Chương 3: Chapter 3

The Wendigo having gone back to fetch it's previous hunt it left behind to not alert a possible foe, was currently standing over the two creatures pensively.

Although it would usually avoid the unknown, it had still retained a certain curiosity no matter how many times it had gotten into trouble because of it. It wasn't all bad though, it wouldn't have survived if it stayed in it's cave back when it was born. Curiosity had also brought many benefits aswell, on it's first hunt (if it can even be called that with how unexperienced it was) it managed to snag a meal by following the various sounds of nature eventually stumbling upon numerous slain beasts strewn around a clearing, further away the sounds of fighting, growls and howls sounded out.

Even newborn, it's instincts was warning it of danger. Not that the then small Wendigo knew that was what it was, but a sense of foreboding stopped it from advancing further, settling on dragging one of the dead animals back to it's cave. Somehow finding it's way back to the cave dragging the creature behind it the Wendigo settled down, wondering about the various things it had seen on it's excursion. It wasn't much later that the Wendigo's stomach grumbled, looking over it's 'hunt' it let it's instincts take over. Pouncing on the carcass and taking a big bite, it's sharp jagged teeth ripping through it's flesh, the Wendigo was hit with a feeling of contentment and dug in.

Later, finished with it's meal and sated for now, the Wendigo was hit with a wave of sleepiness. Letting out a small yawn the Wendigo settled down, moving around slightly to adjust it's position before snoozing off. The next day however it woke up to a surprise, it had seemingly unlocked something that hadn't been there before gaining instinctive knowledge of it's new ability the Wendigo looked at it's right arm, which was slightly bulkier than the day before, also having taken on a slightly different coloring resembling the creature it ate yesterday...

Emerging from it's thoughts the Wendigo looked at the 'sheep.' Before deciding to just drag both of the creatures back to it's cave.

Having lumbered it's way back to it's current home, the Wendigo put it's recent hunt on the ground and sat down in thought. What would it gain by eating the 'sheep'? Would it gain a bit more color on it's otherwise dark body consisting mostly of dark browns, maybe something it couldn't see? Looking it over, the Wendigo didn't remember having seen anything resembling the creature before. It didn't look very threatening, but the Wendigo had learnt not to trust the appearance of other creatures from back when it saw a generally harmless looking creature spit something that reduced the surrounding terrain to a bubbling mess, even if it wouldn't have done very much, the Wendigo made sure not to repeat the same mistake.

Deciding that it wouldn't find out without actually eating it, the Wendigo dug in. After finishing it's meal the Wendigo was hit with the familiar feeling of drowsiness. Although it was possible to resist, the Wendigo didn't really have much to do outside of hunting, sleeping, exploring the surrounding area or the occasional fight. It also helped that the Wendigo was fond of just relaxing, peering out at the surrounding forest, the slightly gloomy atmosphere caused by the shadows helping it relax. Slowly laying down in a comfortable position and letting sleep gradually take over, the Wendigo was confident in it's senses to warn it in case of danger.

.

Gradually waking up still immersed in the fog of sleep, the Wendigo blinked slightly clearing it's sight before properly sitting up with a low grumble of sleepy exertion sounding slightly gluttural in nature as most of it's noises did. Now slightly more awake the Wendigo blearily registered something new in it's sight, leisurely floating slightly in front of it's muzzle following it's head movement to stay in sight was a slightly glowing rectangle with words it did not understand.

Tilting it's head slightly it's frankly terrifying mind started to process the new foreign symbols, gradually gaining an understanding... picking apart the words and putting them together again in a way it could understand. This didn't mean however that the Wendigo could now speak the language written, it mind simply processed the information into something else, it would be more fitting to say that it was reading the 'intent' behind the words rather than the words themselves.

'...Bad?'

Still processing the situation the Wendigo's first thought was whether it was something that would hinder it in any way, during the 3 years it had been hunting and feasting on various beasts, the Wendigo did not only gain positive traits from the creatures it consumed though it's body quickly learned to filter out the negatives. Even if it was confident that it's body would eventually get rid of it if it was bad, it hadn't encountered anything like it before, so it was a bit on guard.

'...?'

Content with watching the floating slightly glowing rectangle window in front of it with a tilted head, the Wendigo was waiting, to see if anything would happen.

With nothing happening and curiosity filling it the Wendigo started experimenting. Poking it showed that the window would always keep a certain distance from the tip of it's finger, even if the Wendigo reached out to it's full length the window would always hover just slightly away from it's touch, slowly floating back in front of it's muzzle when it retracted it's hand.

Taking a different approach, the Wendigo started to mentally prod the window, picturing a hand reaching out and poking it which surpisingly worked, the window leaning back where it was 'touched' by the hand, wobbling slightly before returning to it's previous position.

"Mn..." Letting out a slight hum that others might mistake for a deep growl, the Wendigo decided to do as the window said. Mentally pressing the spot indicated, a new window popped up...
