-Stone Courtyard-
Fleur and I were outside the castle in the stone courtyard, and we were the only people in the place as all the other students and teachers were having lunch in the Great Hall.
I was sitting on a marble bench next to her, looking at her serious, thoughtful expression as I waited for her to say something.
"So who will answer the questions first?" I asked, and that made her look at me.
"I don't know" she said biting her lip.
"Well, you already know what my question is" I shrugged.
"Yes, but my answer kind of has to do with the questions I want to ask you" she said, and I raised an eyebrow at that.
"Serious?" I asked, and she nodded, "Oh, in that case then wouldn't it be easier if you started by answering?"
"I think so," she replied, and then turned to look at the water fountain in front of us.
"You want to know why I pay so much attention to you and why I insisted on trying to talk to you, right?" she asked and I nodded, "Well, to answer that question I first need to tell you about my last summer vacation."
And hearing this I looked at her confused, not knowing what connection her summer vacation had with her being so obsessed with me.
"It all started when my family and I went to the Quidditch World Cup Final," she started to say, and I blinked.
'Oh... I think I see the connection now' I said to myself.
But then I remembered that it was never mentioned in the books or films that Fleur was in England to watch the World Cup final.
"Wait, you were at the Quidditch World Cup final?" I asked.
"Yes" she replied, "My father insisted that my family come and watch the match, which was strange at first"
"Why was it strange?"
"Well, he usually doesn't care about Quidditch, so it was strange that he wanted to come and watch the final match so much," she said with a shrug.
Fleur then placed a finger on her chin with a thoughtful look, "But thinking about it, I think watching the world cup final was just an excuse so he could come here to talk to your ministry about the Tri-Wizard Tournament."
"Oh, I didn't know your father was involved in recreating the tournament" I said in surprise.
"Neither did I" she said, "I only found out later because of a letter my mother sent me. And besides, I think he only wanted to get involved in the tournament because of the Flamels' presence, as he is a big fan of them."
"I see," I nodded, looking down thoughtfully.
'So it seems that Fleur being in the Quidditch World Cup final was my fault in a way'
"But back to my story" Fleur said, breaking me out of my thoughts, "My family and I came to watch the cup final, and we were going to leave the next morning... but that happened"
And I was confused not knowing what 'that' was, but hearing the heavy and tense tone in his voice, as well as his feelings of fear and apprehension, realization hit me.
"The Death Eater riot," I said, and she nodded with a sad look.
"My parents left as soon as the match ended to talk to some people from the British ministry, and my little sister, Gabrielle, and I stayed with our aunt, my mother's sister, who also came to watch the match along with her veela clan"
"The tent we were in was close to the forest and a little far from the other tents, because my aunt and her clan didn't want to be bothered by the wizards who would be attracted to their Allure."
"But our tent being closer to the forest also meant that we were further away from the aurors and ministry officials and closer to the wizards you call death eaters when they attacked."
And after saying that, Fleur stopped to breathe, and I could see the tension in her shoulders, and I understood that she was forcing herself to revisit some bad memories.
And knowing this I put my hand on her shoulder, and when Fleur turned to me she saw my sympathetic look and smiled gently at me.
Taking a deep breath Fleur then continued to retell her story, "We were all outside the tent around a fire, singing and playing, but then the screams started, and we didn't even have time to react before they appeared and set fire to our tent."
"Those... vile monsters were laughing at us, relishing in our fear and panic while saying horrible and perverted things about us, pointing their wands at us" Fleur began to tremble, not only with fear but also with anger.
"And there was nothing we could do since we were unarmed and there were many elderly women and children in the group, and I was so scared... for myself, and for my sweet Gabi"
And noticing her troubled emotions I gave Fleur a comforting squeeze on the shoulder as I approached her, showing her that she was safe and that I was there.
And that seemed to work, as I could feel her calm down a little.
However, she wasn't the only one who was reacting to this story, as the more she spoke, the more flashes of memories came to my mind of a group of veelas I saved when the death eater riot began.
And remembering this group of veela who were terrified in front of a burning tent I immediately connected the dots.
'Fleur was there... She was one of the veelas I saved' I realized.
However, without knowing my thoughts, Fleur took a deep breath and continued, "I thought that we would face a horrible fate at the hands of those monsters, that I would never see my parents again and that I would not be able to protect my little sister"
"However, when I thought everything was lost, he appeared... you appeared" and saying this she looked me straight in the eyes, "Our savior"
"I don't know what you're talking about" I lied with a calm expression, but Fleur didn't believe me.
"I understand why you want this to be kept secret, but I know it was you... I'm sure it was you" she said, and I frowned.
"And how can you be sure of that?" I asked.
"Because your magic is the same as his" she replied.
"What?" I blinked in confusion, and she shook her head with a small smile.
"You may not know, but veelas as magical creatures are sensitive to magic, and your magic that night was unforgettable for me" she said, and I frowned.
'Damn, that information wasn't in the books about veelas' I mentally cursed.
But not wanting Fleur to suspect me even more, I kept a neutral expression.
"Well you must be mistaken, I wasn't even in the Quidditch World Cup final" I tried to lie with a shrug.
"I know that's a lie, your friend Lily already told me she saw you there" Fleur said with an amused smile, and again I cursed in my mind.
"Lily you little traitor" I grumbled, which made the veela girl smile even more.
"And besides, your magic isn't the only thing that makes me sure you're my savior... I know you're him because of your eyes" she said.
"My eyes?" I asked.
"Yes, the hood may have been covering your face that night, but your bright eyes were still as noticeable as the moon itself in the dark sky." she said, looking deep into my eyes as she smiled softly, "Your amber eyes, beautiful and fierce, shining with power and magic"
Her voice had a tone of admiration and affection, and I could feel her Allure acting unconsciously, making her even more beautiful.
And I might have great control over my emotions, but having a pretty girl so close to me talk about my eyes like that made me blush.
And looking away I thought about lying again, but with a quick thought I realized that would be useless.
'I doubt she'll believe any lie I said... And I can feel her certainty and conviction' I thought, frowning.
In fact, the reason I didn't want anyone to know that I was the mysterious killer was because that was an identity that I would use whenever I needed to do something considered illegal by the ministry.
But Fleur already knew it was me, and I could feel that she didn't judge me for killing other people, and I knew I could trust her to keep my identity a secret.
And with all these facts I decided that I would no longer hide the truth from her.
And with a sigh I looked back at Fleur, "You're very insistent, you know that?" I said with a small smile on my lips.
"Yes, my parents already told me that, and they say that this is one of my best qualities" she smiled, realizing that she won the battle.
And I shook my head with a wry look, "Maybe they are right"
End.
