Chương 36: 36 A Mother's Gift

***

Specially trained warriors in silver armour unlike any guard found in the city made their way into the forest as they were led by a man in shiny majestic black armour. This was none other than Lord Williams and his trainer men. Some of them were even old friends who had shed blood in the battle field together.

Being one of the luckiest warriors during the great battle against the Horde of demon creatures to gain a territory, he housed some of his close friends who weren't given a title. He wasn't the only soldier who did this as other men did the same.

Lord Williams already received the messages from the Runners. Unadulterated anger was released and his aura spewed out slamming the two Runners to the wall. Not caring about the two embedded on his wall he immediately gathered some of his personal army. Old Williams just couldn't understand why. It hasn't been long but his son was attacked again. He had the urge to lock Ben up forever so such troubles will never come, but first he has to go get Ben as fast as possible. Old Williams mounted his black stallion war horse with his men and rode into the forest.

Ben was currently making his way back home in leisure as he heard large numbers of soldiers running towards him at full speed until they bumped into him.

"Ben! You're okay! Did they hurt you? Did they as much as touch you? I swear I'm going to kill each and every one of them." Old Williams clamored as soon as he saw Ben. He jumped off his war horse and rushed to Ben. This showed how much Lord Williams loves Ben.

"Father, I'm okay and not hurt, I'm sorry I made you worried, dad. As you can see I am well alive and kicking." Ben said with warmth in his heart returning the old man's hug.

"It's good that you're okay. Now where are they? off your tail? or did they run off? Humph! I won't give them the chance to escape my pursuit. Men! surround the woods in a fifty mile radius, give them no chance to run away!" Lord Williams gave a cold snort and ordered.

"Father, that won't be necessary." said Ben.

"Why's that Benjamin?" Old Williams asked looking surprised.

"I think it'll be better if I just show you." Ben decided to bring them to where all the bandits were.

Looking at the injured men and women, a body laying motionless on the floor with an arrow on his chest, probable dead they couldn't help but wonder who did this. All eyes feel on Ben.

...

In the mansion Anna, Sandra, Eden (Anna's and Sandra's mother), Lord Williams and Ben are sitting round the dining table as they had lunch with smiling faces. Ben has returned for over a week now after the practical examination program that has gone for two weeks. He told his family all he encountered even showing them his new found powers. He gave the same lame unreasonable reason about being fed a lot of elemental seeds. Thankfully they didn't press the matter thinking maybe Ben war right.

"Ben, meet me in my office once you're done here." Old Williams said as he stood up from the main seat and it's straight into the study.

"Ben, could you please make another snowball. Pretty, pretty please." Sandra who had been restless the whole lunch squeaked once their father war completely gone from eyeshot.

Ben knew his father had left the table so he could play with his new found powers with his siblings. They all knew this too. He stretched out his hand above the table and formed three fist size snowballs and handed them over to Sandra. After some time he too got up then left for his father's study.

"Thought I'd have to drag your ass here if you didn't come Abby sooner." although it sounded like scolding Ben could still see the love in his eyes.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting dad." Ben smiled.

Old Williams turned and faced a large portrait of he, Ben and his first wife; Ben's mother. Even as he remarried Ben's mother wax the first woman he'd ever met and fallen in love with. Eden didn't mind at all because she understood. And that's what made him love her too.

"You'll soon be going into another world son," Old Williams paused and looked at Ben before continuing "I have something to tell you. In this world, our main enemy isn't only the demon creatures or the bandits or the rest, they can be found everywhere you go, I guess you might not know that considering you grew up in the mansion. But, my point is... humans can go an extra mile just to get what they want, even if it is to kill a fellow human and which in your case is inevitable. This life for every man who has a profession life isn't a bed of roses because blood is also red, this means you'll get your hands stained, and again, especially in your case," Old Williams paused then brought out a box from one of his drawer, holding the box a smile played on his face "all this I learnt from your mother. She left a few things for you, I never thought you'd ever need them. Also one reason I was trying really hard so you'd become an elemental swordsman and not hmm... " he sighed holding the box like it was some sort of egg that might fall at any moment "...and not a wizard like your mother,"

BOOM!

It was like an explosion had just taken place in Ben's head. Even though this body has been replaced by another soul, there is a saying that says 'blood is thicker than water'. The blood flowing in this body was of this world.

"My mom was a wizard?" he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want to lose you too."

Old Williams gave Ben some time to digest this shocking information. After a minute or two Ben calmed down.

"How did you guys know each other? As far as I know wizards wouldn't like to come to such a small city like Carolin city." asked Ben.

