Chương 24: A Less than Satisfying Seminar

"First, congratulations on passing." A man in a rather gaudy suit with barely brushed hair addressed everyone who passed.

Everyone who passed merely included me, Saitama and Genos.

A surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one. It makes it easier, and I would rather others not try to make friends simply because we both passed. Assuming that's what they'd do at least.

Saitama seemed relaxed mixed with relief. He even took the time to chew gum despite the rather serious aura the man in the gold-patched suit tried to give off.

He had offered me some, which I declined, and Genos had also declined, saying he was worried about it being caught somewhere.

"Now, one of you only made it by pure luck." The man had eyed more toward Saitama.

Of course, I knew who this man was. I had made sure to research beforehand on every hero B Class and above. As much as I would love to remember more C Classes, I only remember the important ones.

Learning 100 heroes is hard enough, learning over 400 is nigh-impossible for any human mind.

"Unless you want your luck to go to waste, I better see you giving it your all."

The man was named Snek, or rather Snakebite Snek, based off of the name of his martial art that I have never heard of.

"And don't get cocky! From here on, keep your hero status in mind and act modestly!" I could sense he was starting to get irritated with Saitama's half-assed attitude.

Of course, I wasn't really paying attention either, he was just quite loud, and I find it hard to ignore loud things. Not to mention I was rather good at hiding it.

That, however, didn't mean anything compared to his voice. Despite its volume it was also rather boring to listen to. Like, I am pretty sure I could fall asleep if I wanted.

Saitama must have perfected the art though, as I noticed his eyes may have looked right at Snek, but in reality they looked straight through, off into whatever he was thinking of.

"After all, your faces will be placed on the Hero Association website." He seemed to finish off his rather snide berating of us. Though that was mostly because he was sure he wasn't quite getting through to Saitama.

"Did you hear me? That goofball head of yours is gonna be shown to the whole world."

My view of this hero went down significantly the more he spoke. Despite his speech of not getting cocky, he seemed to have gotten rather cocky himself.

He seemed to want to continue, but I decided to cut him off before his ego started to lift him off the ground.

"Shut it buddy, we came here for whatever shitty seminar you got so just tell us what we should actually know instead of trying to show off." I usually don't speak like this, but he was getting on my nerves.

And I tend to get rather yakuza-like when I am on the angrier side.

Maybe 'cause of my mom...

"What did you say?" He seemed extremely angry at that.

"Look, I don't care how cool you think you are, get on it or we're gonna have some problems!" My words came off sharp with an intimidating growl beneath them.

I stood up in my anger knocking my chair over.

Getting this angry wasn't usually in my character file, but I could feel more anger rile me up as my eyes shifted to yellow, then to orange.

He probably didn't notice the change, but Genos certainly had.

"You'll have problems with me? I'll have you know, as an A Class hero, I hold some influence over the association. I'll make sure those behaving irresponsibly...

"Lose points and get demoted!" Snek threatened.

My grip had started to crack the table.

My eyes turned red.

"You can't do shit, you bastard. You're trash who got to Class A by sheer luck! You're like 5 times weaker than the top of Class B, and still at least 2 times weaker than number 3!

"I am gonna turn you to stardust, you slimy undergrowth bastard!" My rage was getting ahead of me.

I don't know how I got here, but I was releasing something pent up on this guy.

I had already thrown the desk I was sitting at rather violently at the wall next to Snek. The desk slammed loudly but didn't break since metal was holding it together.

Before I could act anymore, I felt a cold hand touch my shoulder.

"Fukui." Genos snapped me out of my weird rage.

"Ah... sorry." I apologized to a rather shocked Snek.

"That usually doesn't happen, I must have had some anger pent up from somewhere. Sorry to take it out on you." I bowed politely.

"Mmhmmm." Snek recollected himself as a slightly less confident demeanor took over again.

"I suppose I should get to what you'll be doing as heroes."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All three of us headed home after the seminar.
I had learned that apparently the Hero Association was made when some millionaire's kid was attacked by a monster, but was then saved by a passerby.
It sounded somewhat similar to Saitama's story, but I don't see why some millionaire's kid would be out in the playground with no supervision.
After we walked a bit further we split off, but not before Genos claimed his free membership as a disciple of Saitama.
As me and him walked back to our apartment I struck up a conversation.
"Man, what would you even teach Genos? I know you trained a lot, and have some good hand-to-hand combat... not that you need it anymore, but it's good otherwise. Anyway, that's all you really have, it's not like a cyborg can just train their body. Not to mention I am pretty sure his hand-to-hand is fine."
"Exactly my idea. I don't think he exactly thought it through when he saw me kill that mosquito."
"Wait, you killed a mosquito and he asked to be your disciple?" I was rather put off about that.
"It was a huge one."
'I am not sure what he means, but if it's a monster mosquito I guess I can see why? Not really though, the only mosquito monsters I met were really weak... Monsters are weird though, so who cares.'
"Fair enough."
We walked in silence for a bit, I could see that Saitama had something on his mind when he sprung something on me.
"I don't think I wanted to be this kind of hero..."
"Well it's better than before, we're getting paid to beat people up after all. Or I guess monsters."
We both heard footsteps coming from the grass near us, to which we turned our attention.
"The seminar for rookies is not over!" He flipped through the air and stopped in front of us, blocking the path.
We could walk around but I am pretty sure he wasn't letting us.
"In this business there's a thing called rookie crushing. A lot of heroes hate to be outranked, so we crush newbies early on."
I could see him getting ready for one of the most telegraphed attacks since that caterpillar-train-monster.
"Like this!"
He snaked his hands toward us, or more specifically Saitama. Having already seen it though I shut it down easily by deflecting his corkscrew punch to the side and kicking him in the holy place.
His legs were wide open, it was a prime opportunity and of course I took it.
"I could have taken care of it." Saitama raised an eyebrow at me. Though I could see a hint of a wince every time he glanced down at a shaken snake.
"I know, I just wanted to kick him."
We left him there, neither of us wanted to help the guy.
--------------------------------------------------------
A/N: So I made Fukui a bit more violent...
I am not sure if it's good to just do that...? But I did, so you're all dealing with it.
Tell me if you liked it or hated it. I honestly won't care either way, but feedback is good.
