Hearing Ilya say that he had it hard in life made Vhelian feel guilty. Compared to her sufferings, he experienced luxury. Compared to what she was forced to endure, he was living a life free from the worries of the needy. 

Rather than be comforted, Vhelian couldn't stomach the thought that it was him who was being appeased. He felt like those Nobles who loved trampling the honor of the people trying to kiss their feet. 

"And, this is only the start of your journey. You're young, so you know little to nothing about the world. There will come a time when you'll be at a loss on what's the right thing to do. That's why it's important to think about yourself first. It's alright to be selfish as long as you're not involving the lives of the innocent."
