Chương 14: Daddy issues.
I stopped by the living room to pick up my bag before I left for my room.
Last year, Uncle Mark landed a big contract and when it went through, he moved my room upstairs.
Got me my own bedroom, toilet and walk in closet.
Of course aunt Mary wasn't happy with it. She disagreed strongly but uncle Mark told her if Chloe ever stopped by unexpectedly and wants to see my room, would I take her to the small cramped laundry room?
What would that paint aunt Mary has.
After that, she didn't complain anymore. Instead, she laid down a condition.
I would never step foot into my new room unless Chloe comes over.
Which is obviously never.
So I'd still be in the laundry room, but only show Chloe my 'new' room incase she comes over. And when she leaves, back to the laundry room.
And there, it was settled. I only get to enter if Chloe comes over.
But she has never stopped by, so the room is still as it was a year ago.
New and untouched.
As I reach my bed, my phone rings. I sigh and I reach to take it from my bag.
I didn't have a phone, so Chloe got me one. I declined but she insisted.
When I got home, aunt Mary found out and she smashed it.
Chloe got me another phone and aunt Mary smashed it. Again.
I told her not to bother anymore since aunt Mary keeps smashing it. But the next day, she came with her to dad personally hand me the phone in the presence of my aunt.
As she gave me the phone, Chloe had this look on her face directed to my aunt.
'I dare you to smash this one and see if my dad won't ruin you.'
I could never forget it.
"Hey Chloe."
"I am so sorry for just calling now. When I got back from the party on Saturday, I was so tired and weak. it was like my brain was on reset." She rambles.
Thank goodness for hangovers.
"It's fine." I rub my head.
"But you don't sound fine."
"I'm just-" I pause.
How do I put this? I'm just tired of being bullied by my cousin and aunt? I'm just tired of being abused by my uncle? I'm just tired of not being loved? I'm just tired of living?
"You are just what?" Her question interuppted my thoughts.
"Tired." I sigh. "I'm just tired."
"Why don't you come over? My brother just called that he's on his way home and I want you to meet him."
"Can't I see him tomorrow? He goes to our school doesn't he?"
"Yeah he does but you have been schooling together for two years now and you still haven't met him. This is the first time in weeks since he has come home." She whines.
It is true. I haven't set eyes on her brother since two years ago. From what I heard, he's a quiet one and likes going unnoticed. Has a best friend who likes being the center of everything.
Haven't met either of them though.
"Why?" I ask confused.
"He said he's in the area and he wanted to come visit."
"Doesn't he live with you guys?"
"Daddy issues." She says and I nod in understanding.
I knew something was wrong the first time Mr Hart talked about his son.
"So will you come?" She asks again.
"I'm sorry Chole. I have homework and I'm seriously tired." I sigh.
"But you always do your homework when you get home immediately. What did you do during the weekend?"
Sleep in an hospital.
"Here and there. Helped my aunt."
"But you said she's out for the weekend." She reminds me.
So that's why I didn't see her.
"Yeah, she left some chores." I lie.
"I really don't like your aunt."
"I don't get to choose my family." I sigh.
I don't like lying, but I couldn't possibly tell the truth.
She'll ask questions, and I don't have the time and strength to answer them.
"So that means I'll see you tomorrow?" She asks lowly.
"Yes Chloe, that means you'll see me tomorrow " I conclude.
"Bye then. I'll tell my brother you hate him." She sings and I chuckle.
"I haven't even met him yet."
"Makes it better." She says and hangs up.
I stare at the phone for a while, my thoughts starts to trail off before I snap out of it.
I get up, take some clothes and walk to the guest room to have a shower.
