Shigure again right?" I asked.
"Yep," Kin answered.
"Then please tell me about the fight," I said.
"He fought close to Baiu, so I was also close to Frosch and Akemaru. They had better coordination than us and kept me from using my Genjutsu, and I was really on the defensive. I sometimes had to block attacks from hitting Frosch and Akemaru but just before the giant was defeated Frosch and Akemaru's coordination went through the roof and they were able to turn the tide of the battle," Kin reported.
"Did you see any new techniques?" I asked.
"No. They both used umbrellas for Taijutsu and Shigure could use his senbon jutsu through his umbrella," Kin explained.
"And did you do any damage?"
"No, Shigure was unharmed but running out of chakra, but I think Baiu took some," Kin answered.
"Thank you. Please send Nemu in next," I said.
"Hi Nemu. So, tell me about your fight against Ganju," I said.
"There isn't much to say. We were evenly matched in Hakuda. He mainly used punch techniques. I believe I may have had more stamina than him but it didn't matter as they retreated before I could take advantage," Nemu reported.
"So no new techniques?" I asked.
"No sir," Nemu answered.
"Thank you. Please send in Beth next," I said.
"Hi Beth. How did your fight against Karacka go?" I asked.
"Well, he was kind of annoying the way he kept teleporting through the ground. He could dodge my Carrot Missiles, and my Onion Gas was pretty ineffective. He was able to just teleport in close to me so was really hard for me to dodge or block. Luckily he had no weapons," Beth said.
"Okay, so were there any new moves?" I asked.
"No, just the teleporting but that was enough to cause me a lot of trouble," Beth answered.
"So you didn't deal any damage to him?" I asked.
"No but I took multiple attacks. If he had a weapon I probably would have died and he was definitely winning, although I think I have more magic than him as he seemed to be running out," Beth answered.
"Well I'm glad you're all better now. Hopefully we get them next time. Please send in Alvida," I said.
"So Alvida, how did your fight with Buchi go?" I asked.
"It was alright. We might be even in strength but using two hands makes me stronger than him, although having two weapons does make things pretty dangerous," Alvida answered.
"Did he have any new techniques?" I asked.
"No," Alvida answered.
"Did you hurt him?"
"I knocked him back a couple of times when he blocked but I don't think it did much. Luckily he didn't manage to hurt me at all. Maybe next time I'll finally get a good hit on him. It should only take one to take him down," Alvida said.
"Okay, thank you Alvida. Good luck. Please send in Bepo next," I said.
"Hi Bepo, how are you?" I asked.
"I'm well thank you," Bepo answered.
"You fought against Kuromarimo didn't you. How did the fight go?" I asked.
"It went fine. He was a decent fighter, with reasonable strength for a human, but he only boxes so he is quite limited with his attacks. He also took a couple of hits and I'm surprised he was able to take the attacks but he got away. Once I get Electro I'll easily take him down," Bepo answered.
"Did he have any new attacks?" I asked.
"Nope, he was just boxing me with his black gloves," Bepo answered.
"You said you managed to hit him a couple of times. Do you reckon you managed to do any damage to him?"
"I'm not sure what you humans are like with healing but I don't think I broke any bones or anything. I probably just bruised him a bit so I'm sure he will heal quick," Bepo answered.
"Okay, thank you. Can you send in Frosch now?"
"How are you doing Frosch?" I asked.
"Frosch is good," Frosch answered.
"Please tell me about the fight with Akemaru against Baiu and Shigure," I said.
"The ninja fought with his hands and an umbrella. He kept blocking with his umbrella but couldn't hit Frosch in the air, but the other ninja was shooting needles at Frosch. It took a while but then Frosch's mind went blank and Frosch's body moved on it's own, and Frosch knew he was attacking at the same time as Akemaru. We were starting to damage the fat one but then they started to run away," Frosch explained.
"Kin said they didn't have any new techniques. Did you see any new techniques?" I asked.
"No, Frosch didn't see anything but kicks and punches and whacks with the umbrella," Frosch explained.
"Okay, and what damage did you guys take or do?" I asked.
"Frosch charged into him a couple of times but probably only left some bruises. Akemaru managed to bite him a few times but Frosch doesn't think it did too much damage," Frosch answered.
"Thank you Frosch. Why don't you send Iruka in and then have a rest," I said.
"Hi Iruka. How did your fight with Oboro go?" I asked.
"It was alright. He primarily uses water jutsu which makes my fire jutsu a disadvantage, so I had to cancel it out with my own water jutsu's, but his second jutsu type is earth so he had the advantage against my water types," Iruka explained.
"Did he show any new techniques?" I asked.
"He used the Rupturing Earth Palm Jutsu, I'm not sure whether he's used that technique before. I'm sure you saw his Hiding in Mist technique and he used Raging Waves too," Iruka answered.
"And did you get injured or injure him?"
"No. I think he might be a little bit more powerful than me and he does have the advantage of nature types but it seemed like he was holding back a bit. I think he was saving some chakra for the escape," Iruka suggested.
"I think you're right. Jack's forces know that we are reasonably balanced so always need to be prepared for an escape. Well, thank you for the report Iruka. Please send Rebecca over next," I said.
"Hi Rebecca. You fought against Kira didn't you? How did you do?" I asked.
"Well, he was pretty fast so I mostly just blocked but that's what my fighting style is all about anyway," Rebecca answered.
"I see. And did he display any special techniques?"
"No."
"And you didn't get injured or injure him did you?" I asked.
"No, he was so much faster than me I pretty much just blocked. I did slash at him a couple of times but he easily blocked," Rebecca explained.
"Well as long as you didn't get injured I think that's all that matters. Please send over Ikkaku," I said.
"Ikkaku, please tell me about your fight with Jidanbo," I said.
"It was pretty fun for a while. He's pretty much pure strength. He's not really slow, but he's not too fast either. He also has a ton of stamina and endurance so he'd make an excellent sparring partner," Ikkaku said happily.
"I think he could be a good ally. Did he show any techniques or was he just pure strength?" I asked.
"With his size and strength he doesn't need any fancy techniques or anything does he?" Ikkaku replied.
"His size can be a bit of a disadvantage. There's more of him to hit so he should be fast too to take advantage of his power. Did you deal any damage to him?" I asked.
"Yeah, as you said, he was a bit slow so I managed to get some hits in on him. Mostly they were small cuts for someone his size but I did some deeper ones too," Ikkaku explained.
"How bad were the cuts?" I asked.
"With his size and endurance it didn't seem like a problem but he will need to heal them," Ikkaku answered.
"Okay. Please send in Usopp now," I said.
"Hi Usopp. How did your fight with Boze go?" I asked.
"Oh man, it was so scary. I tried to keep my distance but he kept on coming closer. His magic was ranged but I think he realised I had a larger range," Usopp answered.
"I see. And what techniques did you notice from him?" I asked.
"He shot out musical notes but I always shot them down before they got close. He also managed to shoot down my attacks before they reached him," Usopp said.
"So neither of you injured the other?" I asked.
"Nope," Usopp answered.
"Thank you. You may go now," I said and finished making my reports, then handed them in to the police station.
