"I want to give my share to Ben." Evelyn's words rang in each and every person's ears.
Everyone was shocked by her words, Zoe couldn't help but ask. "Evelyn, are you sure? We are in this together, you know?"
"No, I'm sure of myself. Ben has saved my life multiple times, I really don't know what will happen to us in the future, so this is my way of showing my gratitude." Evelyn was determined in what she was about to do."
"Evelyn, trust me, I'm okay with what I have and what I'll be getting soon. You can keep..."
"Evelyn's right, Ben. We can't possibly not give you anything for saving our lives back there, that's why I and Cush had already decided to give you half of our rewards to you." Zoe said, Jerry words was even another shocker for Ben.
"Okay, guys guys, calm down a second. I really appreciate what you're trying to do but I really don't need it. Evelyn, you'll need that money to make your alchemy training go smooth cuz without it, you won't get anywhere if you're broke and have nothing. And Zoe, that money would definitely be of some use to you in some way. Cush, seriously. You are the captain who led five people to one of the most dangerous missions in all of Moonlight with only two casualties, well, Sye doesn't count, so it's one casualty. I don't know if anyone can beat that record. Guys, once again, I appreciate what you are trying to do but you all need them too." after that his short speech they were all silent, reminiscing over what he said.
"C'mon lad, I won't let you go if you can't even take one percent from all of us. It would really not settle well with me. To tell you the truth, I admire your spirit, you treated us as friends when you barely knew us and taught us things the elves consider precious. Now that is trust... in us." Cush broke the silence after some time then silence ensued again.
"*sign* Alright. If you all truly insist." Ben finally agreed.
They decided that they all take 23% while Ben gets 31%. When they returned they were handed gold cards that held a huge sum of money. Ben looked at his and saw an amount holding close to a million.
As for why they were given a gold card, Ben was quick to know that these cards were no different than credit cards from his previous life. The problem to Ben wasn't the gold card but that there aren't any Galleries around in this world too. One can only go to the bank to cash out their money.
Once they received their rewards they wanted to throw a party celebrating their glorious victory on their mission inside one of the best restaurant in town.
They booked an inn and freshened up before heading out for the night.
"My goddess, this is relaxing." Zoe sighed.
"Tell me about it. Almost a month... in the wastelands can drive you... crazy. Have I... ever told how much... I love the bustling... city, ah. " Cush said between bites of his roasted sheep leg.
"Then why become a Hunter?"Evelyn asked. "You could have just remained in the city."
"Nict's beard! Then how else will I enjoy myself if I can't make the money to enjoy myself."
""Hahaha!"" both Evelyn and Zoe laughed. Only Ben was left out in the laughter. They also didn't bother disturbing him, they all knew he wasn't happy as it is.
Luckily for the group they didn't have to cash out their money which they got from the reward since they had a lot of things they could sell, it also didn't take them long to get the money they needed.
The four ate, drank and chat for a long time till late before they all left to the various places they had rented. Cush didn't rent a room in any inn, instead he went towards the red-light district. He was planning to relieve the pent up stress he had throughout their mission. *cough* *cough*.
Ben's shoulder has completely healed except for some soreness, apart from that he was good now, so he had to remove the bandage around it. Ben took off his clothes and undid the bandage. He stretched and began practicing the posture found in the Relief Posture Sculpture. Ten minutes later he heard a knock.
"Hold on." he got up and walked to the door and unlocked it. Ben was surprised by who he met, he was actually thinking it was the receptionist coming to tell them of something they had forgotten. Instead it was... "Evelyn? What are you doing here?" Ben really didn't know why she was there by such a late hour.
Evelyn, on the other hand wasn't able to have a good rest over the last three days because of a discussion she was having with herself. She knew quite well that she hadn't thanked Ben properly for giving her a second chance to live.
She was well aware her family, mentor and friends have all lost hope in her, since someone with an unstable spell model is only doomed to an early grave, no matter how one sees it.