"Yes that's true indeed, as a matter of fact I had always despised wizards, always thinking themselves high and mighty than every other human being. In fact, their arrogance is off the charts. And that was when I knew the weak were always the prey, even in the wizard's world. Then I had just advanced to the First-level elementary swordsmanship and I went to fight a few demon creatures for tough training, I never knew I'll stumble over a few men besieging a single girl. She was so beautiful I lost the grip of my sword..."

"Hehe..." Ben chuckled when he saw the old man's eyes being infatuated by the beauty of his memories.

"...silence, I'm talking here."

"Sorry..." Ben said as he smiled at the old man in love.

"Humph, where was I, ah, she was a real beauty I tell you. I had to save her from their hands but I couldn't, this was because although we were all at the First-level of our profession they were a lot more stronger. Then I thought of a way to save her, avalanche, but I didn't have to. The fight had attacked a few demon creatures, Late Servant Class creatures. She was bloody and could barely stand any more, I guess it was shear will power, a powerful one of I must say. When she was beginning to lose her grounds from their destructive spells, she was blasted with lightning from the sky, one of the wizards most deadliest spell. But yet she still survived. I had to admit that if I was the one in her place I would be dead, like say twelve times, instead she was severely injured, and her breathing was heavy. That was when a Redstone Beat came in. The men felt it would be useless to kill her so they just let the Redstone Beat eat her, they immediately left so she could be eaten alive," when Old Williams said this the temperature suddenly plummeted down, Ben was so angry at the moment.

"haha, yes I felt the same back then, but before I knew her attackers were gone in a blink of an eye, That was when I stepped in to bravely fight the Redstone Bear. She was already unconscious by the time I got to her. And that my boy was how we met, and she kept this for you."

He opened the box and brought out a necklace tied around a black shiny smooth stone that reflected off different colours from the light, then a yellow parchment that looked really old but still alive and then a ring. It was jet black in colour. Ben picked the ring and felt his heart pound in his chest.

"That was her wizard's ring, kept everything she'd ever need in there. Kind of creepy though, how things just pop out of nowhere." Old Williams said looks like he still felt astonished how she always does that.

"If you said she was just at the First-level, how then was she able to use it, since wizards can't use a spatial ring until they reach the Second-level?" Ben learnt this from Mia during their two weeks practical training exam program.

"She was different," Old Williams said in pride but a bit sad "she was able to activate it when she entered the First-level, dumping her storage bag. Heard you got one during the Choosing and they're different most of the time." Old Williams said as though he remembered something.

Been stuck his hands into his pocket and retrieved a jet black ring, placing them both on the table. Lord Williams was surprised to see two identical rings.

"They call the school 'The Phantom', one of the best." Ben told Old Williams what he knew about the school. Well, it wasn't more than three lines anyway.

"There's a saying, 'you can't separate a mother and her child for they are bound to meet at some point'. I never thought you'd be going to the same school as your mother. Haha, Anara, if you were still around I know you'd be proud of our boy." tears rolled down the Lord's eyes as he laughed. Ben could feel his great pain. He felt pity for the old man.

"Dad, I too can activate my spatial ring." Ben suddenly spoke after Old Williams has calmed down.

"But you're not a wizard yet." Old Williams asked confusingly.

"I know, but I just can, did it in the training exams." Ben wore his own ring and flipped his palm then a book appeared.

"How can this be?" shock was all over the man's face "How long have you been a wizard, why haven't you said anything? Why didn't you tell me?" Old Williams threw questions after questions at Ben.

"Dad, I'm not a wizard yet, I think I'm what they call a genius." Ben answered scratching the back of his head.

"*sigh* your mother will certainly be very proud of you Ben... "

"Father, tell me more about my mother." Ben requested.

For the next three long hours Ben had been hearing stories his mother told his father. They were all very fascinating stories but his father said she left a lot of information about a lot more sensitive topics from him. He didn't care because no withheld information could amount to their love. Truly romantic Ben thought.

"Hah, the wizards that are to take you to your school will not come back here to gather you all. Ben, this is where your life begins; I've received a message from the Count. it is said that every Chosen in your territory will gather at you residence so they'll know their directions, yeah, they'll have to travel all be themselves to find their schools, darn wizards." Old Williams slumped on his chair as he said the last part of the message. "Tell Brianne to meet me when you go out, here, you should have this. Can't read a damn thing in it." he handed everything to Ben including the box.

Ben went to inform their butler who shouldn't be underestimated because this Butler is a powerful Second-level elemental swordsman.
