When Lin Fang got back to his clinic, he went to the sink to clean his hands again and performed the same routine.
Wash with running water...
Lather with soap...then rub for 20 seconds...
Lin Fang patted his hands dry when he was done before he put on another clean pair of gloves and wore a surgical mask. He brandished his newly cleaned scalpel before approaching the operating table.
He examined the body and was relieved that it was still very fresh. He placed the blade just above the artery veins, about to cut the heart off when he suddenly heard banging noises coming from his door once again.
"Dr. Fang, you have patients. Please unlock the door."
The baritone voice coming from the other side of the door was quite familiar. Lin Fang knew this voice very well since the other party frequently visited him for a checkup or just to annoy him by giving him instructions from the higher-ups.
Lin Fang inhaled deeply. He went to the door and opened it, scalpel at hand, ready to slice open the first human body he sees.
"Ah, you stink. What the hell have you been doing?"
Upon seeing the familiar face, Lin Fang frowned. "Nathan Yang, are you out of your mind? Don't you know that I'm busy? I said not to bother me or I'll slit your throat." He waved his scalpel for emphasis.
"What a foul mouth. And this is coming from a licensed doctor?" Nathan Yang said as he examined Lin Fang's attire. It would seem that the other party was indeed very busy.
"I am here to tell you some good news. We found your sister."
"If you're here to waste my time, go away. I'm not in the best mood." Lin Fang was about to close the door when Nathan Yang stopped him by grabbing his arm.
"Hold on. This time I'm not lying. Your sister is really here."
"Let go. I'm not in the mood for your jokes."
Nathan Yang shook his head. "I do like to annoy you but this time, I'm being serious."
"I doubt it." Lin Fang said in a dry tone. He did not believe Nathan Yang, not one bit and he probably never will. He was already very aversed to soldiers and Nathan Yang being a retired mercenary just made it worse.
"It'll be your loss if you don't believe me. They are still your patients. I brought this group from outside. They just arrived early this morning and are at the registration building. I'll lead them here to get a checkup so my advice is that you get rid of whatever corpse you have in there or at least figure a way to hide it..."
"Does it even matter?"
"Ha. True."
Nathan Yang peeked at the inside of the clinic and could see red feathers all around the floor. There were also some traces of blood as if someone got hurt by something. Due to the low lighting inside, this kind of scene would really make people think that someone had just been murdered though they would be extremely disappointed since all they would find is the dead giant and dissected body of a Scavenger.
Lin Fang was clearly unimpressed by what he said. Still, he did not refuse because it was part of his job to treat a patient when they were injured or sick. From time to time, he would also have a preliminary checkup on people who were new to the base, just to make sure that they were in optimal health and were not carrying any disease.
The military did not want to take any chances so aside from the inspection, a health checkup was also necessary.
"How many this time?"
"Let's see. This group has three boys and three girls. There is also a child. Anyway, they are 'cute' little kids so you don't have to worry about anything."
Lin Fang's face immediately hardened. The last time that Nathan Yang described a patient as someone cute, Lin Fang ended up meeting a hardcore lady who wanted to latch on him for benefits.
When Nathan Yang saw Lin Fang's uncomfortable expression, he felt a sense of accomplishment.
"Right. Now I'll head back so you can have time to prepare. I'll be taking those kids with me so be nice to them, Doctor."
"Get lost." Lin Fang pushed him away and shut the door close.
Once alone, he was quiet for a while leaning his back on the door.
"Annoying." This was the seventh time this month that Nathan Yang came to say the same thing. In the end, the truth simply coerced Lin Fang to feel more withdrawn. Where was his sister? Why keep lying since she's not here?
Was she even alive?
"I am here to tell you some good news. We found your sister."
"I saw someone that looks like you so she's probably your sister."
"Is your sister a high schooler? I think I saw her."
"You and your sister don't look similar at all."
Hearing the same drabble tested his patience because he did not want to feel disappointed again. It also reminded him of his failure since he couldn't even leave the base to search for her. Lin Fang contemplated for a while.
It would seem that he would have to postpone his work once again but then, prolonging would affect the quality of the corpse. It wasn't easy to bring in a live sample and it was just recently killed as well.
It would no longer be 'fresh' if he delayed.
Without a second thought, Lin Fang got back to his work. Those kids could wait...