Her family had had intentions of marrying her off to some clan's heir just so she wouldn't be completely useless to the family. It may seem like a senseless idea, but once she gets married, she wouldn't be allowed to wield spells, this will guarantee that at least her beauty will be used to please the young man who might not be a wizard himself. Or, if in luck, she would be married to either a Second-level or Third-level Spellcaster.
But, what will happen now? How will her friends and family look at her, someone who was at the brink of death?
She has finally made her resolve that no matter what, she will give Ben her all. Not some nobody who didn't pass through the hell she and Ben passed through. Or some nobody who just doesn't deserve her love like Ben does. And today, being the last day they might ever see each other, this will be her only chance.
"Can I come in?" she asked in a smallish voice.
"Sure, sure. Sorry for keeping you outside. Please come in." Ben said opening the door wide for her.
Evelyn was momentarily stunned when she saw Ben's toned muscles and abs. It was only ten minutes yet Ben was sweating all over himself. She became so mesmerized that she forgot to step inside.
"Ahem." Ben's fake cough brought her back to the present. She stepped in with a blushed face.
"Here, have a seat. So what happened? Can't get some sleep?" Ben smiled at her as she sat down opposite him.
"Well, I couldn't get some sleep because I wanted to talk to you." Evelyn said with her head lowered.
"What about? Couldn't it wait till the morning?"
"No, not really. Since we will all be parting ways tomorrow, I don't think I'll be able to get another chance."
"Okay, I'm all ears."
"Ben I see you are from a well trained family, so why? Why do you have to become a blacksmith or a Hunter. They aren't needed in the line of wizardry. Why did you have to risk your life to save mine, why..." she wanted to continue but got chucked on her tears, crying.
Ben frown not understanding the situation but he had two things in mind. However, right now there's a friend in need of a shoulder. Ben stood from his seat and went to sit with her in her cushion and hugged her. Good thing the cushion was big enough to contain them both and still retain some room.
Her head leaned on his shoulder while she cried. Ben held her head and pat her back to comfort her. He actually understood exactly what she was feeling right now. He knew the feeling of looking eyeball to eyeball with death.
Now, however, words won't be enough to ease the pain of almost dying. Even though he had really died and got another chance by coming into this world of sword and magic, he knew everyone isn't that lucky. Right?
"Ben, can you allowed me to show how grateful I am to you." Evelyn stood before Ben. Her hands started loosening her night robe. Hey shoulder was becoming a lot more visible. It was smooth like jade and fair.
Ben never expected such an outcome, even though he had fantasized himself making out with such a beautiful lady in the middle of the woods, he never once behaved like a pervert about it. Yet, seeing it and imagining it are two different things entirely.
"Evelyn, what are you doing? You shouldn't be doing this." Ben moved fast to stop her from revealing anymore skin.
"Ben, I'd rather it be you, than some unknown, unloving and unworthy bastard. I won't be... mmm"
Evelyn got cut off as Ben's lips crashed into hers. She got so tense by the sudden reaction from Ben that she only stood there. A few moments later she felt something wet rubbing against her lips, wanting to pry it open.
Her heart was racing crazily in her chest. Yes! He accepted me. She shouted in her head. Evelyn didn't want to stop here either, so slowly, she opened her mouth. She felt his tongue moving inside of her, she could taste his masculine taste in her and was glad.
They kissed passionately for more than five minutes until they were used to each others movement. Ben was forced to break the kiss to let Evelyn breath in some air. She had literally forgotten to breath inbetween their kissing.
Evelyn's face was was so red it looked like all the blood in her body gathered on her head, he wondered if that was even healthy for her. But that didn't matter right now, as of now, two people only had eyes for each other and nothing else.
Ben took Evelyn into the room and spent the rest of the night in sessions after sessions of battles. These two were going at it till past two in the morning until they were well spent.
They laid together cuddling each other in the bed. In her sleep Evelyn has a blissful smile on her face.
"Thank you for accepting me... My heart. My love." she mumbled.
