Chương 7: Gem at Ashton's (1)

Ferma was a task taker. She would go around the universe to fulfill people's wishes. Today, her quest was to go to another world and find the yellow gem. The yellow gem was something that the person who requested for Ferna to get it back wanted a lot. The gem was something her mom gave to her before her mom died. It was stolen away from her, though, and before she could get it back, she died. Her obsession to find it was big enough for her soul to come to Ferna's shop. Fulfilling the regrets of every soul who comes to the shop was her job, so today she was going to fulfill her wish.

Going through the portal, she came into a world. The moment she came in, she looked at her watch. She wasn't afraid of anybody seeing her because she had 10 minutes of invisibility after landing in this world. Looking at her watch, she got all the information she needed about this world. Her watch wasn't any ordinary watch. It was connected to her shop and the people there could check-in to see if she was alright. Dying in this world means that she would actually die. She would turn into a soul and never become human again. This is why the watch is very important.

Another reason was that it contains all the information about the world that she could find. On her watch, it told her that this world was called Plat. The world was in the era of a modern yet not modern time. They had cars (not the old types), computers, phones, and T.Vs. But this world also stressed the importance of strength. The reason why it is like that is because this world just came out of a battle with animals who were evolving. Instead of the cute little dogs in your home, they evolved into man-eating dogs. Now, humans and evolved animals live together.

100 years had already passed since the battle, and people already almost recreated their previous civilization. But because of the evolved animals still being alive, people were required to train their bodies. The government put up quests that would reward you money if you complete it. This was to motivate you to train.

But because the threat of the evolved animals wasn't that dangerous, the countries of the world weren't united anymore. This caused a war to happen between countries. The city she was in now was taken over by another country.

Ferna looked at the soldiers patrolling everywhere and at the pedestrians that had fearful looks on their faces. Even if people trained, no one would not be fearful when there is a possibility of death. This can make many people lose their passion to rebel.

She sighed at the pedestrians that wore fearful expressions on their faces and felt that her 10 minutes of invisibility was almost gone. She needed to get somewhere safe before anyone saw her.

She went to an alley and when her invisibility vanished, she walked out. She pretended to be fearful of the soldiers in order not to stand out. Keeping the fearful look on her face, she walked to the quest store. This took around 30 minutes.

Because the quest store was important, it was a universal agreement that even in the time of war, the quest store shouldn't be affected. In order to make sure it wouldn't be affected, the quest stores were always built far away from any buildings. It was basically in the middle of nowhere.

When she got there, no soldiers were patrolling which made her finally able to take off the fearful expression on her face. She sat down somewhere near the quest store and looked around to check again if there were no soldiers. There wasn't so she relaxed. The reason why she went here was that it was the only safe place right now. She needed a safe place to stay for a while to check for more information on her watch. Looking at her watch again, she found that the yellow gem was in a store called "Ashton SuperMarket."

She searched up the location of it on her watch and found that the store was close to here. But getting inside and coming out alive from there was a big problem. The store was sometimes called "The Death Store."

The reason why it was sometimes called that was because the soldiers guarding outside the door were the worst of the worst. There were no laws about killing in this city, so they killed people for fun. But the SuperMarket was the only market in this city (the other markets were burned down during the takeover of the city) so people had to go to that market to buy food.

Ferna reviewed everything about the store and felt that to get out of there safely, she couldn't go in there alone. She needed someone to accompany her. Looking at the quest store, she found out how to get someone to accompany her.

She walked inside the quest store and met someone at the counter.

"Hello there. Can you please tell me what you're skilled in and I will lead you to the quests which fit you," the woman at the counter said.

"Oh, that's not what I came here for. I already have a quest, but I need some people to join me in order to complete it," Ferna told the woman.

It was kinda the truth. She had a quest which she needed to complete, but it wasn't the quest which you would see in a quest store. It was her own personal quest.

"Well, you see those 3 people over there," the woman said while pointing at the 3 people, "They have a quest they want to complete too, but it needs one more person. You can ask them to help in your quest and you'll help in their quest, too. It's a win-win situation. You can go over there and ask them right now."

I thanked the woman and walked over to the 3 people. One of them was a woman and the other two were men. I told them my situation and how we could help each other and they agreed. After that, we started to introduce ourselves.

"My name is Ferna. The quest I need to complete involves going to Ashton SuperMarket. Is that fine with you," Ferna told them.

They glanced at each other and agreed.

"My name is Theria. This is John," Theria said, pointing at a good-looking guy with black hair. He had a square type face and brown eyes.

"This is Mike," Theria introduced while pointing at a good-looking, tall, brown-haired guy. He had eyes that spelled indifference and an oval-shaped face. One look and you could tell he was a cold person.

"I'll be the leader, okay. Is that fine with you?" Theria said to Ferna.

Ferna was fine with it because all she needed was the yellow gem. The group was then made and were on their way to the Ashton SuperMarket, or "The Death Store."
