Chương 18: A Meeting
In the months leading up to the heavily anticipated training start of the Fifth and Sixth group, the leading figures of the facility meet in their usual place.
(Shinobi): "It's been another month already…. "
(Old scientist): "Yes, but this month has been pretty stale for my team. The results from the finishing of the First, Third and Fourth group are in. None of them are of any scientific meaning. Of course some of them still have the potential to become strong Shinobi in the future. Your people should have probably already reported that to you."
(Shinobi): "Out of the 30 children only 5 are worthy to be nurtured with full resources according to my Jonins."
(Old scientist): "Oh! We have only marked down 4. Who else do you have?"
(Shinobi): "Subject A12.f has shown signs to be highly Chakra sensitive. My sensor-nin here told me that the subject has a good chance to become a full sensor in the future. With her other skills being above average we see a great potential that she is going to reach at least an average Jonin level"
(Old scientist): "I guess that went under our radar. Also after evaluating all the data from the inheriting of the Kekkei Genkai, affinities and the amount of Chakra we were able to conclude that it's basically a 50% chance to inherit it from the father or mother side. The overall final power level is still hard to forecast but we predict that with the right training every subject will be able to reach average Jonin level before the age of 20."
(Shinobi): "That is not really anything new, isn't it. Everything is basically known, just never proven. If I were to report this like you just told me then this base would be shut down. You know how hard it was to convince the village elders and clan chiefs to finance this little operation. We were able to catch two birds with one stone with this base. They only allowed this operation because hiding, the kidnapping of pregnant women and the resulting babies, would be hard in the five elemental nation region. And with the position of the cave here we were able to convince everybody to build this facility here.
But if I were to report the thing just like you said it to me, they would question the tens of millions of ryo they put into this base. In the last instructions I received, I was ordered to HALF my Shinobi force and send one half back home to the war!
Let's just hope that the next two groups are a success."
(Old scientist): "The Fifth and Sixth group are both receiving their toughening training currently and three subject breaked which resulted in a try to run away. We were able to catch them of course but are there any other problems in these groups?"
(Shinobis, flipping through the report cards of every child): "Nothing special…
The Terumi girl is accepting the training without any resistance and sometimes being in the top 3 of the mixed group. We hope that she is able to show a strong version of her clan's Boil release. After sending back her report card the Terumi's already stated that if she has a strong version of their Kekkei Genkai that they want her back.
What a bunch of hypocrites…
First throwing her in here and then bringing her back as soon as she becomes useful. She still has her little reading friend… That kid is just average and will probably just track her down."
(Old scientist): "He was the last addition to the program, just extra… We captured his mother by accident and we were surprised that she was able to withstand the injections. When she arrived here the chance of her giving birth to a healthy baby was 6,4%. The next closest we had a birth from was a 21,3% chance. But that boy is just nothing special…
There is still hope that we awaken any form of Kekkei Genkai in him by accident."
(Shinobi): "How high is the chance for that. A random mutation and it being a useful Kekkei Genkai…"
(Old scientist): "Small, extremely small but that's what we are doing here. The other project is proceeding without any problems. We are on timeline and the first small extraction into seals or tissue were successful, when with a violent response, but everything in line with the prediction. I hope we will start with insects and small animals in the next months.
Did you get the permit to use prisoners from the small villages who tried to spy on us?"
(Shinobi): "No, we are still disguised as a trading outpost here. If the nearby villages report back to the local lords we will just get run over by sheer numbers. Also what they call 'Knights' here is really familiar with the samurais. We are currently holding them as prisoners and are in talks with the lord of this region to negotiate to release them. We are charging them with industrial spying and sabotaging. Of course it's just a facade so that they don't get suspicious of our doings here."
(Old scientist): "What about the failures of the breeding project? Am I allowed to use them?"
(Shinobi): "Maybe… the leaders are not sure yet. Of course all the useful ones are sent back by the age of 8 to start the academy in Kiri. The First group should be old enough right about the time we test the Fifth and Sixth group. After we finish that test, we were instructed to make a big report about the facility and it will be judged from that, how we are supposed to proceed afterwards. One of my closest friends one the council said that some even discussing on raping up the whole opperation here if that report is going to be bad again!"
(Old scientist): "I guess we have to use the time until then… "
