“Did you find Dr. Newl?” I ask Phoenix as soon as I get to the holding center. The Confradia’s holding centers are located outside the city in a private area off the beaten path in L.A. The whole area is surrounded by trees and high fences. Our office is located nearby in a corporate building. Most of the Confradia offices are placed in private areas due to the amount of secrecy obscuring the organization. The Confradia’s Security was beefed up a couple of years ago to protect the Confradia staff from external and internal dangers after one of Willem Kazik’s men strolled in and shot one of my assassin’s, my assistant, me, and Jaxon. I wasn’t mortally wounded, but Jaxon was shot in the back and paralyzed. The only reason he walks now is that the Confradia performed experimental surgery on him, and he was able to recover. However, Jaxon almost lost everything because of it.
